anyone else decluttering today?

My house is full of old toys, colouring books, puzzles etc. I'm directing the DCS to clear stuff into bin, recycling, charity shop, bedroom storage, loft etc whilst drinking coffee. Anyone else doing similar?

Even decluttering since Friday, I love it! Office, clothes, Crap Corner, bathroom, kids’ room all done. Putting off doing the utility room. Going to do food and mug/glasses cupboards this afternoon.

We've taken the Christmas stuff down and have started to clear some of the other things into boxes. We're going to slowly pack up the house because we're moving (again) in March. We did already declutter and bin a lot of stuff when we moved countries last year.

Dothehappydance · 01/01/2019 14:03

Going well here. Massive box full of things to go. Overall it isn't too bad as a lot got cleared before or just after the move in June, but this is a load of stuff that came with us and has either never had a home or hasn't been touched in the 6months.

DD (ASD) has a habit of chucking things around, we are trying to reduce what he has available.

Great work everyone!

Cupcakes have been baked- now cooling
Kitchen sink cleaned
Dusting done

Still need to clean windows
Take down a pair of curtains, wah and rehang
Do accounts and tax return
Sort out frames for photos
Put dates on new calendar
Chivvy kids to finish thank you cards

Feeling a bit tired now though. Going to ice some cupcakes 🍦

It looks like everyone's doing well!

Decorations and tree away; sofa covers washed, dried, and put back, living room deep cleaned here.

Didn't get to my shelf unit yet, I got distracted by half a packet of hob-nobs I had stashed Blush. It'll probably wait until tomorrow now tbh.

I did hoover & tidy my room though - the amount of dust that goes up the hoover is shocking to say I only hoovered on Sunday when we finished putting dd2's new stuff away.

Ten more minutes peace, then I'll put the oven on for roasties.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2019 16:25

Our trees are down and all of the decorations put away. The cards are in the recycling and the downstairs has been Dysoned. I did a bit of dusting too.

The furniture is put back to normal in the lounge (it looks huge now!) and I've slightly rearranged the toy storage in the dining room so we can get into a cupboard and drawers without moving stuff first.

The Christmas blankets are dry and put away, as are the cushions. I've put away the rest of the washing too (or those bits which didn't need airing / finishing drying on the airer).

I feel like I've made progress anyway. It's nice to have it done before I go back to work!

Btw Marie kondo is now on Netflix!

Vinorosso74 · 01/01/2019 16:47

I've decluttered some of the food by eating it. Does that count?

INeedAWittyNameChange · 01/01/2019 17:04

I took my tree down on Friday night because I was meant to be getting a new tv unit delivered on Saturday. Needless to say the unit still hasn't turned up as it's useless Yodel who are meant to be delivering it.
I'm off for the whole of next week and plan to gut the whole house - will be spending a lot of time at the charity shop and the dump!

AdoraBell · 01/01/2019 18:21

Absolutely does Vinorosso 😁

I’ve sorted empty boxes I had used to corral presents prior to wrapping, all flattened and ready to go out. The kitchen cupboards were done before Christmas but the surfaces are shockingly cluttered. I will clear that tomorrow, may make a start tonight.

Giggage · 01/01/2019 18:36

Me.

I've started with the fridge and will move to a cupboard tomorrow after work. I need to clean them all badly. DD is cleaning a drawer and the microwave while I'm at work.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2019 19:06

We decluttered by getting rid of our microwave recently as we mainly heated milk in it, so it wasn't a worthwhile use of space! I partially filled it with a KitchenAid, but that's a much better use of the bit of space it takes up. 😁

UsernameTaken76 · 01/01/2019 19:15

Yep we have eBay, charity shop and pin piles in the spare room. It’s nice to put new items away and at the same time I’m catching up with the dusting!

AdoraBell · 02/01/2019 13:52

Fridge halve cleared out and cleaned, we need to go out for errands so will finished it later.

Paper/card etc moved to the recycling bin outside.

Laundry started.

This place is beginning to look my house again Xmas Grin

DontCallMeCharlotte · 02/01/2019 14:04

Yes - me! We normally leave the tree up until 12th night but I’m taking it down today as it’s all dried out and shedding needles everywhere.

I took mine down yesterday as well. Even keeping it watered hasn't helped. They've been a bit crap this year haven't they? Have decided to give in and go fake next year Sad

Was kind of glad to get the living room back to normal though.

lucysmam · 02/01/2019 14:56

I'm 3/4 of the way through my shelf unit and under the fish tank. 9yo dd2 is having a ball shredding paperwork Grin

I feel a bit bad chucking some stuff, even though activities we've done at Rainbows and Guides are on my memory stick, it seems wasteful to chuck paper copies even though we're not likely to re-visit them for a few years at least.

I've condensed my craft boxes though - one is full of various pens, another beads and buttons, and another a variety of glues/ribbons/stamps. Box of assorted notebooks is full to bursting - I acquired a lot of unused exercise books from dd1's room last week.

MUST NOT BUY PENS OR NOTEBOOKS FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE!!!

ButteryParsnips · 02/01/2019 15:14

If you use a fake tree for at least 6 years then it's more environmentally friendly than getting a real tree, apparently.

Started a bit of decluttering in the worst area of my kitchen yesterday - have promised myself I will do 15 minutes somewhere in the house every day. Not so dynamic as some of you here but it's a start!

lucysmam · 02/01/2019 15:33

Shredding done, under fish tank done. Small pile of stuff to file with my Rainbows & Guides file when I have an hour or so at admin/planning tomorrow. Folders back on shelf unit & I have a whole empty shelf.

Do need a better way to store new programme activity cards though; they're leaning at a funny angle in the file they're currently in & one of the corners is bending slightly.

I also have an empty 15L storage box for the first time in ages - am going to chuck all the paints and glue under the sink in there for the moment I think.

user1494055864 · 02/01/2019 15:52

Dh dropped my black sack of bedding from the airing cupboard to charity shop today. I've since filled 3 more big Sainsbury's bags with unwanted books, tealight holders and all the Christmas decorations I didn't use or need this year, so I will need to drop them off when I go back to work tomorrow.
Before Christmas I filled my car boot about 5 times with unwanted toys and miscellaneous items to the charity shop, so my loft is looking so much more organised now, with seasonal decorations in clear plastic boxes and items like sleeping bags and airbeds, although I think I might donate the 2 kids sleeping bags, as they probably need adults ones now.

BrassicaBabe · 02/01/2019 16:04

Hmm, I've watched 3 episodes of Marie Kondo on Netflix if that counts Hmm
