Please talk me into buying a label maker. Or are they a waste of money?

I keep looking at label makers, thinking one would be useful.

Dh keeps stroking my hand slowly and giving me looks of pity when I harp on about buying one.

If you have one, what items/things do you, or have you, label/labelled?
Have you bought one and found it to be a waste of time or money?

I don’t have children, but I like gardening and cookery, so if you think they are useful for those, please talk me into buying one.
Thanks in advance 💐💐💐

I love my label maker, it’s one of those that make the old school looking embossed labels.
I’ve labelled all of my work IT equipment as we all have the same laptop, chargers etc and have had so many people at work asking me to make them labels too!

@GrouchyKiwi, your labels sound fine.
Roll on Thursday when it arrives.

I read this thread over the Christmas holidays and I got very excited about the potential of a label maker but realised I should not give in to the desire.

Then I was looking for some staplers in our stationery drawer and what did I find? An unopened Brother P-touch 1000 electronic labelling system which belongs to my partner.

Out of politeness, I'm waiting for him to come home before I open it, but I'm very excited about what I'm going to be able to label. My only concern is that it's at least 3 years old and there are 6 AAA batteries which are probably out of date and I've not got any more in the house :-S

How did you get on with yours BoringSoup? Is it as exciting as you thought it would be?

wanderings · 11/01/2019 13:52

If the batteries haven't been used, I wouldn't worry about the dates on them. Just use them!

I used my label maker to say "Christmas cake - this way up".

Do a Google images search for "funny label maker": lots of silly ideas come up.

WhatshouldIpay · 11/01/2019 21:45

Well, I was allowed to use it, and have very excitingly started with labels for our new boiler and heating system controls. Rock and roll I am 😀

BoringSoup · 11/01/2019 22:31

@WhatshouldIpay.

I love it! I batchcooked some food for the freezer and labelled the lids with what food and the date I froze it.

I’ve created all sorts of labels, with different designs.
I’m currently looking for glass spice jars to create labels for them.

Dh is STILL stroking my hand verrryy slowly....😆

Changed my username back to boringsoup, but it’s not coming up as OP 🤭..

My 11DD asked for a Dymo label maker for Xmas and she (and us) have had loads of use from it! Wouldn't be without one now even though we thought it would be redundant after a few uses Grin

We label drinks bottles/tupperware, storage boxes, clothing (with the clothing cassette/tape), plugs, toy boxes etc they are very useful!

BoringSoupBeforeTheTurkeyFeast · 11/01/2019 22:38

Let’s see if this works..
Storage boxes are on my list as well.
In fact, dh is at work tomorrow and I’ve got the day to myself so.....😄

Ooh, and it has a pictograph option where I can choose a subject, say DIY, somI created a label with dh’s name with spanners on each side.

OMG 😄.

*so I created..

Glad everyone has found good uses with theirs.

I ordered more label tape of different colourways, so I’m all sorted for when the sample tape runs out. For next Xmas (I know, I know), I’m ordering the Xmas label tape for presents.

That pictograph option, though...

Do the labels stay on in the freezer?

BoringSoupBeforeTheTurkeyFeast · 17/01/2019 09:03

Yes, they stay on @Gentlygently

I’d accidentally left a label on when I’d took one of my Tupperware bowls out of the freezer and took it to work. Took it off by sticking my nail underneath it and loosening the edge.
The labels I got are laminated. Not sure if they all are.

The label tape is laminated, I mean.
