Has anybody taken down there Christmas tree already? I want to take mine down as sick of having no room now but don't know

It's absolutely ridiculous and miserable. Christmas is actually you know 25th December and continues until 6th January. No wonder kids in this day and age are so greedy and selfish when they are taught Christmas is over as son the as the presents are opened

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/12/2018 11:30

We normally do the full 'first Sunday of Advent to 6th January' stint with the Christmas tree but this year have had kittens using it as a climbing frame so it's already down :-(.

Didima · 29/12/2018 11:39

But why is it ridiculous and miserable to do something that affects no one but the people in that house and those people prefer to do Confused.

Yes trees coming down early is the cause of children being greedy and selfish HmmConfusedGrin

Way to go to teach your kids it’s all over when the presents are unwrapped.

I think the PP who said it’s a class thing is absolutely right. Not necessarily a working/ middle class thing but class/ no class.

fleshmarketclose · 29/12/2018 11:41

Our's is coming down later today, went up on 15th, two weeks is about my limit and I like it cleared away for New Year.

BlackCatSleeping · 29/12/2018 11:42

Well, for most people Christmas is all over once the presents have been unwrapped.

I also don't get why people are getting so het up about this. It's a bit bonkers.

Godotsarrived · 29/12/2018 11:42

All my decorations and tree came down & were packed away yesterday. They didn't go up until 18th but I hate them up after Christmas. Big deep clean done as well, just about to do the run to the rubbish tip. I like it all to be clean clear and tidy for Jan 1.

Morgan12 · 29/12/2018 11:44

Not yet but will be down for new year. I put them up first weekend in December because I like them down earlier.

Ineedtonamechangenow · 29/12/2018 11:45

Mine came down yesterday. I feel a Christmas tree looks sad after Christmas day.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 29/12/2018 11:46

Didma it just promotes the attitude that it's all about the gifts and trimmings. It's a real shame

Giggage · 29/12/2018 11:47

Mine came down a couple of days ago as I'm back at work and uni so won't have the energy to do it otherwise.

I like to have the house cleaned and clear for the new year.

They only went up about the 17th December or something like that.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 29/12/2018 11:48

Christmas isn't all over when the presents are opened here.
That's just the start. The time together playing board games going on walks, spending time playing with the gifts the kids have been given, eating the food you buy for the festive period
People have it all the wrong way round now- the minute November comes people declare its Christmas and when the festive season starts they declare 'its all over'

Celebelly · 29/12/2018 11:49

Ours is coming down today. We usually leave it a bit longer, but I'm eight months pregnant and we have various sorting to do before the baby is here so would rather get it down and cleared while I've still got the energy to help out. Especially with hoovering up all the pine needles! 🙈

Grin @ all the class/miserable posts. Personally I think posting shite aimed at making people bad is far more miserable and classless than taking a tree down on Dec 28th... but you guys do you!

Crimbobimbo · 29/12/2018 11:49

Our tree went up early as we had an early December party and it's looking rather sad and wilted now so I might take it down and sweep the oddles of needles up. I'm LM class and my DH is UM and he's more keen than me to take it down. Xmas Wink

Didima · 29/12/2018 11:49

think the PP who said it’s a class thing is absolutely right. Not necessarily a working/ middle class thing but class/ no class.

I'm really feeling the Christmas vibes of good will and kindness shining through your post 🎄 Xmas Wink pure class!

WreckTangled · 29/12/2018 11:53

Ours went up on the 16th and I've just taken it down. We have a tiny house and a real tree.

We're now going to my grandparents for another day of Christmas and tomorrow going to the IL's for another roast and gift giving. Hopefully a walk around the harbour too. Hardly showing our dc that Christmas is over as soon as the gifts have been done Hmm

umpteennamechanges · 29/12/2018 11:54

Yep...I put them up early but as soon as Boxing Day is done I get well into (early) spring cleaning and NY resolutions mode!

ApolloandDaphne · 29/12/2018 11:56

Mine came down on the 27th because we flew out on holiday on the 28th. I am currently on a sun lounger reading a book. It is bliss.

Kelsoooo · 29/12/2018 12:00

Mine went up mid December and will be down tomorrow I think.

Nothing to do with class in this house.

I have mental health issues, which have an effect on my house keeping. I either clean excessively because I'm stressed/in the middle of a low, clean excessively because I'm in the middle of a high, get triggered into a low because the house has been disorderly for too long/get stressed because things aren't quite where I left them/would usually be.

I have two uni assignments due in the end of the first week of January.

I return to work on the second of January.

My au pair arrives the second of January.

DH returns to work the third of January.

New year's Day we're taking part in a charity event and seeing family fifty miles from home.

So yes, removing my decorations before the sixth of January makes me classless and my children selfish and greedy.

Or alternatively, it's a time management issue, and a self care issue.

It's a damn sight more classless to throw absurd statements at people without considering anything outside of your own normal. You utter bellend.

HarissaPaste · 29/12/2018 12:01

Ah the New Year deep clean. Best of luck with that.

Rockbird · 29/12/2018 12:01

Ours is coming down tonight although my many strings of fairy lights are staying up. We put it up in the middle of December so not especially early but the kittens are all over it and it's in the way of the TV Wink

Lavender00 · 29/12/2018 12:02

Mine is down as of today. Just hoovering up the million needles that the bastard dropped on its way out Confused

HarissaPaste · 29/12/2018 12:03

There’s a stealth boast thread on here somewhere if you want to list all the reasons your tree has to come down as soon possible

HolyMountain · 29/12/2018 12:04

Kelsoo if you want to take your tree down , do it.

You don’t need to explain your reasons why to random mnetters.

Celebelly · 29/12/2018 12:07

The only reason that matters is: because I want to.

Who honestly gives a shiny shite when other people take down their decorations?! Much less feel so incensed about decisions that have nothing to do with you that you have to write utter bobbins on a thread about it multiple times?

Funny that some of the people here who are banging on about the meaning of Christmas being lost seem to have zero Christmas spirit or kindness about them... you might want to go back to basics and learn how to be a pleasant human being before worrying about when decorations come down! Talk about miserable...
