Everyone else is wearing Christmas pyjamas!!

Just been looking at Facebook and it is full of Christmas Eve photos of my Facebook friends and their families - every single family grouping is wearing matching Christmas pyjamas.

My family do not have matching Christmas pyjamas. Or any Christmas pyjamas. I did not even consider buying a family set of Christmas pyjamas when I walked past the displays in the shops.
(I did buy the DC new pyjamas for Christmas, but they’re non-Christmassy character pyjamas and they needed new pyjamas anyway.)

I’m feeling some peer pressure here.
Is our family really so freakishly unusual in our mismatched non-Christmassy pyjamas at Christmas time?

My Facebook has been inundated with this too!! My PJ top and bottoms don’t even match so there was no chance of all matching family Christmas ones!

WhirlwindHugs · 25/12/2018 00:21

Every year I think, that might be funny. Then think, me and DH would look ridiculous.

This year I got the dc coordinated but not matching and vaguely but not insanely festive pj's as a compromise to the matching PJ insanity part of my brain.

Blondie1993 · 25/12/2018 00:29

I buy DS new pyjamas and give him them on Christmas Eve but they are never Christmas ones as they would only be worn for a few weeks and wouldn’t fit him the next year! I don’t wear pyjamas either, just a big cosy dressing down Xmas Smile.

I don’t think there’s enough beer on the planet to persuade my DH to wear matching Christmas pjs, let alone photograph him and post on social media!

BIWI · 25/12/2018 00:33

I buy my DC and DH (and my BIL because he's usually with us on Christmas Day) Christmas pyjamas! I don't buy matching ones though. And I buy myself some too.

ChristmassyContessaConSparkles · 25/12/2018 00:33

I suggest it to DH every year just so I can watch him turn pale.

In other news, I really like the Next pyjamas with the elf leggings and am off to buy some in the Boxing Day sales ASAP Grin

BoscosBosca · 25/12/2018 00:33

So glad it's not just me! My feed has been flooded with families in matching Christmas pjs. And, as a slight sideline, lots of people seem to have new sofas (in their photos) with Christmas throws/cushions too!

sweetkitty · 25/12/2018 00:36

I’m the only one in my family wearing Christmas jammies.

The rest of them would rather die than wear matching anything. They do have new pyjamas just not Christmas ones and definitely not matching.

CakeNinja · 25/12/2018 00:40

Dp and I don’t even wear pyjamas Grin
The dds would rather die than wear anything the same as each other.
Ds would wear any pyjamas.
As an aside, I also hate the idea that people buy new pyjamas on Christmas Eve “so they look nice in the photos the next morning” - it’s so staged and fake!! Photos from my christmases when I was little show me looking pretty bedraggled and crumpled but with the biggest smile on my face.
In my head, these matching pyjamas photos are just so unnatural and photoshootesque! A bit naff.
So no, we don’t do matching family pyjamas or take photos of it for social media.
I do wonder how much of this stuff (like elf on a shelf and the like) people would buy into if it weren’t for social media.

Jobbieseverywhere · 25/12/2018 00:46

We do have matching Christmas pajamas but there will be absolutely no photos on social media!!

And also I 'did it wrong' and gave them to my DH & DS on 1st Dec so we could wear them for a month in the lead up cos what do you do with Christmas Pajamas after the main event...?

Same here.

Don’t understand it myself. But I’m a twin and I had my lifetime fill of matching outfits by the time I finished primary school, so there’s no chance I’m entering into it as an adult!

Madein1995 · 25/12/2018 00:56

Ooh I love Christmas jammies. This is the fist year I'm in matching ones though. Usually it's tatty teddy christmas ones, and new slippers.

Tonight it's the Mrs Claus jim jam set (cotton material not fluffy so not too warm for bed) and santa bed socks complete with pom poms.

The dod hasn't got pyjamas (obs) but was bribed with a treat to wear a santa hat for some cute photos

My dds have matching pjs on they like to be the same the elves left them whilst we were out this afternoon. I've got Xmas pjs on they're black and white with ginger bread people. Dh has never worn pjs as long as I've known him, theres a snowballs chance in hell to matching ones.
My friends have just posted picks of the whole family wearing matching ones including granny and grandad and aunty and uncle fgs!

InSightMars · 25/12/2018 01:00

No matching pjs here, I do have 2 pairs of really nice, cosy pjs I treated myself to a few weeks ago but no Christmas motifs or patterns. DH will find a new robe among his gifts tomorrow because his old one is literally falling apart at the seams and it's time it was recycled as cat bed lining.

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2018 01:00

It's never been a thing in my family.

Pumpkintopf · 25/12/2018 01:02

Yes, exactly this! Plus it looks fake and people should live their lives in the real world not on social media.

FestiveGanesh · 25/12/2018 01:03

Same here. I don't understand why you'd want matching PJ's. DH and I don't wear them. We only wear them for decency when walking around the house/when we have guests.
My PJs have unicorns on.Dh has checked trousers and a scraggly old t-shirt.DD has grumpy cat. I have no wish to inflict this sight on any more people than strictly necessary.
I don't have Christmas bedding, towels or tableware either.

Zoflorabore · 25/12/2018 01:04

We have the Alder Hey stars pyjamas this year but it's our local hospital ( 10 mins away ) and every penny goes directly to them. Dp and I look ridiculous in them! Dd (7) has worn hers loads and they're fading and ds (15) doesn't wear anything to bed and refused to wear them.
We didn't get them for xmas eve though and certainly wouldn't do a photo in them.
I look like a clown in them as it is Grin

A lot of these photos are so staged it's unreal...

I wanted matching pyjamas for us all, but couldn't find any! I kept seeing adverts in the papers for them, but then coukdnt find any in the shops. Next had some online but we didn't like any of the designs. M&s had some online also but they sold out of the sizes we needed. Where did everyone get them from?!

Schmoobarb · 25/12/2018 01:35

My husband would point blank refuse and my kids would die, so no.

I’ve never bought Christmas pyjamas either, just regular new ones

MrsMartinRohde · 25/12/2018 01:50

The last Christmas pyjamas I bought were for DS1, and they were size 12-18 months. He's now 9yo.

DC are asleep in just pants. Neither DP or I wear pyjamas either.

But yes I've seen maybe 4 or
5 Facebook pictures of matching families tonight. Each to their own I guess.
