Am I pathetic for staying in on NYE??

I am 35, single and most of my friends and family are married with children. I don't have a huge number of friends and most of them are staying in with their children/partners and I haven received any invites to anything so I will be in on my own on NYE. I don't particularly like NYE and suffer with anxiety so don't really mind being in and not having the hassle of going out but when people have asked me what I'm doing the reaction I get makes me feel like a complete loser and look at me pityingly. It makes me feel pressured to have super exciting plans and like I must be really boring because I haven't.

Am I pathetic? Is anyone else in a similar boat? Have you planned how you'll spend it?

xx

Christ no I couldn't be arsed with it Pre kids but did always and found it an over priced anti climax of nothingness

I'll be in bed well before midnight

NOTthepinkranger · 30/12/2018 20:04

I’m staying in I cannot stand NYE - I’m 28 and single

Can't believe I forgot about the loo queue and having somewhere to sit Smile

Petalflowers · 30/12/2018 20:06

Staying in as well, with a takeaway and whatever is on tv

Dh is poorly so no exciting NYE in for us.

TigsytheTiger · 30/12/2018 20:06

Also staying in on my own unless DD decides not to go to her party and then she'll join me. I've no desire to go out but also feel the pressure to not look sad and have party plans.

DickTurpinsHat · 30/12/2018 20:07

We never go out on nye, couldn't think of anything worse.
We're going to go toM&S and get something nice for dinner and then crack on with finishing the chocolates whilst watching the tv.

gamerchick · 30/12/2018 20:07

Nowt wrong with stopping in. The husband will go to bed early as usual and me and my 11 yr old have Xbox plans with munchies.

Mummyshark2018 · 30/12/2018 20:11

You're not pathetic. I love going out /partying/ socialising normal but I don't like NYE anymore. I can't be bothered after Xmas. Past few years dh and I have put dc to bed and I've made a nice meal- fillet steak with the trimmings and Prosecco! Most years we've been in bed before midnight 😂

Millie2013 · 30/12/2018 20:13

I’m not a huge fan of NYE. We’ll be going to bed early with wine and all the cheese. I’ve done lots of NYE clubbing and partying and I much prefer being at home in my PJs!

Pibplob · 30/12/2018 20:13

Think 2019 is going to be a tough year with a family illness happening now and some other things. So I’m def not up for celebrating what looks like a tough year ahead. 😢

tinesltitties · 30/12/2018 20:14

I haven't been out at new year since the millennium Grin

Livingthedream12345 · 30/12/2018 20:15

Totally can't be arsed with NYE and haven't for years..going to get to bed well before midnight! Another bit of quality me time.
My aunt looked horrified the other day when she found out I'd decided to spend Christmas Day on my own...best sit down I've had in ages!

NashvilleQueen · 30/12/2018 20:17

Staying in alone. Have an invitation to a house party which I’ve been up before and is nice. But this year I just want to get some nice food from Waitrose and sit in my pyjamas with my dog and watch some tv. I’ll be in bed before midnight and up bright and early on new year’s day. No hangover. No expense. Happy with my own company.

Billballbaggins · 30/12/2018 20:19

Staying in is the best NYE! Even before I had children I’d stay in with my parents or my housemates when I had a house share - we would just relax with a glass of wine, do our own thing then come together for the bells at midnight then trot off to our beds Grin even in my free and single days I never saw the appeal of going out or doing much of anything for NYE. Too expensive or busy out anywhere, house parties just seemed annoying after a busy Christmas. Enjoy your relaxing and peaceful NYE! I’m not a fan of it anyway, it’s quite depressing I feel.

Escapenextyear · 30/12/2018 20:19

I stay in on NYE. I have a small number of friends and they all have plans/parties to go to.
I hear about all these parties and it can feel depressing not having these 'exciting' plans, but at the same time, i'd rather not go to any anyway!
It's the dreaded FOMO but in all honesty, NYE is overrated and i'd much rather treat it like a normal winter's night - stay in, a couple of gins, some nice food and a few guilty pleasures on the box.
Your aren't alone!

Badcat666 · 30/12/2018 20:21

Staying in is awesome on NYE!

You can wear what you want, your feet won't hurt and you get unlimited access to your own loo so you aren't in the cold with your legs crossed dying for a pee.

I need to pop out after work for cat food tomorrow (might get them some tuna for NYE celebration noms) and might pick up some nibbles to have or order a curry in. Then it's cups of lovely tea and a shit load of baileys and channel flicking. Seriously looking forward to it!

bettyblueeyes83 · 30/12/2018 20:22

I'm exactly the same age/circumstances as you OP, and I totally know what you mean about people's reactions and compulsion to have super-exciting plans. It's the same with my birthday which is just before Christmas so very hard to get people with partners/families together, but friends are also horrified if I say I'm just staying in on my own on the day! Even worse, they try and suggest things for me to do or give half-hearted invites so I feel like a right sad sack. To be honest, although I am sociable and do go out a lot, I love my flat and like my own company. So really it's the not the staying in so much as the pitying reactions that make me feel bad and like I have to cast around for somewhere to go! I have always hated NYE and just thought 'fuck it' this year. I'll go up to my mum's and have a very quiet one where I can ignore the fact it's NYE, except for maybe drinking some prosecco! It's just another evening after all and the next day we will be the ones who have spent a fortune/got terrible hangovers! Happy 2019 to you!

BalthazarImpresario · 30/12/2018 20:22

I never go anywhere because I hate new years and hate the prices of everything... And that's what I tell people, I nod off on the sofa, wake up to watch the fireworks then go to bed.

InternetRandomer · 30/12/2018 20:23

I’ve not been out for nye since the millennium either @tinesltitties. I was 22 then and didn’t enjoy it much.

Now I prefer to get woken up at midnight by fireworks and tut with dh Grin

BeardedMum · 30/12/2018 20:24

I am staying in and NYE hardly registers with me. My teens are staying in too and I don’t know many who goes out not even my single friends.

bettyblueeyes83 · 30/12/2018 20:24

Haven't spent a fortune, I mean!

BitchQueen90 · 30/12/2018 20:30

I have a DS but he's 5 and will be in bed by 8. I'm single, I had DS young and all my friends are still at the going out and partying stage so I won't have any company.

I'm gonna get some nice cheese and have a glass of fizz. Watch some crap on the TV. I do exactly the same every year, have done since DS was born. I always see in the new year alone.

Notsogoodhousekeeping · 30/12/2018 20:30

Not pathetic at all! I’m in a similar position and am taking myself off to a spa hotel for a couple of nights. I had an invitation to the pub with friends but one of them always gets hammered and I cannot deal with the same boring cyclical conversation with her. Also I want to start the new year feeling fresh and relaxed, not hungover and miserable!

So enjoy yourself and do whatever you fancy!

Notquiteagandt · 30/12/2018 20:30

Im heavily pregnant and single. Ill be staying in alone. Im far to achy and uncomfy to do anything but.

I doubt I will still be awake at the bells. But I am planning on making a nice dinner and a long bath.

I am not bothered to be honnest. The thought of socialising is anixity inducing.

Plus I begrudge paying to get in somewhere when come 9 ill be more than ready for bed.
