Costa or Starbucks?

Never been one to think of popping in somewhere to have a coffee but I did yesterday as I was tired, cold and my train was hours away. I had some fancy caramel thingy. Oh my word... it was amazing! But I think both shops can be a little on the pricey side.

Which one is better? Do they both have reward \ point cards?

@Pakulette

Witnessed it myself.

Big kick off with manager quoting company guidelines.

Pretty sure it did make the papers.

Think everyone in the queue left and.customers in shop were quite shocked.

Oh no Sparkling I was going to treat myself to one this week! Bugger.

A downside of McD's coffee these days is that as I'm remembering to take my lovely reusable cup I miss out on the stickers towards my free ones!

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2018 19:46

It tastes ok tellme but it has a lid on so it can never look like the pic, it has an inch or so of the 'cream' floating on the top. Grin

Much prefer Starbucks!

LEMtheoriginal · 09/12/2018 19:57

Neither - much prefer micro roasteries.

However i do like neros.

AGHHHH · 09/12/2018 19:58

Starbucks.

imonlyherefortheAIBU · 09/12/2018 19:59

Much prefer costa over a Starbucks

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 09/12/2018 19:59

Hmmmm and I bet they wouldn't do it lid free for "helf n safety " Wink

It's the one time of year I conveniently forget how much I sneer at the monstrosity that is coffee with syrup and cream shit. Then I revert back once I've finished it and feel slightly sick and realise I've had most of my calorie intake for the week. In a coffee!

littletortoise · 09/12/2018 20:05

Starbucks - I had a period of going to costa for months and loved it but since I started going to Starbucks I much prefer Starbucks. I find costa much too sweet and Starbucks is much more flavourful.

Butternutsqoosh · 09/12/2018 20:07

Starbucks but I am in the States at least 3 times a month so that's probably why!

Buffyj · 09/12/2018 20:11

Costa. I absolutely hate the people in Starbucks asking my name.

Redtartanshoes · 09/12/2018 20:12

Between the 2 Costa every time. Cortado if sitting in, flat white with extra shot if take away.

Ageee with PP that Macdonald’s do a nice coffee for £1.89 for a flat white.

Also... controversially... Greggs flat white is good... in Scotland you can get a flat white for £1.90.... or for 10p extra a bacon or sausage roll. It’s practically free!

anniehm · 09/12/2018 20:17

Whatever is convenient, chain shops really don't have much between them to be honest. I usually get my coffee from McDonald's if I'm in the car as it has a drive through!

goose1964 · 09/12/2018 20:18

neither, Starbucks is horrendously expensive and Costa is brown water, the best coffee I've had from a chain has been coffee#1, where they sell different types of coffee not just the same coffee with varying flavourings.milk etc

Fairylightfurore · 09/12/2018 20:19

Prefer my local independent one but definitely Costa out of those two, much better everything and no cringeworthy name on cups!

stottiecake · 09/12/2018 20:21

May i just say that Greggs do a coffee and sausage/ bacon buttie for 2 quid until 11.30 am every day and their coffee is just as good as anyones' and its cheaper AND YOU GET A BACON BUTTIE? got me through my placement it did.

Athena51 · 09/12/2018 20:29

Caffe Nero or Starbucks for me. I don't mind Costa but it's my least favourite.

Idlikeabunchofbananasplease · 09/12/2018 20:35

I prefer the coffee from Costa I like they coffee better. Find Starbucks coffee too strong and bitter. Your right it is pricey I keep it as a treat.

pontiouspilates · 09/12/2018 20:44

Independent by preference, failing that Nero, Costa if pushed and never Starbucks.

TheBubGrower · 09/12/2018 20:55

Another one surprised by how many people are saying costa. Their coffee tastes of nothing! Especially the latte, it's like brown milk. Obviously loved by people who don't really know how coffee should taste/don't actually like coffee as they are saying Starbucks is too bitter. Coffee IS bitter 🤣 Also costa always serve it waaaay too hot and they are generally minging places to be. Costa toilets are without fail always really incredibly filthy. Nero is far superior to both, they do a nice strong coffee and their blended iced coffees are the best. Would always choose an independent given the choice though

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2018 20:58

Our Nero is horrible inside, but the Costas are very clean. Must depend on each store.

There's also a drive through Starbucks and a drive through Costa but I can't do drive throughs. Blush

brizzledrizzle · 09/12/2018 21:21

Starbucks because the queue at the university Costa is always huge but there is never a queue at Starbucks. Starbucks do a lovely toffee nut latte.

HarrysMummy17 · 09/12/2018 21:21

I used to work for Starbucks and loved their coffee. Especially the Christmas drinks. But only if it's made correctly. It irritated the hell out of me when staff didn't make the drinks right. The shots of coffee only last 10 seconds before they go bitter. The milk or water needs to be added before the 10 seconds is up to save the shot. I hate going to Starbucks now and watch them make my drink knowing it's going to taste bitter.
I don't like near a Starbucks not so costa is our coffee stop shop. They have improved in recent years.

animaginativeusername · 09/12/2018 22:01

Always Costa, Nero or any independent. tried Starbucks once and it was awful.

lizzie1970a · 09/12/2018 22:12

I put Starbucks on my banned list years ago because of its tax affairs in the UK:

www.ft.com/content/4d85c99c-bb44-11e8-8274-55b72926558f

I won't be going back, ever. I think Costa has some tax scandals too. They make so much money over here yet twist things to avoid paying the full amount of corporation tax. I can't support that.
