A bit of a WWYD - but I’ve made my choice.

I’m just interested to hear what you would do in this situation.

I work closely with a colleague. I was placing an order with a company. She wanted something from them too so I combined the orders to get free postage.
When it arrived they had sent my my item twice. I contacted them and they said keep it. My colleague said that she would like it.

She earns half what I do. She is 15 years younger and is at a different point in her life.
The item is only £10 which isn’t a lot of money to me.

Do you give her the item or charge her half?

OP posts:

Give her the item. It didn’t cost you anything and it’s a kind thing to do.

Preeeep · 06/12/2018 13:18

If they've said keep it I'd give it to her, what would you charge her half of, it was free!

Izzabellasasperella · 06/12/2018 13:19

I'd give it to her. Not sure why you would charge her half when it cost you nothing.

WoogleCone · 06/12/2018 13:19

Charge her? For something you didn't pay for?Hmm

RNBrie · 06/12/2018 13:19

If you have no use for it then give it to her for free. Charging her would be weird.

HarrySnotter · 06/12/2018 13:19

I would give it to her of course.

Quartz2208 · 06/12/2018 13:20

The problem is charging her means you got your for half price

If you dont want it give it to her

PinkHeart5914 · 06/12/2018 13:20

I’d just give it to her

AnneTwackie · 06/12/2018 13:20

You already have one so don’t need another? Let her have it. It would be mean to charge her £5!

empmalswa · 06/12/2018 13:22

You don’t need it. You didn’t pay for postage. You didn’t pay for the item.

Just give her it. Would anybody actually consider charging someone under these circumstances?

FrostyMoanyWind · 06/12/2018 13:22

I would give it to her, wishing her a Merry Christmas as I did!

From the other side, I'd have asked how much you'd give it to me for, not asked outright.

Flambola · 06/12/2018 13:23

I'd just give it to her. What have you decided to do?

NoSquirrels · 06/12/2018 13:24

Give it to her. Don't profit off it!

IHeartKingThistle · 06/12/2018 13:25

Totally give it to her. I'm presuming she's nice and didn't ask in a nasty way!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 06/12/2018 13:36

Give it to her. You’re not out of pocket.

KittensAndChristmasCake · 06/12/2018 13:37

The item is only £10 which isn’t a lot of money to me.

And you got it free.
Really, you even have to ask? 😲

RatRolyPoly · 06/12/2018 13:40

I usually hate it when people call reverse on a thread, but surely someone wants to charge you half for an item they got for free OP? I can't see how someone as reasonable as your first post makes you seem would be considering it Confused

Drogosnextwife · 06/12/2018 13:44

You want yo charge her a fiver for something you got for free, come on now, don't be a twat. Must be a reverse

beachysandy81 · 06/12/2018 13:45

Well I would give it for free if money is no issue for me.

If I was hard up, I would charge half price so we are both getting the same thing for half price which is also fair.

starkid · 06/12/2018 13:48

Give it to her of course :)

ApolloandDaphne · 06/12/2018 13:51

Surely you would give it to her? Why would you want to profit from this?

minisoksmakehardwork · 06/12/2018 14:55

You benefitted from her order by receiving free postage. She benefits from your order by receiving the free item.

Admittedly I wouldn't have thought to ask in your shoes but she did. What would you have done with it if she hadn't asked?

If it's easier, tell her you were going to donate the extra item to charity and do it.

TheCrowFromBelow · 06/12/2018 14:56

Why on earth would you charge her for something you got free and don’t want?

DotForShort · 06/12/2018 15:00

Why would you even think of charging her? Give it to her by all means.

PhaedrasChocolate · 06/12/2018 15:05

It wouldn't even occur to me to charge her, and I'm always skint! That's weird.
