anyone else decluttering today?

My house is full of old toys, colouring books, puzzles etc. I'm directing the DCS to clear stuff into bin, recycling, charity shop, bedroom storage, loft etc whilst drinking coffee. Anyone else doing similar?

Not today cus I’ve got family coming over but I’m starting this week to get Rid of SHIT!

Ilovewillow · 01/01/2019 08:40

That's tomorrow's job - I'm hanging onto the Christmas spirit today!

GrumpySausage · 01/01/2019 08:41

Yes!

Taking the tree down too (though it's been down Boxing Day if I'd had my way) and can't wait for the house to feel slightly normal again.

Off tomorrow too with an empty house so blitzing the kids rooms

Jackshouse · 01/01/2019 08:43

I will be doing some next week. We had a major clear out of toys before Christmas and then felt we had the right amount of toys. Now we are drowning again!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/01/2019 08:43

Not today but we've been having a massive clear out and deep clean everyday since 27th. It's been so therapeutic!

Got rid of a black bin bag full of crap from DDs room yesterday, even she was in a chucking out mood!

bookworm14 · 01/01/2019 08:45

Yes - me! We normally leave the tree up until 12th night but I’m taking it down today as it’s all dried out and shedding needles everywhere. Can’t wait to get the space back. I’ll also be decluttering some toys and books to make way for all DD’s Christmas presents!

Mominatrix · 01/01/2019 08:46

Tradition in my house is that decluttering is done on Dec 30-31st so that I can start the New Year fresh.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2019 08:50

We did a toy cull the other night when he DC were in bed. We'd done one before Christmas but it wasn't enough as we were too sentimental, so we were ruthless! I bought some new storage from Argos and will be rearranging the dining room when the tree is down later on.

It feels quite difficult with small children to keep on top of it sometimes!

I decluttered my airing cupboard last night, got rid of 1 pink blanket, about 6 character facecloths, a discoloured looking tea towel,
5 (!!!) sets of children's character duvets that are now too young, ( barbie, lego friends, shopkins, trolls x 2), a pink fleecy fitted sheet that doesn't match anything.
Now in my car boot ready for charity shop.
I wouldn't mind, but I definitely decluttered the airing cupboard within the last year, and these things missed the cull last time.
Today I will hopefully take the Christmas decorations down, and will declutter any Christmas bits that I didn't bring down from the loft this year, as I obviously won't use them.

Dothehappydance · 01/01/2019 09:04

Having one here too, a big box filled already and more to come.

In the New Year DH can empty his boxes from our move 6months ago.

ListenLinda · 01/01/2019 09:13

I really wish I was. Home alone with the toddler whirlwind today and no sooner have I tidied something and she has pulled it back out.

Me and DH have the same week off in January and this house is getting blitzed and staying that way so there isn’t so much crap around when we have a newborn in the next few months.

lucysmam · 01/01/2019 09:34

I've been working my way through each room since last Wednesday.

Taken a bag of junk and a bag of recycling from dd1's room (black bag sized), a bag for life of junk and one of rubbish from dd2's, and a bag full of packaging for recycling from mine so far!

I'm going to take the tree down and deep clean the living room today, then have a look at the contents of my shelf unit (a lot of it is "might be useful" stuff for my Rainbows/Guides that hasn't actually been used or copies of things I have saved on my flash drive so can probably go.

lucysmam · 01/01/2019 09:35

I forgot; we took a small bag of outgrown clothes from dd2's wardrobe too - they're currently folded on my bedroom floor so need to be elsewhere.

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 01/01/2019 10:12

We're driving home from DM's today, but tomorrow is the start of Operation Bedroom Redecoration.
We've hired a van to go to Ikea on Saturday so it needs to be done before then

Acerbics · 01/01/2019 13:20

I mentally kicked two people out of my life, does that count?

Other than that I will take the decs down today and then tackle the kitchen tomorrow.

SassitudeandSparkle · 01/01/2019 13:28

That sounds like top decluttering to me Acerbics!

January will be a month of decluttering for me, I get enthused at the start of the year. It's actually getting it out of the house that is my problem, I have bags hanging around already from a pre-Christmas sort through my DD's wardrobe Blush

BogstandardBelle · 01/01/2019 13:34

I wish I could! We are staying at my parents for the holidays... they have a 4 bed house for the two of them and every cupboard is rammed with “stuff”! In our room there are 2 wardrobes, two bedside units, and a 7 drawer unit. They are all full except maybe 2 of the drawers: towels, old clothes, spare wine glasses, books, toys and crafty stuff for children long grown up, booze, empty boxes, bags / hats etc that are never used... it drives me nuts that we can’t even put our stuff away!

And my mum wants to build an extension... when what she actually needs to do is get rid of 90% of the clutter!

Rant over. Enjoy yr Kondo-ing one and all!

notsurewhatshappening · 01/01/2019 13:35

We've been non stop since 8 am.
2 green wheelie bins full of recycling
Tree gone
Decorations packed up ready for loft
Bathroom and kitchen cleaned
4 x loads of washing put away
Hoovered house
Rearranged furniture ready for delivery of new chair tomorrow
Toys put away and rearranged
2 x black sacks for charity in my car

Now for a rest then baking cupcakes later!

Hope your decluttering is going well!

Wow! Well done OP!

I picked up rubbish at the bus stop today, while waiting for my daughter, does that count?

Sigh81 · 01/01/2019 13:42

Yes, me! Pile for ebay is ready, plus pile for charity shop.

I tried doing the Marie Kondo "does it spark joy" thing to my clothes but sadly the vast majority of them do... am decluttering elsewhere where I can!

madcatladyforever · 01/01/2019 13:44

Not with this hangover - off back to bed.

Hippywannabe · 01/01/2019 13:45

I normally do a big declutter on the 2nd but have been staying with DS and DDIL since a couple of days after DGS was born 2 weeks ago and don't go home till Sunday. DH with ASD has refused to take down the decs and put away while I am away as he can't cope with the idea. However, as he has uncomplainingly spent quite a bit of time on his own , I shall suck it up.

Idontmeanto · 01/01/2019 13:48

Sort of, but being pressured to play minion monopoly with ds.

AdoraBell · 01/01/2019 13:48

I have a mental list of what crapulous items are going to the charity shop. I think the decorations will left in situ for another day, or two. I don’t want to crush the DD’s Christmas spirit, but I am so fecking glad to see the back of 2018 that I could happily put all the cards, decorations, tree etc in the bin.

Moominfan · 01/01/2019 13:48

I've dusted and stuck a load in. Feeling pretty smug
