Costa or Starbucks?

Never been one to think of popping in somewhere to have a coffee but I did yesterday as I was tired, cold and my train was hours away. I had some fancy caramel thingy. Oh my word... it was amazing! But I think both shops can be a little on the pricey side.

Which one is better? Do they both have reward \ point cards?

100% Starbucks

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 09/12/2018 18:13

Indie or Nero as PP said is better than both and actually serve Nice Coffee, however if it's one of those two only I'd say Starbucks if you actually like coffee and their house blend filter is really good, cheap compared to those bloody awful concoctions people have with milk, syrup and shit in (why not just have an ice cream sundae?). Plus you get free refills!

If however your more into the Mellow Birds coffee experience then Costas the place!

Yup, I'm a coffee snob Wink

Also for the £ McDonald's is a very decent cup of coffee too

Going against popular choice, but Starbucks for me. Then Nero. I normally have a flat white with a syrup. Also Starbucks does a nice risotto and they do luxury fruit toast, which is heavenly.
Nero coffee is wonderful but just not as widespread as Starbucks or Costa. And as previously said McD flat white is good for a pick me up!!

MeetOnTheSIedge · 09/12/2018 18:24

Nero then Costa for me. I'd rather go without than drink Starbucks coffee.

BulletWithABun · 09/12/2018 18:28

Starbucks is vile, bitter and most often badly made coffee!
Costa is better coffee in my opinion, but not perfect. I would always choose a non chain coffee shop if there was one available. I like trying different ones to try and find a really good one.

richierichardsaunt · 09/12/2018 18:34

Haven't used Starbucks since they refused to serve a few people in uniform after laying wreaths on armistice day in London.
Apparently, uniforms will upset many so they won't serve those who serve.

Arseholes.

Sitranced · 09/12/2018 18:34

Nero or an indie. Starbucks tastes bitter and Costa is far too weak.

AbsentmindedWoman · 09/12/2018 18:38

Nero or Starbucks or Pret. Not keen on Costa. But realistically will drink coffee from anywhere when in need!

Costa is bloody everywhere though. Have no idea why it's the most popular.

NotMyCircusMonkeys · 09/12/2018 18:38

Costa, except always Starbucks for a strawberry and cream Frappuccino.

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 09/12/2018 18:39

I tend to go to Starbucks as I get a discount. I think they're pretty much the same to be honest. Although Starbucks mocha is nicer than Costa's.

stopdropandroll · 09/12/2018 18:41

out of the 2 you mentioned, definitely costa as they have marshmallows and starbucks don’t. i only drink hot chocolate, don’t like coffee and make herbal tea for myself at home.

Have you got a link? A quick Google threw up nothing

ivykaty44 · 09/12/2018 18:59

I don’t like the taste of costa coffee, like there hot chocolate a lot.

Like Starbucks coffee but don’t rate the hotchoc

I think it’s personal and nothing wrong with either apart from the price!

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/12/2018 19:04

Neither, they both serve awful coffee.

I went into an independent coffee shop in Dartmouth. It was like drinking champagne after a lifetime of fizzy grape juice. There were so many flavours in one latte. It was empty. If I lived there I would be in regularly.

Further out of town is a Costa. It was packed. Literally rammed serving mass produced muffins and too hot coffee made with robusta beans. It’s like we’ve all been conned into thinking coffee is meant to taste so one dimensional.

DoveSecret · 09/12/2018 19:05

Never been in a starbucks. My local is over 60 miles away. Costa in town and ive been in ince. Prefer a Nescafe Azera at home.

Reallybadidea · 09/12/2018 19:12

There's a 24 hour Costa at work so I tend to go there when I need caffeine in the middle of the night. I think that's made me feel more familiar with them so I tend to go there out of habit. No independent coffee shops in my local town as far as I know, so it's a choice between Costa and Gregg's when I'm shopping.

Racecardriver · 09/12/2018 19:12

Sorry but costa is vile. I don’t understand how it is still in business. Starbucks coffee is pretty bad too but at least it is ok inside (unlike costa which looks like it was interior designed by a twelve year old in 2002). Andstarbucks is actually good for the obscenely sugary drinks like the one you describe. At the moment they have a toffee nut late that you would probably like. Cafe Nero is good if you like old fashioned very strong coffee with less milk than standard. I wouldn’t recommend it in general though. If you ever see a coffee republic somewhere do yourself a favour and have a coffee, the only example of a good chain coffee shop I can think of (apart from lean pantry but they aren’t everywhere).

Cherries101 · 09/12/2018 19:13

Apart from Taylors, Starbucks is definitely superior for sweet coffees. However Costa baristas are better trained to give you more plain coffee options.

Racecardriver · 09/12/2018 19:14

Pret is also ok.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/12/2018 19:27

Costa...a good caramel macchiato from Starbucks can sway me though

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2018 19:28

I would go to Costa if I had a choice of the two, but smallish chain Coffee #1 if there was one.

I know it's all about the coffee but Starbucks tea is revolting. Tastes like it's got a squirt of anti bacterial handwash in.

The Millionaires Latte in McDonalds looked promising in the picture but a bit disappointing in RL.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/12/2018 19:28

Starbucks

Hate the others

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2018 19:29

It does NOT look like this.

Costa or Starbucks?
Grinchly · 09/12/2018 19:30

Indie coffee shop all the way.
