Happy to provide backstory if required!

Cashmere jumpers. Nice ones from Brora, not cheap ones from Tesco.

What’s the backstory?

TattiePants · 06/12/2018 23:37

An annual subscription (beauty box, luxury foodstuff, alcohol?) that they wouldn't usually treat themselves to.

Sweepington · 06/12/2018 23:38

Kate Spade handbag?

BertrandRussell · 06/12/2018 23:43

Backstory is that mil, an excellent present chooser, suddenly feels incapable of shopping ( legitimately- significant health deterioration sine last year and nursing dying partner) and has asked me to buy stuff. She doesn’t want to tell her grandchildren she’s not up to it yet- they adore her and will be sad- so ....that’s why I need ideas!

How old are they? Young man/woman can mean anything from 12-32 on MN 🤣

What did she buy them last Christmas?

ChishandFips33 · 06/12/2018 23:48

Does the young woman like jewellery - there was some amazing kinetic stuff on another thread

Leather jacket - All saints sale may have something in price range

Young man - tech? Bluetooth headphones/speaker/Alexa type thing
What does YM like?

Sillybilly1234 · 06/12/2018 23:58

Ask what she would buy and buy it for her. You said yourself she is great at deciding what to buy.

SleepingBooty · 07/12/2018 00:00

Nice sunglasses.

Leeds2 · 07/12/2018 00:01

My 20 year old DD would love most things from All Saints.

I know that one of her friends would like a Michael Kors handbag. Another would like Doc Martens!

Blondielongie · 07/12/2018 00:03

How old?

Justlikedevon · 07/12/2018 00:12

Need ages. Im thinking 20. Woman - make up, accessories, boots, bag. Man - coat, watch.

anniehm · 07/12/2018 00:17

Does she internet shop - might be a bit of light relief for her to be shown how to buy online

BoswellandForshort · 07/12/2018 00:36

Nice candles- Diptyque/ Jo Malone
Depending on age, the 20-something girls I know are all about their Michael Kors/ Olivia Burton watches
Mid-range handbag- You can get some nice Kate Spade ones around £150- £200

For the man, maybe a nice wallet?

BertrandRussell · 07/12/2018 07:01

Sorry-ages. She is 22, he's 17.

She can internet shop- but she really doesn't have the head space. We're happy to do it for her. It's fun spending other people's money!

A nice handbag for the young woman and a nice wallet and maybe a nice leather wallet for the guy.

Is there anything they're into, any hobbies or interests?

ohtheholidays · 07/12/2018 09:42

Sorry that should of said Leather wallet and leather belt for the man.

Reaa · 07/12/2018 09:44

Kindle, amazon voucher, nice kindle case and a fast charger.

Reaa · 07/12/2018 09:47

If 17 year old into gaming I would look at Razor keyboard, headphones and mouse with mouse mat.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/12/2018 09:48

17 - one of those amazing huge Lego sets, if it's something he'd like
Or big headphones and an Amazon voucher

22 - a bag and a pile of Mac or Benefit stuff

ClemClemFandango · 07/12/2018 10:13

Have a look on Facebook/Insta and so on and 'research' the two recipients, the photos on there could be a good guide to their likes/dislikes.

Going by my young adult, I'd definitely include a voucher of some kind (Amazon for mine), especially for the 17yr old, so that they can choose something themselves too.

BertrandRussell · 07/12/2018 11:50

Are the Snythson diaries worth the money? Well, obviously they can't possibly be actually worth the money, but are they significantly lovely? Has anyone ever touched one?

OP posts:
TheSpottedZebra · 07/12/2018 11:57

Smythson diaries feel luxurious, but honestly they're not a thing for the Internet generation. Also, it's a bit of a brand for older people.

What do these people do/like ?

nooddsocksforme · 07/12/2018 11:57

Wouldn’t buy any kind of diary for people that age . They will use an electronic diary. Something from Kate spade for the 22 year old . ? Wireless speaker for 17 year old with voucher .

TheSpottedZebra · 07/12/2018 11:57

The grandchildren I mean - what do they do and like?

allyourcats · 07/12/2018 12:01

My lovely Granny who passed this year always gave my brother and I money from when we turned 18. It was always most appreciated. (Will miss it this year! But not more than I'll miss her.)
