Are all your 17 year olds out tonight?

DD feels like she's the only one stuck at home with nothing to do. Some of her friends are away on holiday, others are 18 and going to the pub for the first time on NYE. Others who aren't 18 have fake ID and are getting into the pubs …. think she feels a bit sad and left out.

DH suggested she tries to get in anyway but it's highly unlikely on a night like tonight ….although she's only a couple of weeks away from 18. Not sure she's a pub type anyway to be honest. I think she'd like a mate to go for a meal with and just hang out tonight.

Me and DH are going out with another couple for drinks/meal and I've said she's very welcome to join us but she said that makes her look like a sad loser, as they're teens are out.

Hard being a teen, particularly now with social media.

My 17yo dd isn't going out tonight. She's ordering in a pizza, and will be watching Black Mirror on Netflix.

marmiteloversunite · 31/12/2018 18:48

My 19yr old is in with a hacking cough and cold. She did have lots of nights out at the end of last term at uni though.

Cocolepew · 31/12/2018 18:52

17 yr old DD is at her boyfriends, they aren't going out.
21 yr old DD is sitting upstairs ready to watch her new Spiderman dvd.

mum11970 · 31/12/2018 18:54

My 18 year old is out but she’s only just turned 18, and a few of her friends are still 17. She was out last year as well.

Miljah · 31/12/2018 18:56

Nope.

My 17 year old DS doesn't have any close enough RL friends to go out with! He doesn't seem that bothered; and he's also seen his DB, also not one for close friends, go to uni and make some friends.

NYE can be very overrated.

Older DS1 was going with a local friend 1 and a 1/4 hrs' drive away to 'game' with a couple of 18 year old lads he doesn't really know, but it transpires his friend's younger DB (17) would therefore be on his own at home overnight as the parents are away; so DS1 is going over to his mate's for the night instead. Tho I do feel a bit sorry for the lads 1 and a 1/4 hours away who were looking forward to tonight!

ladygracie · 31/12/2018 18:57

My now 18 year old was out last year but at a friend’s work event so age wasn’t an issue. She won’t be the only one but it does feel rubbish for her I’m sure.

weaselwords · 31/12/2018 18:58

My just 17 year old is grounded for rolling in an hour late at 1.30 earlier this week, drunk as a lord. How this one is ever going to survive to adulthood, is beyond me Xmas Angry

homegrownmumma · 31/12/2018 19:00

This is the first time I've been out for nye and I'm 26 , Only going out for a meal
With the husband but it counts 😂

Badbadbunny · 31/12/2018 19:00

No, my 17 year old son is in playing FIFA, (like he does every evening and all weekend!).

PantTwizzler · 31/12/2018 19:03

18 yo is out. 16 yo is with us (we’re getting together with another family with similar aged dc). Meal and games. Lowkey.

yogafailure · 31/12/2018 19:08

Mine is just away to her friends house but there will be parents plus other adults there too. My DD isn't a party animal/drinker anyway so I'm not worried.

I'm more concerned about 19 yo DS1 who is meeting up with mates and has headed off with a bottle of vodka under one arm and a bottle of JD under the other 🙈 He's been drinking 3 times since he turned 18 so he's not really a hardened drinker either

jenthehen · 31/12/2018 19:09

My 17 year old ds will be out with us. Earlier in the week he was feeling a bit lonely. He doesn’t have a girlfriend at the moment and his friends haven’t started going out in the pubs. He has been to a couple of parties over the summer but that’s it. I really feel for them. At his age I was always out, there were lots of discos etc and the underage thing wasn’t really an issue. With a bit or research I’ve found out that not many this age are going out on a regular basis :(

Empra123 · 31/12/2018 19:28

No my two 17 year olds are in this evening. One has a hacking cough and is autistic so probably wouldn't go out anyway. So far as I know the other one hasn't considered going out either. I've got friends coming over so the children will have dinner with us

Cleebope2 · 31/12/2018 19:35

Yes my dad nearly 17 and her mates are all out clubbing with fake IDs like they do most weekends. One of her crowd isn’t going as her mum is stricter than the rest of us. One of the dads is a taxi driver and will be Looking after them wherever they end up so that puts my mind at rest on NYE.

LucilleBluth · 31/12/2018 19:37

My 17yo DS has a friend over having take away and beer. 14 yo DS is walking around the house in his dressing gown like Hugh Hefner and I'm watching Trolls again with 7yo DD. It's a very exciting evening....not.

weegiemum · 31/12/2018 20:07

My 18yo dd1 is working tonight (bar job).
15yo dd2 our at a friends house.

Almost 17 year old ds is at home with me. Dh is also working.

There's nothing on tv and he's just declared it the "worst night of the year if you're under 18",

He got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas so I think I'll challenge him to some Mariokart and crack open the beer.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/12/2018 20:21

18 year old at home. I’ve turned down invitations because I don’t want him being home alone at New Year’s Eve. Very happy to be at ho W though.

PhannyMcNee · 31/12/2018 20:23

Mine is home with us watching shit telly and eating cooked frozen party food. Most of her mates are 18 and are off into town.

DragginBallsEEEE · 31/12/2018 20:25

Nope DS17 will be with us playing xbox with DS2 and DP while I drink wine and pretend they're entertaining. He has no interest in alcohol (he has ASD) so this is perfect to him.

triptrapdollydumpling · 31/12/2018 20:39

Mine is working tonight wishing she was 18!

pallisers · 31/12/2018 20:43

17 and 18 year olds are in tonight - hanging with their younger cousins probably.

22 year old has gone over to his friend's house. Same as he does every weekend he is home.

Shockers · 31/12/2018 20:45

20 yr old DD is watching Les Mis with one dog, in the sitting room. I’m listening to the radio in the kitchen with the other dog.

We had an Italian takeaway and we have fizzy stuff (non alcoholic) and popcorn to make later.

We’re both happy and will be out with the dogs in the morning.

DS, 18 has gone out with friends to the nearby (small) city.

My guess is that he will not be as lively, or happy as we are tomorrow WinkGrin

LoafEater · 31/12/2018 20:47

My DS17 is in his bedroom playing xbox. He never leaves the house. I feel really sad for him but he doesn’t seem bothered. He says he hasn’t heard from any of his friends, but he hasn’t made any effort to get in touch with them either. He seems to be pals with a lot of quiet boys.

The Ds14 is downstairs with 5 of his friends, crisps, Fanta and DVD’s and they are all here until 1am.

Me and DH at a neighbours party for a few hours.

I really with ds17 had a social life.

VioletCharlotte · 31/12/2018 20:54

My 17 year old DS has great plans to go to a party in London with a crowd of mates. This now isn't happening so a few of them are going round to a friends who lives round the corner. So nothing very exciting. He's a summer birthday too, with lots of friends who are already 18.
