I'm having last minute doubts about what we're getting for DS!

What are you getting for yours?

Lindy2 · 19/12/2018 22:40

She's getting a phone , mainly because I want her to have got used to having one before starting secondary school next September. She will need to go to school by bus so I want her to have a phone before she does that.
She is also getting a remote controlled car.

giveovermypreciousss · 19/12/2018 22:43

A keyboard and a personalised Harry Potter trunk.

wakemewhenitsallover · 19/12/2018 22:43

This isn't helping! Grin

See, what he really wants is a games console or a computer.

I don't feel we can justify spending that kind of money on a toy. We don't have a lot of money and there's no way we're spending anything like £200 on his sister's present.

But then I reasoned, if it was a computer, then it'd at least be educational. I could justify spending all that money on something if it was investing in his education / skills. And he is showing interest in coding. And he'll be going to secondary soon.

But then, looking at computers, although we can get a computer for about £200, the ones you use for gaming are much more than that aren't they?

So if we pushed the boat out and spent £200 on a computer, would it actually be a disappointment?!

EVERYTHING he wants is tech related. (What he wants most of all is a VR set, but he's not getting one of those as I don't like the idea of him being on it all the time, which he will be!)

wakemewhenitsallover · 19/12/2018 22:44

FWIW he's got a smart phone (which he's on all the time). We don't have any kind of console.

OP posts:
cowfacemonkey · 19/12/2018 22:49

Yeah to be honest for gaming you’re looking to spend £700 on a laptop.
Second hand games consoles are easy to come by so you wouldn’t have to spend a fortune.

wakemewhenitsallover · 19/12/2018 22:50

Does anyone have any experience of laptops that cost about £200 - is it madness to be able to expect to play games on them?

I usually spend about £5-600 on a laptop (DD has broken 3 now - that's 1 every 2 years on average - it's becoming a regular occurrence!)

A tablet mainly because the stuff on his list needs a tablet or phone. It’s mainly Harry Potter related. Coding with a wand, books, Lego hogwarts express, stikbot animation, Harry Potter DVD set, books, Indiana Jones wii game and dvd and most importantly chocolate. He’s unfortunately our only DC and my DH goes soft at this time of year.

wakemewhenitsallover · 19/12/2018 22:51

£700?!! Shock

wakemewhenitsallover · 19/12/2018 22:52
