Oh Jesus... Just stopped a burglary

Please excuse any typos... I'm really shaking.

Heard a strange car drive down the back lane (houses are surrounded by fields and have a road back and front but only the front is lit). Stuck my head out of the window that faces onto the back and listen (we often get sat Nov failures) and heard them talking about where to break in and how easily the flat screen lift off the wall. Dialled 999 and kept watching. They headed to their car (assuming for tools) while I was still waiting to get through to 999.

So I found a police siren video on my tablet and played it at full blast. Well they ran so fast one fell over. Sadly didn't get a good look at the car, just a fleeting impression so not much help.

I'm feeling a bit shaky and at the same time proud of myself. Police took what details I had and we've just had a car driving round. I don't think I'll sleep tonight

Well done you!! Quick thinking!! Very impressed!!

Rattinghat · 02/12/2018 01:22

OMG that is so cool. Pour yourself a drink!

Bubbinsmakesthree · 02/12/2018 01:26

That is some impressive thinking! Well done - sweet tea or a stiff drink needed!

ggirl · 02/12/2018 01:28

Were they going to burgle your house?

Well done , I'd have been a nervous wreck and unable to download an app whilst that was going on..impressed!

gluteustothemaximus · 02/12/2018 01:30

That is super quick thinking. But yes, I can imagine you're shaking. Strong sweet tea for you Smile

BertramKibbler · 02/12/2018 01:32

That’s genius. Well done you!

QuestionableMouse · 02/12/2018 01:32

Two or three houses down. It was on YouTube. It was also amazingly effective.

Had a cup of tea and some chocolate. I've stopped shaking.

I'm so pleased I had the window open or I'd never have heard them. My car was broken into last year and dark nights make me nervous.

Also thank you. I'm great in a crisis... I just go to pot after!

You are so cool!

Cuzcothellama · 02/12/2018 01:37

Well done you! I'd never have thought of the video! Genius. Be proud of yourself.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 02/12/2018 01:41

I just go to pot after!
Sorry OP I misread that as "I just go to poo after" and I thought to myself "Well I can't f-cking blame her!"

Well done!!

VimFuego101 · 02/12/2018 01:43

Well done and hope you are OK. I would consider putting up some extremely visible security cameras for the future to deter burglars - you can get cheap motion activated ones that you can view via phone apps.

Perfectly1mperfect · 02/12/2018 01:44

Well done you! What a great idea about playing the siren sound.

Have a cup of tea or maybe something a bit stronger to calm down, I'd be shaking as well.

QuestionableMouse · 02/12/2018 01:48

Good idea about the security cameras. It's so dark behind the houses I'm not sure they'd pic anything up but I'll look into them.

No pooing after sorry to disappoint 😂

Not sure I'm cool but thank you. Hopefully someone else can use the idea and it'll help them.

Wow.

I am properly, SERIOUSLY impressed!

I will be nominating you for a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for "Quickest Thinker"!

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/12/2018 01:53

Security cameras coupled with a movement sensor light would work.

PositivelyPERF · 02/12/2018 01:55

What a brilliant idea. A house burglar alarm one would be good, if anyone thinks someone has broken into their house. I’m sure the police were impressed.

TheFoodtheFadandtheFugly · 02/12/2018 01:56

How come you were waiting to get through to 999?

QuestionableMouse · 02/12/2018 02:01

Because the police system was experiencing a high volume of calls. The actual 999 bit was fine.

My house has a big security light but they didn't trigger it. It comes on as soon as you step in the back gate.

How come you were waiting to get through to 999?

There's always one Hmm

SpamChaudFroid · 02/12/2018 02:15

That's awesome! Playing the siren was a stroke of genius.

TheFoodtheFadandtheFugly · 02/12/2018 02:19

It was just a question Pyon - whenever I have called to get through to 999 I have got through straight away. I did not know that you had to wait like that - now I do, as OP has explained. Genuine question - no bearing on you.

SoleBizzz · 02/12/2018 02:19

Oh thats terrifying. You have been so brave! Get CCTV? Have you reported this to Police? All is well now and in the future.. repeat this to yourself. It will calm you x

Bluerussian · 02/12/2018 02:54

I think you are amazing! You deserve an award. I don't have anything to give you but Flowers Wine.

Glad to have you as a friend, yes, BFF. :-)
