Does anyone else find it annoying someone that always leaves some food on the plate?

Even if they serve themselves out they always leave something on the plate. I know their choice and everything, but to me it is a bit annoying leaving this food to be binned every meal. If you add it up over the year it's probably several weeks work of meals and at a time where so many need food banks.

I do, it's a leftover tic from my eating disorder, I can't clear a plate. You really don't know why people do stuff.

Ifailed · 25/12/2018 11:19

many people are bought up to do this to show they are full up and have enjoyed the meal.

donajimena · 25/12/2018 11:20

I hate wasting food but I wouldn't force myself to clear a plate. That being said it does wind me up at buffets when people pile a plate high and leave loads. Take a little and go back if you want more.

I am not overeating to avoid offending people
I stop eating when I am full

nickiredcar · 25/12/2018 11:24

Sure it's better than overeating, is just a tad annoying to see food wasted when he's served himself and I don't really waste any in my house. I know I'm probably being unreasonable and it's some sort of disorder, but he's still quite overweight so maybe it's part of a bigger issue?

All veggie scraps get frozen for stock and all that.

And I'm not talking about one meal, it's every single meal of course you shouldn't eat if you are full

I stop eating when I am full, I won't over eat to be "polite" so most of the time there will be food left on my plate (less so if I serve myself of course) I personally think it's a healthy trait?

We used to keep chickens so nothing ever got wasted. It does now. I miss those chickens.

FortyFacedFuckers · 25/12/2018 11:30

My 13 year old DS does this and always has done, no matter what he eats he leaves a bit, dinner, sweets, crisps he always has to leave a bit, if I was to give him 4 slices of pizza he would eat 3 3/4 but if I only gave him 2 he would eat 1 3/4 Confused

selkiesolstice · 25/12/2018 11:31

Wow!? really.

I can rarely finish a big christmas lunch. and then there's the pressure to eat desserts and puddings as well. I hate the feeling of being too full.

madcatladyforever · 25/12/2018 11:34

if we all stopped eating when we were full we wouldn't be such a grossly obese country.
I'm more concerned about the huge rise in diabetes and other obesity related illnesses that cost the NHS a fortune than a small amount of wasted food.

AnotherPidgey · 25/12/2018 11:35

I rarely have a completely cleared plate, and I'm not going to make myself uncomfortable for the sake of a couple of mouthfuls or a bit of crust etc. It would be as wasted permanently stored on me as it is in the bin.

Loading up your plate with far more than you can feasibly eat is annoying and unfair to others, but it's not always possible to gauge the right amount exactly.

Santasonmynaughtylist · 25/12/2018 11:35

If they are leaving it because they are full, I don't mind.

If they are leaving food because of some crazy tradition then I'd be annoyed.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/12/2018 11:35

So, put less on your plate then. It isn't rocket science Hmm
I hate being overfaced by a huge plateful, so I don't put so much on.

nickiredcar · 25/12/2018 11:36

This isn't about one Christmas dinner, it's every single dinner.

That's a good idea with the chickens though!

Ds (16) always leaves just a little, like one mouthful on his plate. It annoys me as I think he just can't be bothered to gather it all up. Annoying for me as I am the one who has to gather it up and put it in my mouth the dog's bowl. Not left on my plate. I lick it since I started weightwatchers Grin

FlibbertyGiblets · 25/12/2018 11:41

Oi at them. Oi, don't take so much next time.
O at them if you're from Barry.

Dothehappydance · 25/12/2018 11:44

I do this. I hadn't really noticed until my sister picked up on it, saying I always left a pea or something. We decided it probably goes back to me being forced to finish everything on my plate. A sub conscious decision to that allows me to control when I finish.

Of all my food hang ups that one is probably the one that is the smallest issue.

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/12/2018 13:53

I really don't mean this is passive aggressively as I think it sounds written down but I find it less annoying than the people who endlessly police other people's eating habits tbh. Just live and let live- they don't even need to provide a 'reason', although there are several valid ones, including disordered eating, feeling full quickly due to medical conditions, or just personal preference.
Unless your own life is 100% economical in all other ways including the packaging waste from that food etc (which is basically near on impossible) then I think it's neither here nor there when it comes to citing waste as the issue.
Do not most councils collect food waste these days to recycle? I've moved a couple of times in the last few years and both authorities provide a small food waste bin to chuck any leftovers in, they're great- we obviously try to use up/freeze wherever possible but whatever's left goes on the food recycling.
As an aside, recently learned that washing and seasoning the peeled potato skins (when/if you peel them) and cooking those, are a great snack!

madcatladyforever · 25/12/2018 13:56

I live in the country so no food is ever wasted, all uneaten food goes out for the foxes and the gulls and it's gone overnight.

Sakura7 · 25/12/2018 14:00

What a strange thing to get worked up about. Would you rather people force fed themselves?

MaidenMotherCrone · 25/12/2018 14:07

DH leaves a little bit of everything like a tiny meal. It took some getting used to I admit.
It’s for the dog Grin
I eat everything because I grew up very poor and didn’t get enough to eat. I’ve been mocked in the past (not by DH). Luckily my DCs (adult) don’t have any issues and eat as much or little as they like and it’s never commented on or thought about really.
DH really lives that dog and I think it’s sweet.
