A bit of a WWYD - but I’ve made my choice.

I’m just interested to hear what you would do in this situation.

I work closely with a colleague. I was placing an order with a company. She wanted something from them too so I combined the orders to get free postage.
When it arrived they had sent my my item twice. I contacted them and they said keep it. My colleague said that she would like it.

She earns half what I do. She is 15 years younger and is at a different point in her life.
The item is only £10 which isn’t a lot of money to me.

Do you give her the item or charge her half?

Let her have it of course.

AdamNichol · 06/12/2018 15:19

Is this a reverse?

iMum · 06/12/2018 15:24

Reverse

daisypond · 06/12/2018 15:32

Give it to her, of course.

LegoAdventCalendar · 06/12/2018 15:34

Reverse. Don't be a dick. Give it to her.

Caprisunorange · 06/12/2018 15:36

Give it to her! Why would you even think of charging her

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 06/12/2018 15:38

This does rather scream reverse.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 06/12/2018 15:56

Either you want to keep it or you don't.

If you don't then give it to her.

You haven't paid for it so why are you trying to make money out of it.

Also why is it assumed it's yours to keep or give just because it's your account. You both made and order and neither of you paid delivery so the "free" item belongs to you both doesn't it?

MaisyPops · 06/12/2018 15:58

If you want it and will use it then keep it.
If you aren't bothered either way then the kind thing to do would be to give it to her for free.

The really awful thing to do would be to give it to her but charge her half as that's really cheeky.

RCohle · 06/12/2018 16:00

Did they send another of your item instead of hers? Are you therefore trying to charge her the difference between what she ordered and what she got?

That would still be pretty tight but otherwise YABVU.

VisitorsEntrance · 06/12/2018 18:13

I had already decided to give it to her, which is what I did, but another colleague was surprised and suggested that she would have asked her for £5 so effectively splitting the cost.

The thought of doing that hadn’t even crossed my mind but I wanted to check I wasn’t being odd.

Id give it to her without a second thought . As you indicated in your post combining the orders gave you free postage .
