To wonder about the ‘rift’ and Harry and wills

And the ‘rift’ not being between Kate and Meghan at all. I’m not a royalist at all, however quite like both Kate and Meghan (actually really like Meghan and thinks she doing a great job) and wonder whether the ‘rift’ is actually between wills and Harry caused by William reportly having said that Meghan wasn’t suitable, and Harry thinking wtf dB who are you to tell me what to do and just because you are my big brother you don’t get to tell me what to do, we’re not kids anymore,
And Harry stepping out from William shadow, developing his own interests, and confidence and wills not being that keen.

I don’t personally like the word “thick” but when referring to the royals, if the cap fits Wink.

noodlenosefraggle · 28/12/2018 21:09

I read somewhere that the Royal Family are the nations pets, and I think that's an accurate description. They don't really serve a purpose apart from to sit around and give us some entertainment and in return we keep them in the lap of luxury as all good pet owners should Grin

Charles and Camilla both live pretty much on their own.

Do they not live together?

No Charles and Camilla don't live together. Neither does the Queen and Philip P.

VladmirsPoutine · 29/12/2018 16:18

Really bertielab? How odd, I can understand sleeping in a separate bed from your spouse but I'd find it most odd if my husband lived in a different house. That said, I suppose the Royals don't live like us mere mortals.

I don't have any opinion on the royal family either way, but I think William and Harry have represented themselves, the country and the royal family quite well over the years. Had I been born a prince or a princess I'd be spending my days sitting on my gilded gold-leaf throne drinking fine wine and eating cupcakes, not shaking hands with you lot!

Superpooper · 29/12/2018 17:47

I knew the queen and Phillip don’t, they’re not even in the same city anymore. Didn’t realise cammilla and Charles don’t - where does she/he live?

dementedma · 29/12/2018 18:33

just responding to earlier post about Royals controlling the media when it suits them, the media blackout around Prince Harry in the army wasn't just to protect him, but the men and women who served with him. He was a high value prize either dead or alive, and those who served with him were quite literally, in the line of fire. it was in everyone's best interest that the media didn't report on him. And i know many people who served with him and all without exception say he was one of the guys, no airs and graces, did a good job.

ButteryParsnips · 29/12/2018 18:54

I'd heard that Camilla spends most of her time at her own house from before her marriage - Ray something? - and has her children and grandchildren come there, while Charles does his own thing at Highgrove.

Didn't realise about the Queen and Philip though. So all the things said about how she'll be lost without him after his death - presumably not so much if they are effectively living apart?

WipsGlitter · 29/12/2018 19:34

Well I think after such a long marriage that she'll still be pretty gutted! I think once he retired from public life he lives in a house at Windsor and Her Maj pops in to see him.

Superpooper · 29/12/2018 20:01

Yeah, Phillip has been living in Sandringham at wood farm since he retired. I think it’s where prince John lived back in the 1910s.

I thought camilla just kept her house for visiting her grandkids etc because she has “private” time with hers and Charles with his?

brizzledrizzle · 29/12/2018 20:40

Yeah, Phillip has been living in Sandringham at wood farm since he retired.

I can't say I blame him, Buckingham Palace is hardly very homely - it's probably like living above the shop.

Togaandsandals · 29/12/2018 21:17

I have no views on Megan (does she spell with an h?) Markle A’s don’t know the woman. However, I thought she was a really weak actress in Suits.

iVampire · 29/12/2018 21:37

I thought that Prince Philip was in rather poor health, hence more time in the other residences (where the Queen is often with him). It was rather s surprise big to see hi. On the balcony for 109th at the Cenotaph (I know he’s retired, but I really thought he!d do that one).

I think Palace leaks have consistently said that he and the Queen have interconnecting suites. rather than one bedroom. But I thought they were usually together.

Now that Harry is married, he can’t be her walker, so would it be Andrew?

brizzledrizzle · 29/12/2018 22:42

It's usual for the upper classes to have their own bedrooms isn't it?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 30/12/2018 00:21

Yes I think it is.

My parents have their own bedrooms & sitting rooms as do lots of people that we know their age late70s/early80’s.

Superpooper · 30/12/2018 00:40

Phil’s health can’t be that bad - he had a hip replacement in May.

IcedPurple · 30/12/2018 10:32

I'd imagine that quite a few elderly couples would love to have seperate bedrooms - or even seperate residences - if they could afford it and all the staff to drive them around and make life comfortable for them.

brizzledrizzle · 30/12/2018 11:24

Phil’s health can’t be that bad - he had a hip replacement in May.

May was a long time ago, especially at his age.

My parents have their own bedrooms & sitting rooms as do lots of people that we know their age late70s/early80’s.

That is my idea of bliss. I'm single (happily) and love having my own bed and bedroom. I love sharing the sitting room with my 3 DCs though.

MissEliza · 30/12/2018 21:52

I do think talk of a rift between Meghan and Kate is rubbish, simply because I think they're 'players' who've climbed socially by learning to get along with people. However, that video on Christmas Day did make me wonder if it's really William who has the problem. He doesn't seem to want to look Meghan in the eye and Kate seems to hurry over to stand between them, perhaps to smooth things over. I'm aware that's total speculation. Harry looked glum as well.

KateandWills · 30/12/2018 21:53

I have nothing to add other than to come on and gloat that KATEANDWILLS was still available as a username and I got it Grin

As you were

extremelymaturecheese · 30/12/2018 22:04

There I was thinking all the royal related names had already been snaffled.

Well-played KateandWills Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 30/12/2018 22:10

Only the Daily Mail says there’s a Rift.
