I know NYR are usually never met (diet and so on lol), but just interested to hear what other things have you got planned out for 2019? This is my list so far:

  • Complete Maths and English Courses
  • Enrol into BTEC course
  • Use less technology (phone)
  • Go out more with DS
  • Write things I am grateful for every day
  • Change lifestyle and eat healthily again
  • Save money

Can't think of anything else ATM. What about you? Xmas Smile

To generally just chill the fuck out. I've managed to chill a bit over the past few weeks and it's lifechanging. Can't wait to be a serene chilled out goddess, wafting round in a sea of chill. Grin

amysaurus87 · 23/12/2018 07:15

Oooh I love a thread like this! Here's mine:

  • Spend less time on my phone and social media
  • Resume my healthy eating
  • Walk 1000 miles (I did it this year and would like to do it again)
  • Save money (ideally £3k by the end of the year- interesting challenge as I will have childcare costs!)
  • Photo a day of myself and my little boy
  • Keep a diary

We should check back and see how we are doing!

What an amazing idea @amysaurus87. It is something I'd love to stick to! I'm still thinking about what NYR I want to achieve for 2019. I'm sure I will end up with a list as long as my arm lol. I'm with you on the childcare costs! I'm in the exact same predicament :( so that will certainly be a challenge in itself.

I'm going to buy more expensive, but better, clothes. A good friend I made on here told me you can neither be overdressed or over educated.

I'm going to get back into my photography and perhaps take a class on taking photos of models.

Get behind the wheel again and conquer my driving anxiety.

Otterses · 23/12/2018 07:41

It may be over ambitious, but I need a total life over haul. I've really lost myself after having DS and our TTC journey.

. Healthier eating.
. Taking care of myself, and allocating time for it.
. Develop some sense of fashion sense again.
. Exercise
. Start Uni in January to get my career back on track
. Volunteer again to get my confidence up
. Make new friends (a lot of mine have moved)
. Really get into matched betting, so I can hopefully afford to quit my awful job and do something that makes me happy. Alternatively, save 12k so I can afford some time off work to just do ad hoc agency work while I retrain.
. Get, and keep the house organised.
. Spend more time with DH. It'll Mrs visiting family less at weekends, but we need more time together. Our relationships really struggled this year due to prioritising extended family rather than ourselves.

So I'm not aiming high at all!

Weepingwillows12 · 23/12/2018 07:52

I agree on the total overhaul. I have put on three stone this year as a result of no exercise, poor eating choices (takeaways and managing tiredness with sugary food) and self medicating anxiety with alcohol. I know I am a mess but so tired I have struggled to fix anything so just in a rubbish spiral.

Starting 2019 with a big walk. Need to fix my mental health so want a relaxing hobby (maybe yoga?), eat healthier, more active and try and just be better. It's massively overwhelming so small steps.

amysaurus87 · 23/12/2018 07:57

So many great things on here already! That's a great one with the driving @cheesenpickles I'm in a similar position I can drive but I get so stressed and anxious so I don't drive often, which makes it worse! I might have to nab that as one of my own NYR

JumpersForGoalposts · 23/12/2018 07:58

The main one is to stop drinking.

It's very easy to say but I know I'll find it hard .

LastOneDancing · 23/12/2018 07:58

Get back to better food choices & regular exercise.
Drink more water.
Cut down on single use plastic.
Reduce the amount of meat I eat. Veggie is unrealustiv ATM, but only one meat product a day & one veggie day a week is definitely realistic.

2018 has been a good year for me, I'm hopeful for 2019!

Ragwort · 23/12/2018 07:58

Resume my Low Carb diet, did so well, getting the support on Mumsnet but then completely lost interest and put all the weight back.

Less time on Mumsnet Blush.

Actively learn how to use technology better, there’s so much I don’t know/understand that could be useful (not Social Media type stuff).

Spend more time with my elderly parents, I realise that they are not going to be around forever (both late 80s) & I want to spend quality time with them now.

Decorating, new carpets and generally improving our home, we’ve had a a generous inheritance & as mortgage is paid off it would be good to invest in doing up our home, just that I hate the organising & choosing of new bathrooms etc.

Hopefully seeing our DS off to university, fingers crossed.

Good thread, it’s nice to write these things down to reflect on throughout the year. Smile.

RedPandaMama · 23/12/2018 07:59

Ooh love to make lists!

Dedicate more time to studying for my MA - it's taken a back bench during house move and illness and I'm behind.
Finally lose the 2 stone of baby weight I still have a year on.
Get into a proper exercise routine.

cheesenpickles · 23/12/2018 08:01

@amysaurus87 do it! My life is so dictated around bus timetables and my dh giving me lifts - despite having a blinking driving license.

It was a huge thing to to pass and I spent a fortune. Needs to be done! Thanks

Timmymagical · 23/12/2018 08:08

This is a great thread. I would also like to walk 1000 miles next year. Spend less time on social media. I gave up sweets and cakes etc about four months ago as had dreadful anxiety and not sleeping especially around PMT and this has really helped.

WonkyDonk87 · 23/12/2018 08:09

I like to make mine specific and achievable:

  • regularly give to a charity (that I know is well run and works with women as it's focus).
- remember to feed the garden birds - learn how to manage my phone storage/do updates - unlock my child's savings bond (which matured 23 years ago) and put some money into a separate savings. - have a baby (currently 34 weeks pregnant so feel I've made a good start on this one!)
AwkwardSquad · 23/12/2018 08:10

cheesenpickles and amysaurus87 I’ll join you on the journey to conquering driving anxiety. I think I’ve become almost phobic but I have to deal with it, it’s limiting my choices.

AwkwardSquad · 23/12/2018 08:12

My other ones are to read more books and to start a yoga class (and keep attending it!).

allyourcats · 23/12/2018 08:17

Same Jumpers.

Lose a couple of stone.

The usual.

NotPennysBoat · 23/12/2018 08:19

Lovely thread, I'll have a think on mine but just wanted to pop on to recommend Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube for anyone wanting to start. She usually does a 30-day thing in January which is brilliant for all abilities... and she's totally lovely too (I want to be her!).

Lipsticktraces · 23/12/2018 08:48

Get out more. I’ve got 18 week old twins and leaving the house is currently that difficult that I often don’t bother.

Learn to drive (see above)

Nuggetsandwich · 23/12/2018 08:52

To not buy a single carrier bag in 2019.

milkandpancakes · 23/12/2018 08:57

For me it's:

  • Less Netflix, more reading (try to read for at least half an hour a day). I love reading but tend to go for the easier option of spacing out in front of a screen.
  • Make a plan and stick to it so I can gain a qualification I've been working towards.
  • Take the train to work instead of driving (both environment and health reasons - more walking).
  • Take baby steps towards better mental and physical health e.g. using meditation apps, CBT techniques, SAD lamp, taking vitamins, gym once a week. Realistically I'm not going to be 100% consistent with this because I never am but if I can do at least one positive thing every day towards it then that's a big step forward!
  • A 100% smoke-free 2019 - possibly my most important goal and I know I can do this one, I don't even smoke heavily, I just need to stop being flaky about it!
  • Less food waste, less plastic crap, less consumerism.
  • Make decisions and stick to them.
  • Use my diary and calendar.
  • Plan happy-making things (eg music stuff, volunteering, day trips, seeing friends).
Somewhereovertherainbow13 · 23/12/2018 08:59

So much inspiration here - thank you

I plan to:

  • spend weekends doing meaningful activities with the kids not just sitting at home
  • make new friends, I honestly feel as if I have none at the moment
  • get my house and finances in order to either help improve my marriage or to be able to start to thing about formally separating
Noteverythingisabingthing · 23/12/2018 09:00

Stop taking my prescribed medication (it is something you have to do gradually),
Lose weight
Buy a house
Be pregnant by next Christmas (providing the other 3 points have been completed!)

PersonaNonGarter · 23/12/2018 09:03

Wage war against the cardboard boxes in my house.

They are lurking everywhere variously filled with papers or stuff to be posted somewhere or crockery that should go the the charity shop. I do a hobby that is seasonal so there’s lots of half-packed equipment that I need to find proper storage for. I want to end 2019 without cardboard boxes!
