Anyone else flu/cold thing?

thegrumpallo · 29/12/2018 17:37

Have been mostly confined to my bed since Boxing Day. Feels like a cold that has morphed into flu... is that possible? Should be ok to be sick at the moment but for some reason am feeling the pressure of bored kids (13,11,8). Plus there's actually loads to do...
Actually I did manage to do drag myself around the shops earlier with bored kids... but came home and collapsed back in bed...🙄I'm now also panicking that I might have something more sinister than flu/ or a cold gone mad...I've a mild fever, currently slight nausea, stuffy nose, cough and generally can't really do much.
Ugh... anyone else?

Yes, I have it too, generously passed on to me by my husband. He spent 3 days in bed and just about made it up for Christmas Day. I’ve had 2 days in bed so far and can easily see another day in bed awaits. A week on and my husband is still coughing lots. It’s miserable.

thegrumpallo · 29/12/2018 17:59

Miserable indeed! I have definitely slept enough... are you sleeping ok? I woke up wide awake at 4am today... still sick though! Really weird.

Yes, I have this. It started as a runny nose on Christmas Eve and had turned into a cold on Christmas Day. I was saying earlier that I hadn't had anything like this for years. Unlike a cold that takes its course, this has a life of its own, with a different symptom each day. So far, headache, sore throat, full feeling in head, feel weak and wake up in the middle of the night for no reason.

AnnaMariaDreams · 29/12/2018 19:19

I had it and it took 10 days to feel vaguely human, I had a full week in bed.
Hope you all feel better

FiveNightsAtMummys · 29/12/2018 19:40

I started with a cough just over a week ago that then turned into a cold and a cough. Then i started wheezing, feels like its in my throat and windpipe. Started tl feel like i was slighly improving but then yesterday had a bad head ache and my throat was really irritated and coughed lots. Hardly slept for coughing. Today my cold feels worse, I'm deaf almost and my head feels full and I'm achy and have a headache again. Oh and this bloody cough irritating my throat still.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 29/12/2018 19:42

My 11 year old has this. Feel so sorry for her.

Veterinari · 29/12/2018 19:43

I had this too. 3 days in bed and lots of quiet sofa time. 10 days later i’n Almost well

Adversecamber22 · 29/12/2018 19:45

I spent almost a week in bed, could barely eat, everything hurt, was delirious at one point. It took a month to recover, only just feeling ok now.

I think you have an incredibly nasty cold, my flu hit me like a freight train, have only had it twice in my life. Have had a few bad colds like the one you describe, you feel bad but unless your unlucky enough to get a secondary chest infection it should be all over more quickly than flu.

Get well soon.

thegrumpallo · 30/12/2018 09:04

Ah day4. Sinus infection- yay! 😫 Really hope the sick ones on here are feeling better today?
Thanks for well wishes. 10 days! 😩

I think the brain fog is lifting - decongestants and painkillers and i might even feel human today! That's only taken 5 days!

saltymofo · 30/12/2018 09:10

My DH and 2 DCs have all had or got this. Its been going on since the beginning of December. DS was vomiting with his, DD has an ear infection and DH turned into tonsillitis. I'm fine still!!

carrie74 · 30/12/2018 09:28

Yup, also since Boxing Day. Woke up with a slightly tickly throat, went for a short stroll after lunch where I started crying. Went straight home to bed, and haven't really managed to get out of bed since. Fever only lasted 24 hours or so, but I'm just so lethargic, and my nose won't stop streaming and I can't stop sneezing. Waiting for the cough to properly take hold, my chest is already aching a bit, presumably from the strain (but I'm also on high alert for chest infections, as I used to be particularly susceptible to them). Assuming it's a really vile cold rather than flu.

I just want to get out of bed, DH (and children) have been fantastic, but I'd like to do something with them. DH off to watch some game or other today, so just me and the kids. We were supposed to be meeting some friends for a walk and a bite to eat, but I've had to bin that off. Feeling like I'll be heading back to work on Wednesday as a walking husk.

thegrumpallo · 30/12/2018 09:42

Carrie- exactly the same here. I'd love to do stuff with DH and the kids but really have no energy.
saltymofo all three mine are now also in various stages with it- variously pale, coughing, sneezing etc; but furiously denying they're ill ! DD2 vomited xmas eve, and we nearly postponed hosting xmas day.
Ah well. ''Tis the season! Xmas Smile

Yes me and dh have both had it, about 10 days to start feeling better 🙄

thegrumpallo · 30/12/2018 09:44

Badadadum: onwards & upwards! Glad you're feeling better🙌🏾

DobbinsVeil · 30/12/2018 09:59

Yes, we've had it here. DH started with it a week ago, I started feeling a bit off Christmas Eve, Christmas Day was one to forget! 3/4 DC started with it on Boxing Day with DS4 avoiding it but coming down with a sickness bug instead(!). DS2 has lost his voice, DS3 keeps coughing himself sick. I'm mostly o.k. now, though cough is irritating as have pulled muscles. On the plus side, the fridge is still nice and full!

Lolly49 · 30/12/2018 10:01

Yes started at the end of November and just seemed to get worse each day.
Ended up with a nasty sinus infection and had to have antibiotics for the first time in about fifteen years.
Ears still popping now and a slight cough it is truly horrid.

thegrumpallo · 30/12/2018 10:12

O no lolly! I think I'm going to wash out sinuses religiously ... possibly a vain effort to try to avoid ABs...

I’ve been ill for a month. Fainted a couple of times and actually ended up in hospital a few days ago. I’ve not been this unwell in years, but apparently it is viral despite it having turned into tonsillitis twice!

Lolly49 · 30/12/2018 10:52

CeeCee you poor thing I hope you improve soon.Flowers

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 30/12/2018 10:56

Yep, it is a tenacious bastard. DH is on day 15, i’m on day 10, DD is on day 9. We’re still waking up with blocked noses and frogs in our throats. Utterly disgusting.

AuditAngel · 30/12/2018 11:04

DD1 and I had it for about 5 weeks each. DH has now started it. A couple of days ago he got the wheeze and tried to convince me he needed to go to hospital.

DS also has it, but not as bad as dd1

AngelOfDeathNix · 30/12/2018 12:02

Yes! You all have my full sympathy, I've had something for nearly three weeks now. Spent the first few days trying to fight it and continue as normal before collapsing into a heap in bed for five days. I've been feeling too crap to go anywhere for the last week, today I am venturing out cautiously with the family. Doesn't help that the medications have left me feeling dizzy and spaced out. Hope you all feel better soon.

romany4 · 30/12/2018 12:07

My mum and 2 brothers have it. Had it since Christmas Eve and just aren't getting better.
They're down South tho so don't know if it's a regional thing.
