5:30 am in the UK. Thin crescent of the moon and Venus brighter than I have ever seen it. Just stunning.

Brilliant Grin So glad you posted OP, what a lovely thing to look at first thing. unlike my frozen solid car

piglet81 · 04/12/2018 07:39

I was wondering what that very bright star was this morning so I'm very glad to have found this thread! Very beautiful.

EmpressJewel · 04/12/2018 07:57

I didn't realise that was Venus. I said to the children this morning that it was a plane and DS said maybe it's Mars.

Chocolatebourbons · 04/12/2018 08:01

It was utterly breathtaking at 7am when Ddog and I went into the back garden.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/12/2018 08:05

I wondered what it was this morning. Thanks OP.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 04/12/2018 08:08

A beautiful sight I wondered what it was too

Will it be there again tomorrow?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 04/12/2018 08:11

Wish I’d taken a photo!

LadyPasserine · 04/12/2018 08:16

Not sure if it will be there tomorrow, moon is in it’s phases. A sliver perhaps. But Venus first thing when so low had a greater magnitude this morning. As the earth moved and it appeared to rise in the sky it got gradually weaker.

People say to me that’s what the three kings saw. That doesn’t work though as they would have known about Venus.

I’ve hardly been able to take my eyes off it as I’ve walked the dog. It was still dark when we started the walk and it was so bright in the sky, it was breathtaking.

MadisonAvenue · 04/12/2018 08:19

Our weather forecast is awful for tomorrow so I think it’ll be too cloudy to see it here.

Igneococcus · 04/12/2018 08:48

Sky Map on the phone is great to check what you can see and Sky Chart III has a free demo version which is very useful to see what is going on.

CryptoFascist · 04/12/2018 08:52

Glad you posted this, I took the bins out at about 6am, glanced up and thought "Wow!"
I didn't know it was Venus, but the moon looked fantastic alongside the bright "star".

popcornwizard · 04/12/2018 08:56

Yep, first thing for me was just before 7. We're lucky to look out over fields and then to the sea (east coast). The start of sunrise and the sky this morning makes me wish that I had a decent camera - photographing the moon on a phone just doesn't work.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/12/2018 09:43

I saw that this morning.
Like pp I thought it was just a very bright star. I also noticed last night it was quite starry to what its usually like. I remember when I was little. You.could hardly put a pin head between them.
Good thread op

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/12/2018 10:11

Saw it this morning when I went out for my run, but wasn’t sure which planet it was

Wow...just look at the moon and Venus right now!
Roomba · 04/12/2018 10:16

It was the first thing DS2 and I saw when we got up earlier. It led to a great conversation about earth's shadow on the moon (could be seen really clearly from here) and then parallel universes. DS is a bit space mad!

dazzlingdeborahrose · 04/12/2018 23:06

Beautiful this morning. Wished I could have taken a better picture. It was stunning.
