A Chinese family friend has given several of us the following. Are they auspicious tokens? Christmas tree decorations?

No idea but following as I really want to know now!

ScreamingBadSanta · 29/12/2018 13:35

Bookmarks?

BrylcreamBeret · 29/12/2018 13:37

Couldn't tell you but they're pretty! What is the one on the far right?

I think they look like bookmarks too

The one on the right is a feather

Jackshouse · 29/12/2018 13:40

I would say bookmarks too.

Ohjustboreoff · 29/12/2018 13:41

My first thought was Feng Shui and the four corners of a room. Don't ask me why.

adaline · 29/12/2018 13:46

Bookmarks.

hmmwhatatodo · 29/12/2018 13:49

I want to say bookmarks too but something tells me they aren’t. Are any of you brave enough to ask? Are sets of bookmarks a thing in China?

ISawSassyKissingSantaClaus · 29/12/2018 13:50

Yes bookmarks...these aren't dissimilar online...

I think bookmarks too

brizzledrizzle · 29/12/2018 13:54

I also think bookmarks.

Superpooper · 29/12/2018 13:54

They’re beautiful!

DarlingNikita · 29/12/2018 13:56

They're lovely but I've no idea what they are. Can you ask the friend? for all of Mumsnet

LEELULUMPKIN · 29/12/2018 13:57

I'd love this as a gift, whatever it is! I would deffo use as bookmarks!

IzzyGee · 29/12/2018 14:00

Having done a bit of gooogling on the topic of bookmarks I think that is what we have. Once I’ ve whatsapped my thanks to the giver I hopefully will be able to return to MN to confirm.

Thank you MN.....and a guid new year to you all!

Bookmarks are definitely a 'thing' in China this year. I have received them from 2 clients as parting gifts at the end of visits.
Your bookmarks are very much in the same style, but with a lovely gift box. Your friends must like you OP.

MarinaMarinara · 29/12/2018 14:12

Really pretty! If they are bookmarks that’s lovely and a nice idea.

ClaudiaWankleman · 29/12/2018 14:16

Really bizarrely, the name in Chinese is actually a medication. 威凡。

Reaa · 29/12/2018 14:18

I would assume they are a gift from the pharmaceutical company to employees.

diddl · 29/12/2018 14:23

Oh good grief!

I'm now on ebay looking at metal bookmarks.

I mean-you can never have too many bookmarks-right??!!

RedForShort · 29/12/2018 14:26

Trolly tokens.

You'll so you'll look fancy in the supermarket.

SirVixofVixHall · 29/12/2018 14:28

I think they might be to put on your glass when at a party ? But i suppose they could be bookmarks.

Superpooper · 29/12/2018 14:29

I noticed the drug thing too but didn’t want to say! If they are a drug company gift they’re the nicest I’ve seen!

SD1978 · 29/12/2018 14:40

I'd say drug rep freebies, then passed out as presents because they looked nice.
