OK, help me plan my NYE

MaureenMLove · 30/12/2018 18:52

For one reason or another, I will be alone on NYE. I don't have to be alone, but due to unfortunate events in my world recently, my DH of 28 years is not here.

I have decided, it's probably better for all my friends, if I don't socialise with them. It'll only be a sob fest at midnight and no one likes a misery guts!

DD and the boyf are hosting a party at his, so it's all about me. It's highly unlikely I'll make it to midnight tbh, but what shall I do?

I need food, drink and entertainment. Not asking much, am I?!

Go! Grin

I'd order my fave take away, drink my fave wine and get very pissed, play music, watch the fireworks at midnight, cry and then bed.

This is my standard NYE by the way, and DP is used to it Grin

Crunchymum · 30/12/2018 19:00

Sorry to hear you won't be with your husband. I can almost guarantee that come NYE 2019, you'll be in a very different place.

Time makes a lot of difference!!

Youcancallmeval · 30/12/2018 19:01

I am alone on NYE every other year. I buy champagne and whatever food I fancy. I get into my pjs, watch a good film or 2. I prefer to start early and finish early, so I'm in bed well before 12 and turn my phone off so I don't get the crap chain things. It's your party, so you can cry if you want to, but you don't have to, it's just another evening!

Choose what you want for dinner, what you want to watch on tv and buy yourself nice wine, books and magazines or whatever you enjoy and do things that are just for you. Nice bath, chocolates etc.

Oddcat · 30/12/2018 19:06

I’m on my own nye too , I plan to eat my own body weight in sausage rolls , pringles and chocolate.

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 30/12/2018 19:10

I'm having a pre NYE tonight like this OP. DS went with his father to visit his DFs girlfriend for a week so after a busy Christmas I'm alone.

I'm binge watching my Netflix list with a Thai red prawn curry in my jammies and I'll be hoovering up the twiglets and Christmas chocolate later.

I've a blanket and pillows, so I'm snuggled up and occasionally dozing off.

Check if your takeaway delivers tomorrow evening, or pop out early in the morning to get your fave ready meal or nibbles.

Take a nice bath or shower late afternoon and then just make a sofa nest with everything around you.

And stay away from Jools Holland and his bloody Hootenanny. 😂

MaureenMLove · 30/12/2018 19:10

A magazine? A real life magazine and not an online imposter! Grin That, is a great idea. I haven't bought a magazine for ages! I got some nice bath stuff for Christmas, so that'll do nicely. I'm thinking, do the sheets tomorrow and best pjs, bubbles in the bath and a glass, music and a magazine. Good start.

Now, what to eat. I've got steak for tea tonight, so that's out. I might have smoked salmon of some sort.

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 30/12/2018 19:12

Smoked salmon sliced thinly on pumpernickel with a spread of horseradish cream cheese is delish.

You could make up a lovely plate of canapés for yourself. Or a plate of seafood. Yummy.

MaureenMLove · 30/12/2018 19:13

I haven't watched NYE telly since DD was a baby, so that's at least 20 odd years, so I don't know what happens!

I assume we've got the usual soap operas trying to make us all feel better about our own lives?Grin

OP posts:
MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 30/12/2018 19:16

Don't know about Soaps as I haven't watched for years. Enforced fake party fun is what I try to avoid.

Do you have Netflix?

MaureenMLove · 30/12/2018 19:19

I don't, but DD does, so I'm sure she won't be needing it.

Firstty · 30/12/2018 19:20

A great TV series to binge watch to take your mind off things! And wine, crisps and dip.

TipseyTorvey · 30/12/2018 19:23

I'm in a very different place to you with young DC hanging off me so night to myself sounds lovely. I'd be tempted to get a lovely piece of stationery and plan the evening half hour by half hour with the following; bubble bath with amazing stuff in it, face mask and massage, mini pedicure (prosecco all the while ). Taken away kit (spice tailor type) that takes seconds. Two or three magazines e.g Red, hello and chat trash. The Most Comfy PJs ever. Movie I've been dying to watch for months, then TV fireworks for midnight and a list of all the good things that I'll aim for in 2019. Alas my evening will be nothing like this but hope you have an amazing relaxing and affirmative evening!

MaureenMLove · 30/12/2018 19:24

My body is yearning for fresh green stuff at the moment. I'm not sure I could do any more shit food, but I will push on through for just one more night! Grin

ILiveInSalemsLot · 30/12/2018 19:24

Go out in the day though. Can you meet anyone for lunch? Or go somewhere nice?
Then just chill with food, drink and good tv in the evening.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 30/12/2018 19:25

Eat fresh green stuff for lunch Smile

Calzone · 30/12/2018 19:26

Start a good box set in bed.....

MaureenMLove · 30/12/2018 19:30

Thank you Tipsey.Smile. It's all a pile of shit really, but keeping going is the only option and keep going we will. I hope your evening treats you well.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 30/12/2018 19:30

A nice long soak using your new bath stuff, cosy pjs and some wine/Prosecco with a little cheese board and some olives, nuts etc. Borrow dds Netflix password if you can and choose something to watch. Phone off, curtains pulled, enjoy!

MaureenMLove · 30/12/2018 19:45

My wonderful boss has provided far more than that prosecco stuff!Grin. I have a reasonably priced French champagne, port and a cheeseboard. God love him, he knows me well and also knows my current personal circumstances.

He even text me on Christmas Day. He never text me, but he knew. I was so touched. Think I might switch the phone off tomorrow though.

OP posts:
MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 30/12/2018 19:48

What sort of things do you like watching? Perhaps we can give recommendations.

Last year I binge watched The Crown on a day between Christmas and NYE.

MaureenMLove · 30/12/2018 19:56

I'm not a great tv watcher tbh, I usually fall asleep. I'm not keen on period dramas. I watch the 3 part drama type things on BBC. That memorable I can't remember any of them!

My complete guilty secret recently, has been to watch all 6 seasons of Dawson's Creek again on 4od! Blush. But to be honest, most of the time it's noise in the background, whilst I surf tinternet and crochet! (I suddenly got old!)

OP posts:
brizzledrizzle · 31/12/2018 03:53

Yy to jools bland, (that's an auto correct and I'm leaving it in!), why is he on every sodding year?

MaureenMLove · 31/12/2018 17:46

Right, so I have bubbles for the bath, bubbles for the glass, OK and Hello magazine, smoked salmon and other bits from M&S, a face mask, foot spa, new socks, knickers and pjs and a couple of scratch cards to change my luck for midnight! I think I'm set! I will surf the TV. I don't think I'll settle on a box set. I watch non Xmas/new year stuff.

I'm gagging to get going, but I think DD is popping back for something in a bit, so I'll wait.

I'm not the first and won't be the last in this situation and having just spoken to a couple of friends, I dare say I'm not the only one of my bunch to be suffering. One friend has just text from the hospital, where her FIL is very, very poorly. Her DH has had a row with his brother and stormed out and so has the mum. It's all very highly charged there.

Another friend fell over 2 days before Christmas and broke her hip. She was in hospital for Xmas and just home now, but can't be moved from her bed.

Life will go on...
