The pill that delays your periods -

What are your experiences? Anyone had a bad experience using it?
Thinking about using it for Christmas. Is it worth it?

Anyone? Smile

It did the job but gave me horrendous pmt-type mood swings. Not great for a honeymoon!

Ktay · 19/12/2018 20:42

I wouldn’t bother for Christmas but I’m lucky to have light periods.

I used it prior to a holiday last year. Made me feel awful, was like a horrible combination of PMT, anxiety and depression for two weeks. I would say in my experience it ruined the holiday, but not sure how common those side effects are

girlsyearapart · 19/12/2018 20:44

I took it before a holiday it definitely worked but had an even heavier than normally heavy period afterward.
Would use it again though

cousineddie · 19/12/2018 20:45

I used it for a few months as prescribed by GP, it was absolutely awful - severe pain and flooding, never again!

pinkhorse · 19/12/2018 20:46

I've used it twice. Both times the next periods were horrific.

Teakind · 19/12/2018 20:49

I had terrible stomach pains when I took that. I wouldn’t use it again

Fireinthegrate · 19/12/2018 20:50

I used it for a holiday. It was awful. I would never use it again. It made me feel nauseous, very low and depressed. It ruined the holiday for me and actually having a period on holiday would ave been a better option on reflection.

TokyoSushi · 19/12/2018 20:51

It worked, but terrible mood swings/PMT which I don't usually have and horrific next period, I'd say only use it if you really have to!

whatsnewchoochoo · 19/12/2018 20:51

I used it a few times as teenager with no problems

BishopBrennansArse · 19/12/2018 20:52

I took it after bleeding non stop for an entire year while I waited for a hysteroscopy. Did the trick.

Celebelly · 19/12/2018 20:55

It was horrible for me. I took it for a holiday but ended up getting cramps just as bad as my actual period but with no bleeding. I ended up stopping a few days in as I would rather have just had a period and got it over with. I really felt dreadful.

I think if you're using it for a special occasion, do a test run first.

Hassled · 19/12/2018 21:00

I've been prescribed it to stop abnormal bleeds while on HRT (bleeds that were showing no sign of ever stopping) and while they did the job, they really badly affected my mood - to the extent that I'd have rather carried on bleeding for the foreseeable future. I spent a night anticipating the end of the world and the death of everyone I cared about - and then thankfully some part of my brain worked out it was the Norehisterone talking.

mynameiscalypso · 19/12/2018 21:02

I've taken it three or four times this year (mainly as part of IVF treatment). No side effects at all other than regulating my period.

AndSoSallyStillWaits · 19/12/2018 21:03

Definitely works. Have used it twice before while on holiday but felt a bit bloated, and PMT-tastic each time. I'd use it again to delay a period for a few days max, wouldn't do a week or more again. Faff to remember 3 pills a day, spacing them out etc.

Maryann1975 · 19/12/2018 21:03

I’ve had it a few times to delay my period while on holiday. I’ve never had a problem with it. My next period was a bit heavier as I remember, but not horrendous. I’d take it again.

MiddlingMum · 19/12/2018 21:04

I've used it to avoid periods on activity holidays - out in mountains all day, that sort of thing. No side effects whatsoever. No cramps, normal period 2 days after stopping taking it, no mood swings. Maybe I'm lucky, having read earlier replies.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 19/12/2018 21:16

I've taken it a few times. My periods have been normal afterward (but they're very heavy normally) I did however get a really bad headache for a couple of days after I stopped them.

It was still worth not having an horrendous period on holiday though.

Stephisaur · 19/12/2018 21:20

Used it on honeymoon, loved it.

Recommended dose was 3 tablets a day, but 1 a day was enough to delay my period. I took it in addition to my contraceptive pill.

FestiveLemur · 19/12/2018 22:29

It made me feel amazing while taking. Lots of energy and appetite. Then when coming off, the worst PMT of my entire life with crying and rages.

I wouldnt bother for christmas because the PMT was just so bad... but considering using it to "rearrange" my periods around my wedding.

DropZoneOne · 19/12/2018 22:33

I've taken it a couple of times when period is due over holidays. But i delay the prior month to move everything along a week or two. Otherwise, like others have said, you end up with an extra week of pmt, bloating etc

Blameitonthedog · 19/12/2018 22:37

I used it recently, it was great. No side effects, period was heavier after I stopped taking it. Would use again.

ChristineBaskets · 19/12/2018 22:40

I've used it a couple of times for holidays and it worked great with no side effects other than a slightly heavier period afterwards.

WildFlower2018 · 19/12/2018 22:48

I took it l for my wedding. The day after I stopped, I bawled for two days. My new husband probably thought i was a total nut job!

I don't even know if it was the pill's fault or just the post wedding blues. Probably a bit of both!
