Hard working royals?

There are as an article today explaining the split of public engagements members of the Royal Family have done this year. Prince Charles made 507 engagements compared to Prince William’s 220 (while Meghan and Kate did just 183 between them, but Kate was pregnant and Meghan is new).

What do you think? Waste of taxpayers money? Or are they earning their keep?

Someone criticised Charles when actually he puts a decent shift in.Hmm

Easylay

Meanwhile Meghan is probably still smoking dope

She was gifting it in little lace bags at her last wedding. Dear me.

Even if it were true economically, I always think the tourism argument is really really weird. Let’s keep this British family in enormous wealth and privilege, and let’s make every other British person subordinate to them, and let’s make the British people pay for their existence, so that some foreign people might come and visit in the hopes of seeing them? How is that in any way a rational argument for choosing your system of governance?

Also a lot of things encourage tourism. Literature from Jane Austen to Harry Potter. Museums and art gallerires. The countryside and the beaches. I would rather the tax money went towards the museums and countryside conservation, as I and the rest of the public at least get to enjoy those, unlike Kate and Wills new kitchen.

Weightsandmeasures · 03/01/2019 01:55

Easylay, do you suppose that Meghan is the only one who would have smoked dope in the Royal Family? You suppose Kate and William never smoked dope? Andrew, etc, etc?

They reflect what much of the middle class subjects are doing. Drinking and smoking dope.

headstone · 03/01/2019 19:27

I can’t imagine Wills and Kate ever smoking dope.

TwitToWoo · 03/01/2019 19:41

Smoking a bit of dope is one thing. Going to a country where it’s illegal, buying enough for 100 people then handing it out unsoliciated as a gift is something else altogether. It’a deeply, deeply irresponsible to put guests at risk of arrest like that.

I hope she doesn’t have the nerve to use a drug charity to further her “saving the world one photo op at a time” pretentions.

Worriedmummybekind · 03/01/2019 19:45

Public engagements must be hugely hugely draining. Being constantly on show. Imagine if you are a teacher having a videoed lesson observation for that number of days in a year.

I think they work hard, personally.

Weightsandmeasures · 03/01/2019 20:56

You can imagine Meghan smoking dope but you know for a fact that Kate and William have never and would never indulge or pay for their friends to indulge.

Nice white people do not do such things and can't possibly be imagined to do such things.

Time will tell.

Everything is Kate vs Meghan - white woman vs black woman. Give it a rest.

I'm very glad that people are so anti-Meghan. That will make Meghan and Harry's marriage even stronger. He will be even more protective of her. The Royal Family including the Queen is clearly supportive of her and they will continue to be because they must be ashamed of the behaviour of their subjects towards Meghan because they can suss out the reason why. Even Harry had to issue a statement calling out the press on the racist undertones that were coming across. Do you think the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family aren't aware? They must be appalled.

I'm glad that they are not wasting their time to respond to all these made up stories. It's driving some people mad.

LOL. Have you ever heard of Prince Philip?

headstone · 03/01/2019 21:22

Harry thinks a nazi costume is suitable fancy dress so I personally don’t need any morality lecture from him.

Weightsandmeasures · 03/01/2019 22:09

Yes, I've heard of Prince Philip. Fact is the Queen's actions (giving Royal duties, showing endorsement in terms of giving Harry & Meghan prominence in various things) show that the alleged rumours are just that. Malicious rumours.

If you are implying that Prince Philip is racist, I'm struggling to comprehend why you sound so gleeful about that. Is that a quality you endorse? Regardless of his views, Meghan is now part of the Royal Family. They understand very well why some people are frothing at the mouth and why the criticise Meghan mercilessly for behaviours that others in the Royal Family also display and why they make up stories about what she thinks, her motives, etc.

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 03/01/2019 22:14

I'm just lolling at the idea of the RF being a bastion of forward-thinking liberalism.

SusanWalker · 03/01/2019 23:32

This isn't a Meghan bashing thread though is it. It's a thread about the place of the royal family in our society. And I have a feeling the RF might quite like the rumours as it keeps them in the papers and the public eye. We are all talking about whether two grown women like each other or not rather than the taxpayers money being spent on them.

Imagine if we had an elected president and we were expected to provide for her or his extended family. There would be an uproar.
