Do you make your bed every day?

Just wondering as I've realised I don't feel organised for the day if I don't make mine before I leave the house!

Never make it, just don't see the point when I'm going to get in it at night and mess it up! Grin

Heartofglass12345 · 08/12/2018 21:44

I just fold the quilt back to the end of the bed. I don't bother making it as the door is closed and I don't usually see it until I'm getting back into it in the night Grin

SD1978 · 08/12/2018 21:45

Nope. Think about it. But don't have a 'styled' bedroom so don't usually bother. Do sometimes, and can't say it changes my mood or motivation for the day whether it's made or not. Also don't have 'fashion' pillows on it. Only two each. Not a collection of 13 which need to be artfully rearranged everyday!!!

mineofuselessinformation · 08/12/2018 21:46

Yes, but I have to say I move very little in my sleep so literally have to flip the covers back and it looks neat again.

LuluJakey1 · 08/12/2018 21:46

When I get up I fold the duvet back. Making the bed is the last thing I do - after I have showered, dressed, got DD and DS ready. Then I make the beds.

TheFaerieQueene · 08/12/2018 21:46

Of course. It takes a couple of minutes. Spiders will get in otherwise 😈

GirlCroosh · 08/12/2018 21:47

I don't make it I pull the duvet back and air it. Takes no time, stops it being messy and keeps sheets fresh.

lucysmam · 08/12/2018 22:36

I shake & fold the duvet back as I get dressed, and put the pillows & my two teddies from the girls back.

Usually make it properly just before heading to work at lunchtime, when I go round shutting the windows.

DeadBod · 08/12/2018 22:43

I find it hard to u understand how people can't be bothered. Surely most people have a duvet? In which case, it literally takes seconds to put into place.
I also make the bed before I leave a hotel room even though I know it's going to be changed. A tidy room can be checked easier for any items that might get left behind.

lazymare · 08/12/2018 23:10

I shower downstairs and dress downstairs. Even if working from home I don't really go upstairs during the day. I almost forget I have an upstairs! I was much tidier when we had a bungalow.

Plus I always seem to end up dumping laundry baskets on the bed.

And as explained I hate out bedroom so just don't care.

JaiNotJay · 08/12/2018 23:16

I only make it when I'm changing the sheets or leaving the house to go on holiday, so any burglars can be impressed by my housekeeping skills. Wink

ImogenTubbs · 08/12/2018 23:18

Deadbod - we have sheets, blankets and a bedspread so a bit more of a faff, but that's not why I don't do it. I just find I don't care about that and didn't when I had a duvet either.

MadamePeony · 08/12/2018 23:20

Yes and with precision.
Sheets get washed at least once a week also.
I feel like the room looks untidy otherwise.

EnidButton · 08/12/2018 23:20

I fold the duvet and throws over to the bottom of the bed, smooth the bottom sheet and plump the pillows up. Then open the window for at least 10, unless it's peeing it down like today. Gives it an airing.

I read a brilliant list of 'cottage rules' from, I think, the late 1800's and they were very big on airing things.

Justbackfromnewwine · 08/12/2018 23:21

Nope

Didsomeonesaybunny · 08/12/2018 23:23

I couldn’t leave the house if I didn’t

EnidButton · 08/12/2018 23:25

Oh I found it, Cottage regulations from 1831

Ohyesiam · 08/12/2018 23:25

I always air it, and if I go back into my room later in the day I make it.

Sweepington · 08/12/2018 23:28

I try to, I 100% do if I know my sister is coming round as she is a total stickler for it. She calls it the first win of the day and I have to agree I feel better for having it made.

JehovahsMistresses · 08/12/2018 23:31

Can't physically go down the stairs if the bedrooms and bathroom haven't been done. Each morning I open the windows fully whatever the weather to air the rooms out, make beds and take any cups/washing downstairs for the day. I also give the loo a squirt of bleach and wipe down the sink and toilet seat each morning while getting washed and brushing my (and kids) teeth. Takes me 10 minutes to do but it sets me in a better mood and I feel more productive in the day. I can't focus otherwise.

Those who don't make their beds, don't the rooms look messy and make your brain feel chaotic?? How good does it feel to be able to leave a crumpled duvet on a heap on the bed and just not worry about it for the entire day? Asking for an OCD friend Grin

elephantoverthehill · 08/12/2018 23:33

I've just sank back into the 1970's. The big thing was the continental quilt/snug. You didn't have to 'make beds' with sheets and blankets, you just shook it and went. And now this has become a thing?

lazymare · 08/12/2018 23:41

Don't be daft. You just choose not to.

Bixilet · 08/12/2018 23:44

The room is clean so it doesn't feel particularly messy, my brain just kind of thinks, why bother I will be getting into it later rather then this feels chaotic! I accept I'm in the minority on this though!

ja9r · 08/12/2018 23:44

Yes! The minute I get out of it. Think it's really important. It makes a big tidy space in my otherwise messy room. Straight away I've accomplished something... and it brings a bit of order to my mind and my room and my day!

MeetOnTheSIedge · 09/12/2018 00:06

Not really, I just turn back the duvet and leave it all day to air. The pillows don't shift out of place in the night and are microfibre so don't need plumping or straightening. The duvet seems to stay in its cover ok so doesn't need shaking. Sheets are fitted and don't budge either. I wouldn't leave it un a crumpled heap though.
