Smythson are nice but not worth the money. I think a handbag or some lovely perfume from Penhaligons.

BertrandRussell · 07/12/2018 12:08

If all else fails we'll just give them the money. But mil would prefer it to be a present, so I'll keep trying! Dd does actually use a paper diary and loves stationery and has just started her first proper job, which is why I though maybe Smythson. Looking at All Saints too.....

Apple AirPods - Bluetooth wireless earpieces for phones/listening to music/watching films/gaming etc. They are beautiful, stylishly packaged, incredibly good quality, practical and super on trend. And if they don’t like them they can sell them on EBAY. But I bet they will like them, so far this year we have been bought/given them to people from 17-60.

What about a Space NK voucher for the 22year old

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/12/2018 12:14

My dd works in an office and loves Moleskine notebooks - maybe a couple of those and a fountain pen as part of the present? Or maybe a Tiffany necklace?

QueenofallIsee · 07/12/2018 12:17

My teen lads are having Beats headphones - they are a few 100 quid and they are desperate for them

Sunisshining5346 · 07/12/2018 12:29

Is the 22 year old trendy? Into fashion, make up? Can help with that one.. but the boy..no idea!

Nice long riding boots for the YW?

I quite often stroke luxury leather stationery, it’s all much of a muchness once it’s real leather I think. Lucrin do some nice stuff online and it’s customisable colour wise. I’d want something I could reuse from year to year - assume you mean a dairy with inserts. Paper planners seem to be a big thing for young people.

Cult Pens are good for stationery you can’t get everywhere else. If either of them like a nice pen I’d highly recommend the Pilot retractable fountain pens, nice nibs and somehow make the pen much more practical.

I know nothing about YM but I would have considered 200 quid’s worth of books a luxury at that age! Not sure I would have wanted someone else choosing them though.

My DC would not like to be bought candles, handbags, jewellery or leather jackets. They would be a complete waste of money. They would have to pretend to be delighted with them and then have to wear/ use them .

Can't you ask them what they would like. It's such a waste to buy things for them to not be used (unless you are happy to give them a gift receipt with the gift)
I don't like to give gift vouchers and prefer to give cash but if your friend does t want to give cash then vouchers are usually appreciated.

Headphones/ speakers aren't a bad call.

witchmountain · 07/12/2018 13:08

Oh, maybe a Planck Wallet. Packs money and cards down thinner than a normal wallet. Not luxurious exactly but clever and understated and the kind of thing you wouldn't spend 60 euros on at 17.

keeganface · 07/12/2018 13:29

What about an limitless cinema subscription. Its about £18 a month or cheaper if you buy upfront. And they can visit cinema as many times as they like all year. My hubby has one and he loves it

Winlinbin · 07/12/2018 18:20

My DDs are regularly given branded luxury leather goods by a very generous aunt. They cost a small fortune. They thank her nicely in person or in a note and then sell them on Ebay the following year. It is almost impossible to buy the right accessory for a fashion conscious teen or young adult as their fashion tastes are very distinct from the middle aged or elderly.

ChishandFips33 · 07/12/2018 18:36

Are they your children? What dirt if things are they into

Trainers for YM
Drone or RC helicopter or car
Is he learning to drive?
Adventure day
Cinema pass

YW - Makeup voucher or spa day
Nice work bag - what job is she doing?

C8H10N4O2 · 08/12/2018 11:17

What do they like? Would theatre or concert tickets fit the bill?

As our kids got older we sometimes pooled DGP gift money for a group outing to a place or event.

One year used it for a box at the Albert Hall big enough for us plus all the kids and partners and we added on dinner after. It was expensive but the kids sent pictures of the evening and their DGM loved the idea that she had supplied a fantastic family evening out which would not otherwise have happened.

I came on to say apple airpods but someone has beaten me to it! Paul Smith stripe wallet and Ted Baker handbag?
