What Christmas song do you really dislike?

Now the Xmas songs are out in full force, I’m reminded of the ones I totally hate.

Destiny’s Child “Doesn’t It Feel Like Christmas”; so smug and grabby. Shame they need thousands of $ spending on them to enjoy the festive periodHmm

Also, that pervy Love Actually version of Love is All Around, with Bill somebody or other sliming all over the Santa-esque ladies.

I judge anyone who hates Last Christmas

I'm playing #Whamaggedon.

Absolute Radio plays a game where you're 'in' until you hear 'Last Christmas'.

longwayoff · 03/12/2018 09:10

The Slade thing. Horrible.

longwayoff · 03/12/2018 09:12

And anything by Cliff.

Most of them really Grin

I went in Tesco yesterday and it was full on Santa hats and Xmas music already. Felt so sorry for the staff having to put up with up for another 3 weeks. Save it for Christmas week!

I'm aware this makes me sound like Scrooge.

Dandeliontea123 · 03/12/2018 09:54

Mistletoe and Wine. Dreary.

SmallDalek · 03/12/2018 10:24

Do we only get to choose one? That’s difficult:
Absolutely loathe Slade. But all the others already listed are as heinous. I’m with ProfessionallyUnoffended in absolutely hating Stop The Cavalry. Don’t know what it is about it that makes me feel murderous. I really feel for staff in retail in shops churning out this shite for weeks on end. No one should be subjected to that.

LostontheWestway · 03/12/2018 23:35

I'm playing whamaggedon too! Grin

LostontheWestway · 03/12/2018 23:37

Oops, forgot to reply to the op.

Spaceman came a travelling, winters tale, that one by The Darkness where he keeps going falsetto and Slade.

Bezalelle · 03/12/2018 23:43

They're all dreadful! Sung by embarrassing old gimmers and desperadoes.

kierenthecommunity · 03/12/2018 23:48

Another Paul McCartney vote, only for Pipes of Peace, as the video gives me the heebies. PMcC pretending to be young soldiers when he was in his mid forties and looked every second of it and then some.

I also can’t stand Rock and Roll Christmas but mainly because I used to LOVE it as a kid. But since discovering what a filthy pervert Gary Glitter is, it makes me feel queasy if I hear it (which is thankfully rarely these days)

BeachtheButler · 03/12/2018 23:59

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. The most depressing song I know.

GallicosCats · 04/12/2018 00:23

Honeyroar you've mixed up A Spaceman came Travelling (Chris de Burgh) with Greg Lake's I Believe in Father Christmas, which has the line you quoted.

I have a soft spot for a lot of this stuff but have to concede that the best bit of I Believe in Father Christmas was the bit they didn't write. Prokofiev puts them all in the shade. Grin

For me the worst Christmas song I remember (aside from some truly dire 'modern' advent carols from the 1970s, but of course contemporary church hymns/Mass settings are a special kind of ear torture) has to be a Cliff Richard one: The Lord's Prayer. What cloth-eared dimwit ever assured him that the Lord's Prayer and the tune to Auld Lang Syne would work together? It sounds like a chorister being deliberately disruptive in music practice.

Hohomerrykittymania · 04/12/2018 05:48

That back door Santa song that somebody was talking about on here the other day. I don't really like Santa baby either.

Honeyroar · 04/12/2018 05:53

Oh yes, you're right, I did mix them up, it was Greg Lake. And you're also right that Cliff's Lord Prayer is dreadful too!

GrumpyOldMare · 04/12/2018 06:07

It'd be easier to tell you one I DO like.
Hideous,all of them.

fieryginger · 04/12/2018 06:48

Mariah. That's all I need to say. It gives me the rage.

MistyMeena · 10/12/2018 21:05

Why are all the Christmas songs so old? Does no one write them anymore? I'm not sure I can tolerate Slade much longer.

BearSoFair · 10/12/2018 21:08

Beach Boys Little Saint Nick. Run run fucking reindeer Angry gives me the rage! And 'he don't miss no one' is just bad English.

LuluJakey1 · 10/12/2018 21:09

All of them.

Sparklingbrook · 10/12/2018 21:15

I find them all very depressing. Especially Fairytale of New York (there never has been an NYPD choir). Also Stop the Cavalry.

It is probably because in a previous job all the Christmas songs were played on a constnant loop for a month and I didn't really like the job very much.

I do however quite like 'Proper Chrimbo' and 'Last Christmas' other than that just no.

Benjaminbuttonschild · 10/12/2018 21:21

I don't like the Kate Bush song. December Will Be Magic or something. Only last year did I read the lyrics. Didn't have a clue what she was whining about when I was little.

GunpowderGelatine · 10/12/2018 23:44

Underneath the Tree by Kelly Clarkson. Unless you enjoy 4 minutes of some woman shouting

GunpowderGelatine · 10/12/2018 23:47

And Band Aid 2014 - loaf of mediocre singers trying to out-unique each other. Ellie Goulding's part makes me want to remove my eardrums

RaspberryRipple1963 · 13/12/2018 16:59

GunpowderGelatine Your post made me laugh! Apart from the 'typo' (I think!) of 'loaf of mediocre singers',the idea of wanting to remove your eardrums is hilarious!
