5:30 am in the UK. Thin crescent of the moon and Venus brighter than I have ever seen it. Just stunning.

I thought it was a really bright star, but thats Venus? Cool !

LadyPasserine · 04/12/2018 05:36

I think so, it’s where it was this time of year when I studied astronomy long time ago. It’s ‘the star’

Mars was visible last night, very clearly a red hue.

OP - I agree with you.

Tony2 · 04/12/2018 05:45

Oh wow, read your comment just before chatting to brother defrosting his car, so looked up. Flaming Eck, Venus looks like plane landing light, it's massive. Many thanks!

bertdynamite · 04/12/2018 05:46

Beautiful - thanks for posting. DH not very grateful that I've woken him up to show him too.

Mokepon · 04/12/2018 05:47

Saw it yesterday, will get up soon.
Breathtaking!

notdancingbutplodding · 04/12/2018 05:50

Wow, that’s gorgeous. Thanks for that lovely treat of a sight.

idlenook · 04/12/2018 05:51

That's amazing - from where I'm looking, you can even see the shadowed part of the moon's disc.

Hope DS gets up in time to see it as he loves Venus!

GrumpyOldMare · 04/12/2018 06:09

Wow,they look beautiful.

But boy,it's chilly out there!

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 04/12/2018 06:09

I saw it about 20 minutes ago - looks amazing!

LadyPasserine · 04/12/2018 06:10

I think when you just have that shadowed part like this it’s a waning moon, and probably the last one this cycle.

Thanks for posting - I’ve just been looking at this and was about to google.

It is so beautiful.

Msbobblysocks · 04/12/2018 06:19

Thanks OP - I showed my 6 year old who has really got into astronomy recently and he is amazed. Beautiful to wake up to!

IncenseStick · 04/12/2018 06:20

I thought in London there'd be no way I'd see it, but there she is - shining right into my bedroom! I can also see the outline of the moon along with the bright crescent. Thank you for sharing OP!

mirren3 · 04/12/2018 06:33

On STV news last night the weather reporter explained it was Venus, our local paper had an article on Friday about the bright light in the sky last week, bet they feel daft now!!

mirren3 · 04/12/2018 06:34

In fact just had DDog out and his legs went 4 ways when his feet hit the patio, so be careful out there. ❄❄🌚

PottyPotterer · 04/12/2018 06:39

Cloudy here this morning but it was the first thing I saw when I opened the blinds yesterday morning, unbelievably bright.

AGHHHH · 04/12/2018 06:54

Wow that's really cool! I've never knowingly saw Venus before. Smile

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 04/12/2018 06:58

Oh wow, took the dog out and was wondering why that star was right bright.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 04/12/2018 06:58

Glorious, I've just been enjoying it all the way to the tube.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 04/12/2018 07:15

Just been out running and I noticed it too! Lovely.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 04/12/2018 07:18

Its beautiful isn't it, Ive just been stood with the door open drinking my morning brew.

Cakeandmarshmallows · 04/12/2018 07:18

Made being up with my 7 month old at 5 a bit better! Saw the moon shadow as well and initially thought it was my tired eyes seeing double! 😂

Igneococcus · 04/12/2018 07:18

I could see the Moon, Venus and Spica (in Virgo) all in a straight line when it was still dark enough. Can't see Spica now.
Mercury should rise soon but I have mountains in the way.
