That is all.
He has carried me through some awful dark times. I will miss him not JoWhiney though

I felt really emotional when he played Born to run. Can't wait to see the back of Chris Evans! Simon Mayo was a constant on the R1 breakfast show during my turbulent teens and have loved him all over again on drivetime.

namechangedyetagain · 21/12/2018 17:22

Me too Chris Evans and his family can do one. But I love Simon❤

I actually cried when he played the Simon maaayooo jingle. I will miss him but haven’t listened since Jo started so it’s feels like less of a wrench.

I certainly won’t miss Chris Evans and is annoying smugness

Peridot1 · 21/12/2018 17:33

It was so nice to hear the jingle and then him playing Born to Run. Turned the radio right up and danced around the kitchen. They dogs were Hmm

Happygolucky009 · 21/12/2018 17:36

Radio 2 confessions rip Sad

beela · 21/12/2018 17:36

I don't want him to go either! It was rubbish with Jo Whiley though.

But Sara Cox..... I'm going to have to find a new radio station Xmas Sad

SandlakeRd · 21/12/2018 17:42

I don’t mind Sara Cox so will give her a try. It all really feels like the end of an era - especially with all the radio 1 stuff. The BBC really are idiots to have made this happen!

madvixen · 21/12/2018 17:48

It's not a music show but Simon Mayo will still be on Radio 5 between 2 and 4 on a Friday for his film show with Mark Kermode

northender · 21/12/2018 17:58

madvixen the film show is great too.
I quite like Sara Cox so will listen, but just have had such an emotional attachment to Simon Mayo's shows. I don't know what the reality is, but he certainly comes across as much less of an ego than most of the others (Steve Wright and Chris Evans particularly)

mrsrhodgilbert · 21/12/2018 17:59

Where’s Jo tonight? I was interested to hear how the wrapped it up, given that it’s been a bit of a disaster. I’m really sorry to be losing him too.

Clickncollect · 21/12/2018 18:04

I don’t want him to leave either!! I’ve only been a listener for 3 years since I had my son and Simon has been great company through the newborn days as my son has got older and also carried me through the dark period of my dad dying. It sounds dramatic but radio presenters are company and feel like friends!

Hen2018 · 21/12/2018 18:06

Simon Mayo at breakfast... our school bus took 45 mins, our college bus an hour and a half (each way!)

If the confession hadn’t quite finished, the bus driver used to park up and let us stay on so we could hear the end!

openupmyeagereyes · 21/12/2018 18:54

Radio 2 will be poorer without him. He will be missed.

openupmyeagereyes · 21/12/2018 19:00

mrsrhodgilbert he did the last show with Jo last night. They had lots of guests on. I’m glad they let him finish on his own, immeasurably better. I will miss All Request Friday.

He just said he never intended to go Sad

Clickncollect · 21/12/2018 19:01

His farewell lines!! ‘Everything will be sparkling and magic’ - perhaps a reference that he is moving to Magic?!

BikeTart · 21/12/2018 19:05

Has Jo gone as well hopeful

PolaDeVeboise · 21/12/2018 19:05

Or M&S if you say it round the other way Grin

Primrose722 · 21/12/2018 19:06

Gutted he has gone....

bionicnemonic · 21/12/2018 19:11

His last song on his last day on Radio One and as Nick Drakes Northern Sky unfurled I sobbed my way through the entire song.
The world would be a lovelier place with more people like him

lynnepot · 21/12/2018 19:19

R2 have really messed up losing the Simon mayo show. A simple case of if it was not broke don't fix it. I used to love the school homework and listeners confessions on my way home from work.

openupmyeagereyes · 21/12/2018 19:27

I agree lynnepot. It’s cutting your nose off to spite your face. He may have been a middle-aged, white man but he was terrific.

Elledouble · 21/12/2018 19:31

What with this, Shaun Keaveny switching from the 6 Music breakfast show and RadMac going to weekend mornings it’s not going to be worth listening to the radio any more Sad

Vinorosso74 · 21/12/2018 19:51

I'm not a R2 listener but used to love the confessions on his R1 breakfast show!
Am going to find the changes on 6music odd and will miss Shaun at breakfast. That said I like Chris Hawkins so will gear more of him. Not a Maryann Hobbs fan so not sure I'll enjoy the morning show.
Was good to hear Mark Radcliffe on their last afternoon show today.

lynnepot · 21/12/2018 20:00

Yeah I'm sort radio station homeless now. I'm considering calling gold fm my new home. They seem to play good music with minimal dj chatter.

PatchworkElmer · 21/12/2018 20:17

I felt like this when Terry Wogan left.
