The most beautiful love song ever....

Clawdy · 10/12/2018 15:50

For me, it has to be this, especially Chet Baker's version from the 1940s :
"I get along without you very well,
Of course I do,
Except to hear your name,

Or someone 's laugh that is the same....."
And the last lines:
"Except perhaps in Spring,
But I should never think of Spring,
For that would surely break my heart in two..."
It gets me every time! What song do you find beautiful?

@Dontsweatthelittlestuff
I live 'blower's daughter' too but isn't the last line whispered 'until I meet someone new'?

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 11/12/2018 14:45

The other mum yes it is but I still think it is a beautiful song.

I think it is a bit weird those mums who think First time ever I saw your face is suitable for when they first saw their babies face. When the third verse starts “and when the first time Ever I lay with you”
It is a beautiful song but it is clearly about romantic love not paternal.
My husband and I chose it together to be the opening song for his funeral.

When we drove my newborn son home from hospital, "From this moment" by Shania came on the radio and I was a blubbering mess lol.

NanTheWiser · 11/12/2018 15:00

Nope, sorry LaDaronne, I had an enormous crush on Scott Walker back in the Sixties (I am old...), so Scott's version will always be my fave. (I'm sure Clawdy will remember him!)

AviatorShades · 11/12/2018 15:15

Don'tsweatthesmallstuff-your username seems particularly apt!Wink
I robustly defend First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, even the the opening line of the third verse...

After my baby had been taken away, checked over and cleaned up, to be returned wearing his first babygro, to lay with me? I still remember that wonderment...

So, for me, that Roberta Flack song is, truly, my most beautiful songSmile

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 11/12/2018 15:21

Aviator I agree it is one of the most beautiful songs ever but for completely different reasons.

Have you ever heard the original folk version sung by Peggy Seeger?
And even though it is the same song I don’t like it at all.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 11/12/2018 15:24

Probably my favourite and brings back so many happy memories.

Wishing on a star by Rose Royce

LaDaronne · 11/12/2018 15:34

ach Nan it's but a pale imitation of the original but go on, I'll let you off ;-)

cookielove · 11/12/2018 15:55

Nashville - Longer
Nashville - Wake me when its over (although is really about a break up)
Nashville - as the crow flies
Finneas - break my heart again (again breaking up but so beautiful)

willywillywillywilly · 11/12/2018 16:27

@purplegoat beat me to it with Gorecki by Lamb
If I should die this very moment
I wouldn't fear
For I've never known completeness
Like being here
Wrapped in the warmth of you
Loving every breath of you
Still my heart this moment
Oh it might burst
Could we stay right here
Till the end of time until the earth stops turning
Wanna love you until the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for
All this time I've loved you
And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs
Wanna stay right here
Till the end of time
Till the earth stops turning
Gonna love you until the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for

HermioneWeasley · 11/12/2018 16:34

I would go for Annie’s Song, but wife has voted for “if I didn’t have you” by Tim Minchin

EducatingSweary · 11/12/2018 16:36

Grow Old With Me, Tom Odell

Kaybush · 11/12/2018 17:12

@LanaLily11 I just love Waiting for a Star to Fall - I'd completely forgotten about it, but I've saved it on Spotify now! It's really joyous and melancholy all at the same time.

Maria, I just met a girl named Maria.......
does it for me every time I hear it.

Hellomatey001 · 11/12/2018 20:31

Groovy kind of love- I used to sing the beginning to my newborn daughter:

"When I'm feeling blue
All I have to do
Is take a look at you
Then I'm not so blue

When you're close to me
I can feel your heart beat
I can hear you breathing in my ear
Wouldn't you agree
Baby you and me got a groovy kind of love"

Blub blub....

Petalflowers · 11/12/2018 20:40

maria

Jess - have you heard this rendition of Maria sang by Rob Houchon on a tv programme about musicals? It’s superb and well worth listening too.

Petalflowers · 11/12/2018 20:42

Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Year’s

Not a convential love song, but I love the story told in it.

Bunnymumma · 11/12/2018 20:43

Forever by Dennis Wilson. It's our song and the most wonderful piece of music I've ever heard. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes and makes me feel so lucky to have my DH.

OneOfTheGrundys · 11/12/2018 20:50

Everlong, Foo Fighters.
‘Breathe out/so I can breathe you in.

Do you realise? Flaming Lips. Makes me cry!

ForgiveMeFatherForIHaveGinned · 11/12/2018 20:51

Talking Heads - This must be the place.

“And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead” - chokes me up every time!

EastMidsGPs · 11/12/2018 21:00

Bit of a cheesy one

^I can be your hero baby,
I can kiss away the pain,
I will stand by you forever,
You can take my breath away^

Steady on, Enriques Grin

ChewyLouie · 11/12/2018 21:09
