Ds16

Not really having a “main” present this year. He’s asked for expensive Seinheiser headphones for his PC and wants money. I think at this age having some disposable income is their main objective.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 21/12/2018 13:12

My 14 year old doesn't want anything and has actually said if we buy him anything then he'll obviously be grateful but if he knows it's expensive he'll take it back 🙄
I'm feeling quite sad about Christmas this year

bionicnemonic · 21/12/2018 13:16

Sugarhunnyicedtea sounds as though your dc has good principles.
My DS didn’t want anything either but he’s enjoyed playing a friends acoustic guitar so I hope to find him one in the New Year

He got a bike for birthday/Xmas so no other big presents this year. Think the most expensive thing was a bike helmet!

TarragonSauce · 21/12/2018 13:51

If nothing obvious jumps out in connection with current hobbies/interests, time to consider a new one. Is he arty? Likely to study art/design/media - perhaps a decent DSLR camera starter kit? Also works for those interested in nature/wildlife/ecology.
The thing about starting someone off with photography (or similar) is that the years ahead are covered by gifts of accessories - lenses, cases, filters, cards, batteries, remote shutters, tripods, experience days.
You can get Canon EOS DSLRs quite reasonably nowadays. If you start with a 1200D, you also give yourself the opportunity of trading up to a 700D etc in future (the lower the number in the series, the better the camera).

Ps4 but only managed it from an utility rebate I had this year. He's wanted one for past year or 2 but he's worked really hard in his mocks and been absolute star to me.

AirPods here too, was gonna be a bomber jacket from his fave American football team , but bloody post office massively cocked it up and have now sent it back to the USA without delivering it. Soooo it's (enormously expensive) AirPods as we haven't got time to get him anything else that was on his list Angry.

Ps4 - between ds14 and 2 younger siblings.

SmokeGetsInYourEye · 21/12/2018 15:05

Wallet and a watch but mostly a cheque!

pollyhampton · 21/12/2018 15:07

Branded hoodie and earphones from us for ds15. He is also getting clothes and money. Sounds boring but it's what he really wants!

RippleEffects · 21/12/2018 15:11

3D printer - he's Autistic and taught himself solid modelling recently. We gave it to him 1st December as a mind focus to get through the Christmas mayhem period.

On Christmas day he's getting a shared present along with his brother and two cousins of a learner driver first lesson in an off road driving school. Starting early with driving lessons as we think it may take him a while.

Ladytinselmuff · 21/12/2018 15:17

Watch (he asked for it) other than that he really wants designer label clothes Xmas Hmmand money, which I'm less keen on as younger siblings will have more (cheaper) items to unwrap, so imo it's a bit miserable if you don't have some stocking things!! I have also got him some travel size Clinique men's grooming stuff and a stupid pop figure of a character from fortnite! Might do panic buying of a few more bits on Xmas eve. Aaarghh!! On the flip side there is absolutely no point buying a boy this age things they do not actively want as they just don't see the point of nice thoughtful gifts. Or socks. Xmas Grin

We haven’t really got DS anything. It was his birthday on Wednesday and he didn’t get much for that as he had a yachting trip in April which he desperately wanted to do and we said would have to be his birthday present.
We are putting money aside to get him his kit for when he goes to the World scout jamboree next year- his walking boots cost us £120 last time and he’s grown out of them. He doesn’t want us to buy them yet as he said he’ll just grow out of them too fast. He is also getting 2 years phone contract (sim only) so that’s £240+!

ihearttc · 21/12/2018 16:39

DS is nearly 14 and is getting a steering wheel for his xbox, a mini drone (no where near Gatwick though!), aftershave, an echo dot and a stocking with American Sweets, boxer shorts and smells.

AlexandraPeppernose · 21/12/2018 17:23

Xbox game and some designer pants.

FuzzyShadowChatter · 21/12/2018 17:35

It does seem to get harder as mine has gotten older. Top of my 14-year-old son's wishlist is a very specific jacket, followed by fancy leather gloves, a few books, and some game stuff.

cece · 21/12/2018 17:45

Trainers
Xbox gold subscription
Clothes
Toiletries

Plus were helping him fund his forthcoming trip to world scout jamboree in America.

IWouldPreferNotTo · 21/12/2018 17:52

@RippleEffects

This is a really good first project for a 3D printer, doesn't require a high degree of accuracy (compared to some models) and can look really good after an acetone vapour process to smooth it out.
