Do you ever have a night where you are unable to sleep for no obvious reason?

I never do but I did last night. I have no idea why. Other than it being quite windy outside but I’ve had that before and slept as normal. Last night I just could not sleep. And then I got very angry because I couldn’t sleep. Which I think kept me awake. I finally dozed off after 8:30 this morning and woke at 11.

I've slept really badly since Christmas. Too much sugary food and drink I think.

LBOCS2 · 29/12/2018 14:09

Yep. Probably about one a month. And unsettled nights more frequently than that. It just is what it is, I've been having them forever - but I will also say that I am generally a rubbish sleeper!

SoyDora · 29/12/2018 14:10

At least 3 a week, and have done since the age of 6.

Oh that could be it blair! I’ve been massively overdoing it on the chocolate front.

I am a rubbish sleeper. Got earbuds for xmas rather than wired ones. I put on something I know well have seen before on netflix and listen to it until I drop off. I think being anxious about it makes things worse.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 29/12/2018 14:12

soy! Sad how are you coping with such little sleep?

OP posts:
brizzledrizzle · 29/12/2018 14:12

yes, frequently - I am tired, go to bed and then can't sleep.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 29/12/2018 14:13

My head is pounding today and I feel constantly dizzy. How are you coping with this all the time??

OP posts:
SoyDora · 29/12/2018 14:13

I’m just used to it to be honest. I can’t remember ever feeling not tired! It’s crap.

Bluesheep8 · 29/12/2018 14:21

Happens to me regularly, but with me I go to sleep with no problem and wake up around 3am unable to get back to sleep. I suspect it's to do with alcohol and anxiety in my case.

madmum5811 · 29/12/2018 14:26

If by 1am I am not asleep I get up have a glass of milk and a slice of bread. That does help. Alcohol is a no no in the evening unless taken early, so I do not bother.

picklemebaubles · 29/12/2018 14:30

I'm struggling to sleep because I'm too hot. You need to let your body temp drop sharply to sleep. Try a hot shower. The resulting chill is supposed to be effective.

comeagainforbigfudge · 29/12/2018 14:30

I had a terrible sleep last night. Partly the wind, partly hyper aware of DD who has been awake lots through the night recently but obviously slept all night last night.

Plus i have a cold coming on, so blocked nose. So tired now

ILoveMaxiBondi · 29/12/2018 14:31

I don’t drink alcohol either other than maybe a couple of times a year if I go out. Haven’t had any over Christmas.

I Always sleep with the window open but I actually closed it last night around 5am as the wind picked up and things were blowing around outside making noise.

What was reported and why?

Jjacobb · 29/12/2018 15:20

I have always suffered from terrible insomnia, I just can't switch off. I've tried every remedy going but nothing works. Im frequently still wide awake when dh gets up at 6.30. Luckily I work from home so can rest during the day. I also find it impossible to nap during the day no matter how little sleep I've had the previous night.
However I always sleep like a log on Christmas Day night. Dh says it's because the big day is over and I'm not thinking about things I need to do. He's probably right so I just need every day to be Christmas Day

rightreckoner · 29/12/2018 15:23

Yes about once a month. I’m experimenting with HRT (helping with sleep generally) and with folic acid (recent test says I’m deficient and it can cause insomnia apparently). And yes to cutting down sugar.

Awrite · 29/12/2018 15:23

Just prior to my period or during my period. I used to get angry but have decided to get zen about it and read.

Branleuse · 29/12/2018 15:48

yeah often, im a terrible sleeper

WhatTheFuckRichard · 29/12/2018 16:07

I average about 30 hours of sleep a week.
I genuinely do not know how I function.
Sometimes I have half an hour one night and 2 hours the next.
The most I have slept in the past 7 years is 5 hours.
For me a good nights sleep is 4 hours. And if I have 4 hours sleep on Monday night I can guarantee I won't sleep again until Wednesday night.

Insomnia is absolutely horrific.

Juanbablo · 29/12/2018 16:09

Yes, all the time.

MissWilmottsGhost · 29/12/2018 16:13
