What brands do your 16yo sons like?

Need a gift for a 16yo lad for christmas. Happy to do cash for birthdays but christmas Id like a "thing". Maybe about 20quid to spend.

I figured I could get a branded pair of socks or something - but no idea what brands a 16yo lad likes these days. Jack Wills too young. Paul Smith? Trying to sway away from spprts brands.

Thanks

Depends whether the parents have raised them to have taste or not!

A580Hojas · 12/12/2018 22:08

I have a 16 year old son and he is not very interested in branded consumables although if pressed he would choose something from Adidas. Sorry that doesn't help with your non-sports criterion.

mrspitt · 12/12/2018 22:09

North Face T-shirt that's on offer is under £20..better a branded pair of underpants than socks IMO...

My just turned 17 year old likes Supreme and Bape. He gets Primark and H&M. Oh, and the Big Les Show (weeps).

jocktamsonsbairn · 12/12/2018 22:11

Yep branded pants better!

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/12/2018 22:13

Mrspitt my son would not wear north face anything. He will wear nike trainers but mainly likes vans/salt rock stuff or things a bit more individual and quirky.

PouchofDouglas · 12/12/2018 22:14

Oh ffs. Give him cash

Vonvon222 · 12/12/2018 22:20

Ds 16 gets his clothes from Top Man and Boohoo Man. He likes Ted Baker boxers which I usually get from TK MAXX or Diesel socks from there. 2 pack for a tenner

iMum · 12/12/2018 22:23

My 17 year old isn't into brands at all and would actively avoid branded stuff-unless it's a band he is into....

frogintheTyne · 12/12/2018 22:24

mine likes Superdry

ernjas · 12/12/2018 22:27

The 16 year olds in my family only really wear Adidas/Nike/Lacoste

Furrycushion · 12/12/2018 22:30

One avoids brands & wears Primark jeans & band t shirts. The other wears Vans stuff

Processedpea · 12/12/2018 22:31

Agree cash my d's isn't into brands at all

AdelaideK · 12/12/2018 22:35

My 15 years old isn't into branded stuff either. He also doesn't wear black clothes.

His friends seem to wear Adidas, Nike and Superdry

BeanBagLady · 12/12/2018 22:37

Mine despise brands and logos on clothing.

But they like the ‘Bank if England’ brand.

Pinkyyy · 12/12/2018 22:40

Definitely not Jack wills or Paul Smith OP. EA7, north face, stone Island, Nike, or Adidas would all be happily received. I work with teens this age so I'm pretty up to date with what's 'in'

MsJolly · 12/12/2018 22:45

Vans/Adidas/Nike/super dry/hollister

PearlandRubies194 · 12/12/2018 22:47

@pinkyyy my (14 year old) son would agree with your list

And definitely underwear rather than socks

Therighthonourable · 12/12/2018 22:49

With adidas be sure to get "Adidas originals" and not just plain Adidas. They have a different logo.

claraschu · 12/12/2018 22:49

It really depends. Not all teen boys care about branded clothes, and the desirable brands vary depending on the group of kids you are in. Do you know what his interests are?

claraschu · 12/12/2018 22:51

Also, the brands that are cool for 14 year olds can be hopelessly naff for 16 year olds (I gather).

Pinkyyy · 12/12/2018 23:20

claraschu not really to be honest, they just get into more expensive brands the older they get

claraschu · 13/12/2018 04:53

Oh I am sure you are right Pinkyy... my kids are 23, 20 and 17, and this is what they have said to me, though.

So something like Superdry... my daughter told me a couple of years ago that her friends wouldn't think of wearing it, but all the 13 year olds think it's cool. It is certainly expensive enough...

I guess, I just want to warn the OP that cool for one age can be uncool for a slightly different age.

BreakfastAtLitanies · 13/12/2018 09:39

Until this autumn I would have said branded underwear better than socks HOWEVER

It's the latest thing to have your socks rolled right up displaying whichever cool brand it is. It's an actual trend. So I'd go socks over pants now.

Shadow1234 · 14/12/2018 08:10

Tbh, I think 16 year olds can be quite choosy about which brands they like (so its easy to get it wrong). My sons have very different tastes on brands, so I think maybe cash would be the best answer.
