No.I practically never add salt to my food. I don't care what others do though.

AnnaMagnani · 25/12/2018 14:53

No. I only add salt to food at the table if it's been made so dreadfully that it needs it to be palatable.

We don't keep salt/pepper cellars on the table at home.

WeeBeasties · 25/12/2018 14:54

No I think it's a really rude thing to do.

NotSureYet · 25/12/2018 14:54

Only on freshly cooked tortilla chips.

thebaronetofcockburn · 25/12/2018 14:55

If I cooked it myself I don't because I know it will have enough. If not I'll taste it and usually add salt. Pepper, too.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 25/12/2018 14:55

This thread had made me think of one breakfast time in a Premier Inn where I saw a woman salt her husband's fry-up breakfast for him whilst he went to get a coffee from the machine.

Why would you do that to someone else's food?!

Heratnumber7 · 25/12/2018 14:55

Yes. I'm Welsh - we like our salt.
Nothing is ever salty enough this side of the Severn, not even butter.

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2018 14:57

No, never.

The only exception to this rule is eggs.

LittleKitty1985 · 25/12/2018 14:59

I read somewhere that this is a good measure of how "self monitoring" someone is: a person who monitors and edits their behaviour a lot will usually taste food before salting it

Titsywoo · 25/12/2018 14:59

I've never really seen the point in adding salt to food. All tastes good to me without it. My mum never added salt to food either so maybe it's just what you are used to.

fatbrows · 25/12/2018 15:00

Oh I thought you meant when cooking lol

CortisolandCaffeine · 25/12/2018 15:01

Yup. I have a massive salt appetite.

WhoWants2Know · 25/12/2018 15:02

Nope. Low salt diet, so I need as little as possible.

Nothisispatrick · 25/12/2018 15:03

I like salt. I’ve never eaten anything that someone has made for me that I couldn’t add more salt too. I add salt to my own food. People have different tastes, I can’t see how it’s rude.

Kimtag · 25/12/2018 15:04

I thought it was a class thing. My parents never taste before adding salt, they eat as soon as the plate is in front of them also, they don't wait until everyone is ready. Meat is never rested, everything is overcooked, everything is plated up and soaked in gravy, you are never asked your preferences. There is never a napkin (serviette as they refer to them) and never a starter.

Jsmith99 · 25/12/2018 15:05

As others have said, chips are the only food I would ever add salt to without tasting first. I always grind lots of pepper over eggs, though.

tralalalaaa · 25/12/2018 15:07

No, my dad has high blood pressure so we didn’t even have salt in our house to a to anything! I’ve grown up never having it so done the same in my household too. I like it but understand how unhealthy it is to add salt to meals that are most likely already containing a lot.

AlexanderHamilton · 25/12/2018 15:09

Dh is on a low salt diet so we even have lo salt stock cubes.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/12/2018 15:09

Only on chips, followed by vinegar.

I use very little salt in anything.

Brazenhussy0 · 25/12/2018 15:09

What, is this a thing? No of course I don't. Extra salt is very rarely ever needed! (Pepper is a different story though if the food is prepared bland without proper seasoning.)

PavlovianLunge · 25/12/2018 15:09

Generally no, with a few exceptions... if DP serves vegetables and says he didn’t put any salt in the cooking water, I’ll put a little salt on.

Raw tomatoes, chips and fried eggs will usually get a sprinkle of salt and black pepper even before tasting.

I would never add salt to anything served to me by a friend or in a restaurant before tasting it. That would feel very rude.

lavalampoon · 25/12/2018 15:10

Yes if it's something like chips and I can see it doesn't have any salt on already

PavlovianLunge · 25/12/2018 15:11

Maybe he had high blood pressure and a lot of life insurance.

TheFaerieQueene · 25/12/2018 15:12

No. It is foolish too.

purplecorkheart · 25/12/2018 15:14

No, my mother would have murdered us if we did that when we were kids and the habit has stuck with me. I always taste my food.
