How to pass the time while waiting for a phone call?

I had a job interview on Thursday for something that I really want to do and would be life changing. I'm currently unemployed and have developed some sort of anxiety around it. I was super confident on Thursday but she finished the interview with "it's going to be tough such great candidates you being one of them". Yes, I know thatst a ready made phrase, even Lord Sugar uses it a million times.... She was super happy and jumping like a bunny, she even showed me where my desk would be. But that phrase got stuck in my head. On Friday I was a mess (although just with my mum over the phone), Saturday was horrendous (I even had the first fight with my DP in 15 months together). Yesterday was better but not great. So here I am now waiting for the call... Any tips??

Today at some point. I keep job hunting but I find it demoralising... Hours spent on applications for not even getting a phone call. They're a constant reminder that even though I'm skilled and experienced for some.bizarre reason I simply don't get called.in for an interview.

clean out your cupboards, or one of them, quite satisfying

They still haven't called me ... Anxiety is so out of control that had to come back from my sales job

Hmm

Unemployed...in a sales job? So...

Heartofglass21 · 17/12/2018 14:38

I think you have to accept that you probably haven't been successful at this point - if you tell yourself you haven't got the job, then maybe the anxiety will dissipate. Alternatively, you could bite the bullet and contact them, so that at least you will know, one way or another.

You have been out at work doing a sales job despite being unemployed and waiting at home for a phone call Confused

ForgivenessIsDivine · 17/12/2018 14:43

Good luck. They might not get round to phoning so don't worry too much. If they don't phone today, call them tomorrow. Stay strong!!

Needadoughnut · 17/12/2018 14:50

It's a commission only job. I have no retainer nor job security. And to get paid minimum wage (well the equivalent for 8hrs) I have to work around 10. To DWP I count as unemployed and it isn't far from the truth.

Whether the OP is employed or unemployed is irrelevant. Maybe she works for an agency and doesn't have permanent employment, hence she considers herself unemployed? Waiting to find out whether you've been successful at interview is terrifying, especially if it's a job you really want. I went for an interview recently, and was told I'd be informed that afternoon. My phone rang at 2 minutes past 12 - and yes, I was lucky, new job starts in the New Year. But if I'd had to wait all afternoon, I'd have been a nervous wreck.

Needadoughnut · 17/12/2018 14:54

Thanks @heartofglass that's basically what it is :). They said they'd call me today and she's extremely responsive / punctual (hiring manager). I would think I'd definitely know today but the clock is ticking

Inform us on the outcomeSmile
Good luck!

Whether the OP is employed or unemployed is irrelevant

I would agree, but we weren't asking. Op volunteered the information. Anf with such a glaring inconsistency in so few posts, it does look suspicious. Mumsnet has its fair share of people that are less than genuine.

This is true, but I don't think this is a fake thread. She doesn't have twins, does she? Xmas Wink

Needadoughnut · 17/12/2018 15:11

I get the discrepancy but it's been clarified. I don't know what to call that income apart from a "job".

ElainaElephant · 17/12/2018 15:14

I'm not asking you to explain further. I was responding to the comment that someone else made that your employment status is irrelevant.

I was merely clarifying why it was absolutely relevant to query it.

madmum5811 · 17/12/2018 15:14

Maybe go through an agency who will do your cv for you. I am rubbish at doing a cv, luckily have a friend who knows all the tricks so does it for others.

Needadoughnut · 17/12/2018 15:31

@madmum I've had someone from some EU/Government funded employment scheme. Unfortunately, due to cuts and Brexit my agent was made redundant.

Needadoughnut · 17/12/2018 16:21

Still no phone call. This makes me.think I was second best and first option maybe snubbed them .

LittleLongDog · 17/12/2018 16:26

Oh Needadoughnut you have my absolute sympathy. Waiting for something like sends my anxiety whirling too.

How’re you doing?

Needadoughnut · 17/12/2018 16:38

Not great?? I know the hiring manager (from the contact I've had with her) and this is not how she normally behaves. She has answered emails within two hours for example. So I know she wouldn't let it go.this long without a reason.

OP posts:
Heartofglass21 · 17/12/2018 17:31

Any news? If she hasn't had the courtesy to let you know one way or another, then consider whether you really want to work for such a person. Keeping you on tenterhooks all day is really unfair.

Needadoughnut · 17/12/2018 17:38

Nothing, and I know that theoretically they've closed for today. Very odd and not like her (from what I know) at all. Unless the call comes from the agency, I had to apply through one, but she was who arranged the interview, so I think she'd give the good news too.

Heartofglass21 · 17/12/2018 17:41

Ah well, onwards and upwards. Get your next job application in and fingers crossed.
