Everyone else is wearing Christmas pyjamas!!

Just been looking at Facebook and it is full of Christmas Eve photos of my Facebook friends and their families - every single family grouping is wearing matching Christmas pyjamas.

My family do not have matching Christmas pyjamas. Or any Christmas pyjamas. I did not even consider buying a family set of Christmas pyjamas when I walked past the displays in the shops.
(I did buy the DC new pyjamas for Christmas, but they’re non-Christmassy character pyjamas and they needed new pyjamas anyway.)

I’m feeling some peer pressure here.
Is our family really so freakishly unusual in our mismatched non-Christmassy pyjamas at Christmas time?

Nope- no matching PJs here (DH in his pants and I’m in mismatched top and check bottoms...I don’t think there will be photos!!). FB is indeed full of whole families standing in front of the Christmas tree in matching pyjamas.

LemonBeachTowel · 25/12/2018 07:38

I have matching Pjs with teenage DD. No chance that I will get my 28 and 20 year old sons to join us unfortunately!

Christmas pajamas are embarrassing.

None here either. Wondered why my FB feed was full of photos this year. It’s just cringeworthy.... each to their own but not for me. DH was simply die if we did this and any photos were on social media.

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 25/12/2018 07:46

Would not was.

sunshineandshowers21 · 25/12/2018 20:46

for christmas eve me, my partner, and two boys had matching harry potter pyjamas, and our baby had a harry potter baby grow. we all love them!

mamaslave18 · 25/12/2018 20:49

I was tempted but they can only be worn for a couple of nights so I thought better of it.

cheminotte · 25/12/2018 20:52

I’m generally anti anything that’s too seasonal, although in the last 5 years have relented and got myself a Christmas jumper. PJs would be too far.

Ruddle91 · 25/12/2018 20:54

We get new pjs Xmas eve - but not gimmicky Xmas ones we won't get much wear from.

CmdrIvanova · 25/12/2018 20:56

My DC (4 &1) were in matching pjs. Tbh I kind of wanted to match too but couldn't find any decent ones. We always got new pjs at Christmas (Yes, for the photos, in the 80s!) So I've kept doing it. I'm happier putting the DC in unseasonal pyjamas than buying Christmas jumpers. I think it's cute when they're little. Mine you, my two wouldn't sit still for a photo.

Birdsgottafly · 25/12/2018 20:58

tumpymummy, the Alderhey ones are from Matalan. Branded Bargains, B&M and Asda did family Pj's.

Christmas is quite an important day. If I'm going out, I wear new/nice clothes. So I don't see the issue with wanting new Pj's, on Christmas/Mothers Day/Birthdays.

drspouse · 25/12/2018 21:00

I get my DCs new pyjamas at Christmas and yes they are Christmas pyjamas because they don't care whether it's December, or March, they wear them.
DH would laugh in my face if I suggested he wear them.

hugoagogo · 25/12/2018 21:04

I'm intrigued by the deletions on this thread. Were they trying to sell us christmas pjs?

I always buy the dc new one for christmas, but not festive ones as I've been told off for in the pastXmas Hmm

ShadyLady53 · 25/12/2018 21:08

I’m single but the idea of me wearing the same pjs as my ex or any man really completely grossed me out. I’ve seen a lot of stuff on Instagram recently of mother’s and their kids wearing matching clothing and I find that really odd too. I can pinpoint why but it just makes me feel uncomfortable?!

MacarenaFerreiro · 25/12/2018 21:11

I have seen one friend doing it. Not something I'd ever want to do. I have no desire to be matchy matchy with my kids, and they have even less to be matchy matchy with me and DH. I don't own a single item of Christmas clothing and that;s not changing any time soon.

MadisonMontgomery · 25/12/2018 21:12

Yep, this year everyone I know (not just people with kids either) seems to have Christmas pyjamas! Might buy some in the sales for next year.

Theromanempire · 25/12/2018 21:22

We do all get new pjs on Christmas eve but they are not Christmas ones - honestly don't see the point as surely they would get worn for a few days and then shoved in a drawer for the rest of the year and then be too small next year Hmm

But then I don't live my life on social media so probably not the target market Blush

ILoveMyMonkey · 25/12/2018 21:41

Matching Christmas PJ's here. We all wear PJ's (cold house) and have always given and received new ones on Christmas day. Festive ones are worn all year round (no-one sees them so who cares whether they're festive and it's not Christmas!)

We had showers this morning and have been in our new matching pjs all day - lovely and slovenly ha ha Xmas Smile

And yes I did post on social media - standing in front of the 🌲... uh oh - let the judging begin Xmas Hmm Xmas Grin

Marmite27 · 25/12/2018 21:45

We ended up staying at my mums due to an emergency early in December so he ended up buying the DC matching Christmas pjs as they were the only ones in their size.

They wore them on the 23rd when we did an early Christmas and had non matching ones last night.

My mum did debate buying me and DH matching ones, but was told where to go Grin it’s more my DB and SILs thing.

BrieAndChilli · 25/12/2018 21:51

The thing is only people with matching pjs are going to take a photo and put it on Facebook! The rest of us in our tatty pjs or joggers or normal clothes just aren’t taking photos of it!!

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 25/12/2018 21:57

DH wouldn't pose in any kind of nightwear and certainly not matching. DD and I only wear nighties, so it's not happening here.

Heatherjayne1972 · 25/12/2018 22:05

It’s definitely a thing here in my friend zone and on fb I mean
It’s not for my kids

I did buy pyjamas but only because they needed new and besides both my kids would rather poke their eyes out with a spoon that wear anything matching with me

FinallyHere · 26/12/2018 10:00

When you start to consider doing things just because you have seen them on Facebook, you have an argument in favour of taking a break from Facebook. Do what you want and enjoy yourself. Comparing yourself to others is a sure fire way to suck the joy from your life.
