Has anybody taken down there Christmas tree already? I want to take mine down as sick of having no room now but don't know

Wow bellend! And you dare to call others out! You're not the only one with mental health issues but the fact remains Christmas is at Christmas time

FloofyDoof · 29/12/2018 12:15

Mine is coming down tomorrow. Both DC have been working over Christmas, so it feels like just a normal day. We'll have a nice dinner together tomorrow, as we're all home for the day, and play a few board games and do some of the stuff that we've not had much opportunity to do over Christmas, then they will help with packing up the tree. Sons birthday just after New year too, and I like to try and keep it separate from Christmas.

reindeermania · 29/12/2018 12:18

I will keep mine up til twelfth night. These are the twelve days of Christmas, and having the luck to have the festive period off work- having worked right up to Christmas eve, I will continue to feast and celebrate. My house is never warmer nor happier than when there are Christmas lights twinkling and candles flickering.
I am of the camp that it starts with the presents, and continues with 12 days enjoying of family, of feasts, of fun and merriment. The longer I can draw out the celebration through the winter the better.

I dont judge anyone their choices, though it does feel that those that take down their decorations, sneer at those that don't and those that keep them up sneer at those that don't Confused which is a division I can't understand at all.

When did taking down decorations before New Year start? It was unheard of when I was a kid but then so was putting them up at the beginning of December.

KiteMarked · 29/12/2018 12:22

We have a family birthday shortly after Christmas and we've always taken down the decorations before the birthday to have a visual break between the two celebrations.

We tend to put the decorations up the first or second weekend in December.

Having said that, I still have the front door decorated, because I love how it looks. Xmas Grin (no bows!) The door is red, which looks fab with Christmas decorations. I'll keep that up until 12th night.

If we didn't have a birthday to consider, I would probably decorate on Christmas Eve and leave them all up until 12th night. Makes January much more enjoyable imo!

LucheroTena · 29/12/2018 12:25

It’s still Christmas until 12th night. I can’t believe there are people on here taking them down on 25th. I put ours up mid Dec. January is a bleak month, nice to keep the lights going a bit longer, no?

Hezz · 29/12/2018 12:32

I'm waaaay too superstitious to take them down before twelfth night.

Can't be doing with bad luck, so we keep them up. Well classy, me.

MiddlingMum · 29/12/2018 12:32

Peace and love everyone. It doesn't matter when you take them down.

I'll admit to being a real hypocrite here. Ours are coming down tomorrow for several reasons. However, I'll still enjoy seeing other people's lights when I'm out running in the evenings.

BlackCatSleeping · 29/12/2018 12:35

I really didn’t see anyone sneering because others leave their decorations up longer. 🤷‍♀️

It doesn’t bother me what others do, but I don’t think it’s disgusting or tacky to take decorations down before new year.

I knew someone who never got around to taking their decorations down until around March.

ifoundthebread · 29/12/2018 12:36

Mine came down boxing day and still trying to organise the chaos left behind 😒

Crikeyblimey · 29/12/2018 12:37

Nothing at all to do with class ffs!! Saying that is, if anything, showing poor class and certainly no Christmas spirit!!

I put our tree up fairly late and become fully Christmassy on Christmas Eve. We do ‘full on’ Christmas. Yes gifts but also abundance of food / guests / family / fun and reflection.

The fact that my birthday is between Christmas and new year may cloud my ‘it’s not Christmas anymore’ view.

I very much revel in the new year / clean house / clean start so tree comes down New Year’s Eve.

Each to their won and all that.

JoyceDivision · 29/12/2018 12:39

Haha at class / no class and teaching kids to be greedy Grin

Tookine down today as travelling to see family tomorrow and back new year, and I love new year, fresh start, clean pared back house to help promote this.

My dc love this new year new start theme. And they're not greedy / materialistic / whatever.

Nice to see the Christmas spirit and kindness and goodwill to all shining through from the snippy posts from people who don't,t take their decs down til after new year Grin and are in no way affected by strangers taking their decs down now.

bluetit101 · 29/12/2018 12:43

Mine are coming down over the next couple of days. I get depressed once it's all over and don't like to drag it on any longer

stargirl1701 · 29/12/2018 12:44

I cannot imagine celebrating Hogmanay with no tree. Ours went up on the last Sun of Advent and will come down on Twelfth Night.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 29/12/2018 12:49

Joyce my comment was about those saying as soon as the Christmas Day is over Christmas is finished
If that's not just celebrating the materialistic elements then what is?

Nicknamesalltaken · 29/12/2018 12:49

Mine will be coming down New Years Day.

I love Christmas, but loathe new year. So I feel the best thing to do is throw open the windows, have a good clean and freshen everything up. Back to work on the 2nd so no time after that, getting DCs back into some sort of routine.

But in the meantime, I am enjoying it all. It’s still very much Christmas here.

bruce43mydog · 29/12/2018 12:53

We have taken it down early in the past

But we are doing the full 12 days here 🎄

I am always sad when it's another year over

Parker231 · 29/12/2018 12:58

For us Christmas is over after Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We’ve had the parties, presents, good food and drinks and lots of family time. We’re not religious so don’t follow advert, 12th night etc. Christmas means different things to different people but it’s over now and we’ve been back at work for two days. So now to look forward to New Year celebrations.

70sbaubles · 29/12/2018 13:06

Or alternatively, it's a time management issue, and a self care issue
People must have huge trees and loads of decs to be taking them down for time and clean reasons. My house is perfectly clean and the tree is in the bay window.

Mh reason aside I think the feel of the house being more relaxed is lovely for kids over the Christmas break. Theres the rest of the year to be bare and clean and tidy.
Agree that its those taken in by the materialism who generally take it down the minute presents are open. 'Clutter' and santa sacks still dotted around are part of it imo. Taking the tree down xmas night or boxing day is horrible for the kids imo

dalmatianmad · 29/12/2018 13:17

Mine goes up on the 20th and comes down on the 27th. I love Christmas but hate all the faff and the expectations.

BlackCatSleeping · 29/12/2018 13:48

But for some people the house feels more relaxed when the Christmas stuff is packed away. We do so much before Christmas, days out, making stuff, school concerts, movies. It’s all very lovely and fun, but it’s nice just to finish and have a little bit of non-Christmas time before new year.

The kids play with their new toys, we go for walks, make nice food, etc. but without the Christmas excitement it just more chilled out.

Crunchymum · 29/12/2018 13:51

Ours will come down 1st of Jan (or 2nd depending on hangovers) but as usual it's looking rather pathetic and threadbare and I am tempted to throw the fucker out of the window, everytime I look at it!!

We go real every year and no matter what tree we get, how much we spend and how late we put it up, by NYE it always looks shit.

LeafCutterAnt · 29/12/2018 13:55

I'll leave them up til 12th night. My neighbours put theirs up about 2 weeks before xmas and leave up til 12th night. I was earliest to put up as put mine up Dec 1st

PetuliaBlavatsky · 29/12/2018 13:56

Ours will stay up past new year, but usually take down on 2/3 Jan. I love having the decorations out, it looks so cosy and festive. Our tree is not dropping yet, we put it up 2 weeks ago.

romany4 · 29/12/2018 14:09

Mine goes up on 1st December and comes down on 12th night.
I love Christmas and hate the bare room afterwards
