All these years I've thought it was this but just realised it's "Oh bring us some figgy pudding" duh anyone else misheard lyrics?

OP posts:
DarcieStarlight · 08/12/2018 19:58

Until just the other day I thought that the Xmas Coca Cola advert lyrics were "how many days are coming" not "holidays are coming".
My friend laughed his head off when he realised and corrected me. I can't ever sing it the right way because I've sang it the wrong way so many years.

DarcieStarlight · 08/12/2018 20:03

Oh, I also thought that the lyrics to Lady Gagas poker face were "cherry pie, cherry pie" instead of "cant read my".

My mum thought the lyrics to Plan B's song 'Begging' were "Peggy, Peggy Suuuueee".

HelloGabriel · 08/12/2018 20:13

'Mary gladly waits her call, in the nuclear fallout zone'.

Confused
ThisUsernameSucks · 08/12/2018 20:14

@HelloGabriel god, what is it then? I've always sung that GrinBlush

HelloGabriel · 08/12/2018 20:17

Oh and also thought Wham were singing about 'crowded room, friends in tie-dye'Grin

HelloGabriel · 08/12/2018 20:18

Apparently it's 'Mary Bradley waits at home' @ThisUsernameSucks Grin

Yep, I did this too, but from The Four Seasons version (I had found out by the time the Plan B version came out!). Blush

"Oh, what fun it is to ride on a one horse slope and sleigh.
How that would work, I don't know, but until a few years ago I was singing this, my dh thinks it's so funny.

AlliKaneErikson · 10/12/2018 02:34

I was a Sunday School teacher in my teens and one of the little kids in my class thought it went ‘Brown John Virgin mother and child’ in Silent Night!

Livingthedream12345 · 10/12/2018 07:33

My DD (6) sings 'zinger zanger' instead of 'sing Hosannah'...Grin

MattMagnolia · 10/12/2018 07:36

Going back a bit, a faggot was a bundle of firewood.

RomanyRoots · 10/12/2018 14:57

I just remembered another Grin
My ds used to sing "Sindy, Alan, a wonderful for Christmas Time" The Paul McCartney song.

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 10/12/2018 17:54

DD1 used to sing "Away in a manger, no crisps in the bed"

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 10/12/2018 17:58

I'm also another one who misheard Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. I totally heard it as "later we'll have some fucking crap" instead of "pumpkin pie." I didn't think pumpkin pie was a Christmas thing?

I thought it was, 'humadays are coming, humadays are coming,' until I sheepishly asked what it actually said. Xmas Blush

That did make me chuckle. Xmas Grin

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 10/12/2018 21:38

I've always sang sticky pudding!!

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 10/12/2018 21:39

Good tidings we bring to you and your king’ (only just found out it’s kin).
Nope, always thought king too!!

3out · 10/12/2018 21:54

Not a song, but our DS’s teacher was just about hicksing with laughter telling us about when she asked the class what the baby who was born at Christmas was called. DS (5) apparently told her the baby was called Davy Jones

Our daughter thinks the words to Away in a Manger are simply ‘a mange-el a mange-el’

3catsandcounting · 10/12/2018 23:17

@DarcieStarlight
I thought 'Pokerface' was 'bomb the bass' (even though I knew the song title was Pokerface. Blush

Fluffyears · 10/12/2018 23:31

I always thought ‘hosanna in excelsis’ was ‘hosanna is in chelsea’

GallicosCats · 11/12/2018 00:25

We always used to giggle slightly at 'Heat was in the very sod...' And hands up who knows the alternative words to Jingle Bells?

Penguin13 · 11/12/2018 05:11

My nearly 4yo DD has been cracking me up this week with her phonetic approach to lyrics which is approximate at best. We get 'jingle all the way, olka far inkle reikal... hey!'

ThumpityThumpThump · 11/12/2018 12:29

romany i too used to sing 'sindy, alan, wonderful christmas time' - there is a chance i was well into my 20s before i realised!!

the first time i heard 'rocking around the christmas tree' was in the film home along, so rather than 'voices singing, let be jolly' i heard 'Buzz is singing...' which is the name of Kevin's big brother....made sense at the time!

SlowlyShrinking · 11/12/2018 12:31

‘Jingle balls, jingle balls, jingle balls away!’ My dc’s version 🎶

Imnotswallowingthat · 11/12/2018 12:39

My DS used to nag me to put the "scaffold song" on in the car. Took me ages to work out he meant Skyfall by Adele. Mind, it does sound like she is singing "when I scaaaaffoooooold...."
