cauliflower cheese and home made chunky chips

losenotloose · 21/12/2018 16:00

Ooh, good idea! I have a cauliflower in the fridge. Might have to be with potato wedges as I don't have a deep fat fryer.

Mashed potato and white sauce with parsley in is how my DM cooks it.
DH likes it with a fried egg or a pineapple ring and chips.

It sounds weird, but we always have it with potato salad at christmas. Can't remember how that started but it's tradition now!

losenotloose · 21/12/2018 16:02

I like the idea of potato salad, could do coleslaw as well.

Roasted cauliflower Alfredo. It’s my absolute favourite!

I'm having gammon Xmas eve with homemade oven chips, fried egg, baked beans and bread and butter.🤤

Cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, leeks & bacon and applesauce.

ShadyLady53 · 21/12/2018 16:12

We are having it with a nice salad, pickles, cold boiled egg, a hunk of cheese and either some roast potatoes or chunky chips.

Sexnotgender · 21/12/2018 16:13

What's roasted cauliflower alfredo??

Roast cauliflower florets in the oven with salt, pepper and olive oil. I like them really quite dark!

Make Alfredo sauce separately:
Knob of butter melted
Couple cloves garlic lightly coloured in butter
Half tub of double cream
Half block Parmesan grated

Melt all above into delicious creamy cheesy sauce, takes about 5/10 minutes. Once cauliflower is cooked Chuck it in the sauce.

I often put crispy Parma ham or cooked mushrooms in the sauce, whatever I have to hand.

I’ll be making it to go with my turkey on Christmas Day.

losenotloose · 21/12/2018 23:09

Sounds delicious sex. Not sure I'd have it with turkey!

Mustard mash

Misty9 · 21/12/2018 23:15

We just had it hot with red cabbage and roasties etc, then cold with egg peas and potato wedges. Yum

LRDtheFeministDragon · 21/12/2018 23:19

I fancy Cauliflower Alfredo! Never had that.

In my childhood we always had gammon on Christmas Eve and always with baked potatoes (mostly so mum could pop them in the oven and take us all to the afternoon carol service). I think that goes well. Especially with plenty of butter (garlic butter when we were older), and good cranberry sauce. There's something really comforting about a good big oven-baked potato and ham.

PersonaNonGarter · 21/12/2018 23:20

Boiled potatoes, parsley sauce and packets of baby veg. Must have: mustard and red current jelly and lots of pepper.

Have the whole lot cold again the following day, without the parsley sauce.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/12/2018 01:09

White sauce, with finely diced onion through it and roast potatoes and green veg.

Sexnotgender · 22/12/2018 12:53

It'll definitely go with Turkey losenotloose it goes with everything!

Crikeyblimey · 22/12/2018 13:02

We have little spuds roasted with some garlic. I use a jar of roasted pepper antipasti to roast the potatoes for extra lovelyness.

I then do steamed cauli and sprouts (we love sprouts) and parsley sauce. Can’t wait.

Pinkyponkcustard · 22/12/2018 13:04

We are having it with roasties and red cabbage

BiscuitDrama · 22/12/2018 13:08

We do potatoes dauphinois.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 22/12/2018 13:14

Chips or wedges and / or hot bread (like the part baked rolls) coleslaw and beans or a bag of salad and cherry tomatoes, homemade potato salad is good (boiled baby potatoes, chopped red onion, mayo, and a little mustard). I’m cooking mine tomorrow, so we’ll probably have it with something hot then, and then something cold on Christmas Eve.

CupoBlood · 22/12/2018 13:55

We always have jackets spuds and homemade coleslaw
