The most beautiful love song ever....

For me, it has to be this, especially Chet Baker's version from the 1940s :
"I get along without you very well,
Of course I do,
Except to hear your name,

Or someone 's laugh that is the same....."
And the last lines:
"Except perhaps in Spring,
But I should never think of Spring,
For that would surely break my heart in two..."
It gets me every time! What song do you find beautiful?

Although in hindsight ‘straight to you’ by nick cave would have been an amazing first dance

NanTheWiser · 11/12/2018 22:20

Wasn't he, Clawdy! I saw him with the Walker Brothers as the support act to Roy Orbison, but they stole the show.
He hasn't aged well though...

Scott was very very handsome and with a great set of pipes! Scott 4 is amazing

upaladderagain · 11/12/2018 22:29

You’re still the one by Shania Twain. A perfect celebration of long term love.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 11/12/2018 23:00

So many on here chime with me. Our first dance at our wedding was o I can't Help Falling In Love With You, by Elvis. I love the Shania Twain song - Still the One and I also get very emotional at the rawness of Dolly Parton singing 'I will always love you '.

There is a light that never goes out, The Smiths

louella99 · 11/12/2018 23:02

Listen to it if you've never heard it

Angie by the Rolling stones (though possibly about Keith Richard's heroin addiction). Still a great song.

Clawdy · 12/12/2018 16:05

Also love A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square. "And as you turned and smiled at me....." Something about those older love songs!

I know nobody probably wanted this but I've made it anyway so may as well share it just in case. Here is a spotify playlist with almost every song from this thread on. It's missing about 10 or so because I just couldn't find them. I'm about 1/3 of the way through listening to it right now and there's been some tears.

HappyPunky · 13/12/2018 12:47

That's amazing!!!
I'm due a couple of hours to have a sit down soon so will give it a listen then x

Clawdy · 13/12/2018 13:07

That list is wonderful, thanks hormonallyspeaking

lifeinthesticks · 13/12/2018 14:28

@hormonallyspeaking, what a treat, thank you. I will be icing my Christmas cake listening to it.

Petalflowers · 13/12/2018 14:57

Hormonally. - thankmyou. Planning to wrap presents tonight, and think I may be listening to you playlist, rather than Christmas songs.

OneStepMoreFun · 13/12/2018 15:02

Hormonally thank you! I've just listened to a Paul Simon song I'd never heard before and Angie by the Stones, which I hadn't heard in years, then Beeswing which used to be DH's favourite love song. Wouldn't have listened to any of them if you hadn't made the list.

OneStepMoreFun · 13/12/2018 15:09

I've just remembered DS wore a leopard onesie to school at that age when it was a mufti day. Got a few comments and friendly teasing but he didn't give a monkeys what people thought.

Helmetbymidnight · 13/12/2018 15:16

Enjoy the silence - depeche mode

Only you - yazoo

Don’t give up - Kate bush and Pete Gabriel (it’s about other things too obvs, but her love for him shines thru)

In my life, and the long and winding road - Beatles

Helmetbymidnight · 13/12/2018 15:17

Ooh lovely list!
