Crying about new bathroom?

pepperjack · 22/12/2018 00:03

I can't even go in there
Why do I get all the workmen that are just not particular about the finish
There's so many little things wrong
And I'm going to be a right moany old cow complaining about them.

And they're supposed to be doing my other bathroom too 😩

Pics?

MrsFezziwig · 22/12/2018 00:07

Do they accept what is wrong, and are they intending to put it right? Telling them what is wrong isn’t being a “right moany cow”.
And I certainly wouldn’t be letting them loose on a second bathroom until the first one was sorted.

SD1978 · 22/12/2018 00:16

What are the issues you have? It's not moaning if the work hasn't been compelted to standard

pepperjack · 22/12/2018 00:23

They scarpered off today while I was out, so I haven't spoken to them about it yet

I'm annoyed that they told me just this week that they won't be painting - that's not included.
The electrician hasn't done ceiling lights.
The radiator only came out today, and it's way too big, and they never asked me how high I wanted it, they obviously never measured where the top of it would sit on the tiles- so it now sits on the tile edge so won't screw flush against the wall. And it's the first thing you see in the mirror when you come in.
The coving still has all the plaster from previous tiles on it- who fixes that?
There's a big gap on the window sill?
They didn't ask me about the positioning of the toilet or sink and I think they're really low.
I don't know what's happening with the shower drain? It just looks awful
I'll see what photos I can post

I’d be crying AND murderous.

There’s NO WAY they’d be going near anything else in my house ever.

Soontobe60 · 22/12/2018 00:31

That's reall shoddy workmanship. I'd be livid. Have you paid them?

pepperjack · 22/12/2018 00:39

They've been paid about half

The owner is lovely and hasn't seen it yet, he's a bit of a perfectionist so hopefully he'll see it the way I see it

OP posts:
brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 01:02

It's awful, get the owner out asap and don't pay any more until it's fixed.

CrispsForBreakfast · 22/12/2018 04:33

Don't pay any more money until you're happy with the job.

Make a snagging list for them and you to tick off when you're happy with the finish. Although from your photos, that's more than just snagging!
Don't even let them in the 2nd bathroom until this one has been finished to to correct spec. And don't let them ģer away with shoddy work out of frustration, if you're not happy, tell them it's not good enough.
I dread to think how much money they've been paid but they'd not be getting another penny from me.

We're in the middle of getting our bathroom done and it's been awful. The amout of workmen who just don't bother to turn up is shocking.

Be strong op and show them you mean business. They'll start asking for more money for wages or what ever, tell them there's no money until the job is done to the standard that You, or any customer would expect.

Good luck Flowers

Flowers

Tilers can really fuck up a beautiful bathroom. We had absolute games doing two bathrooms and a utility floor - different workmen each time but amazingly they all managed to tile as if it was their first day on the job.

The radiator in particular would do my nut.
Let the owner know your concerns immeditely - these things need to be raised before they're paid.

Oblomov18 · 22/12/2018 08:18

OMG Shock

You are not a moany cow. That work is very poor. The finishing is awful.
Please tell the boss. You have every right to demand that this is sorted.

But tbf you are being partly unreasonable. Certain things you should have discussed beforehand.

You say they never asked? They should have. Did you ask?

You should have measured the radiator. Or discussed it with the main man.

When you say they didn't discuss how high to place sink. That's a basic discussion that every main contractor should have with the client.

I'm very small so I'd want my bathroom cabinet lower, so I can see in the mirror.

Because everyone is different. It should have been discussed when the toilet and sink arrived, prior to fitting.

pepperjack · 22/12/2018 09:10

It's taken 3 weeks
The fix for everything was in, but they only fixed everything in place on the last day. They asked where I wanted the mirror and the shower head!
The sink unit could be refixed- the taps are on the wall.
The toilet position is determined by the pipe so guess that's unchangeable.

They also but the underfloor heating control on the feature wall- why would you do that? Not fixed in yet.
The electrician let them down yesterday. So all that is still to be done, but they were supposed to be done yesterday.

And the skip is still on my drive.

The radiator is another story

I showed him the type of thing I wanted.
Then he came up with this funky freestanding bars. Which I said yes to.
Then when they were doing the pipes I queried it, and they said no we have a radiator.
I went with the radiator because tbh I wasn't completely 100% with the bars.

So I didn't ok this specific radiator
But then I should've asked why we weren't going with the bars

The radiator is lovely , just too big. I could use it in the other bathroom.

Poor you.
However them patterned tiles are absolutely beautiful!

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/12/2018 09:27

Who is paying for the work?

Parker231 · 22/12/2018 09:34

Make a full detailed list of the issues with photos, email it to the boss with a statement that no further payments will be made until the full snagging list is completed to a professional standard.

pepperjack · 22/12/2018 09:37

I'm just going to have a shower and then I'll get on to him.
I don't think the water pressure is any goood😩😩😩

Floralnomad · 22/12/2018 09:41

I would be going berserk and even if they put it right I wouldn’t have them do any other work .

pepperjack · 22/12/2018 09:49

Thanks Rogue- I adore the green tiles

SagelyNodding · 22/12/2018 09:55

That's shocking! We had the exact same problem last year and the landlord and the builder had a massive fight in our new tiny shoddily finished bathroom. The builder never came back, and the landlord took no steps to get anything sorted so now we have a crappy half finished bathroom with NOTHING as agreed on the original plan Sad
Insist on everything being finished-can you report them? Or if they are online say you will give them a bad review?

CurlsandCurves · 22/12/2018 09:59

Stay calm.

Make a list of everything you’re not happy with. If there are things you want changing, again write down exactly what you want instead.

Then speak to the company owner, not the guys who did the job (unless they’re one and the same).

Explain what’s happened, go through your list and be clear that once these things have been fixed and you are happy with the standard of work, only then will they receive full payment.

DropZoneOne · 22/12/2018 10:18

Oh dear Sad We had similar with our bathroom - lots of little things that added up to an overall poor result. As we'd used Wickes, i got onto them and pushed until they agreed to rip it all out and start again.

Def call the owner, ask him to review - let him look and tell you what's not to standard before jumping in. I'd certainly expect painting to be included, making good the coving and door frames etc.

CatToddlerUprising · 22/12/2018 10:22

If you’re renting, why isn’t the landlord chasing all of this up?

pepperjack · 22/12/2018 10:24

I'm not rentingConfused
