Eat fish smell like fish?

It only happens when I eat cod or haddock but I notice I smell a bit like fish the next day no matter how much I wash. I literally don't dare eat white fish during the week in case I smell at work - it's so embarrassing. It never happens if I eat tuna and I am allergic to shellfish so that's as adventurous as I get with seafood! Has anyone else ever had this happen? Cringe!

I'm having roasted salmon tomorrow, shall get my best friend to sniff meGrin

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 28/11/2018 22:27

I don't think salmon does it, Sneaks. But I'm happy to share that delicious-sounding meal to test the theory!

SneakyGremlins · 28/11/2018 22:29

Grin well I'm limited to what's in the freezer - how about fish fingers?

Not me, but my ancestors were mostly fishing people.

My wee does smell of sugar puffs after coffee though!

Jocasta2018 · 28/11/2018 22:33

I’m convinced I smell fishy after taking my fish oil EPA supplement so I don’t take it as often as I should...

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/11/2018 16:25

It would be such a shame if pps stopped eating fish and taking beneficial supplements because of it, surely? Fish is very good for you, as we're always being told. Lots of lovely foods can result in an after eating aroma, such as garlic and curry. So:

Keep eating healthy fishy
Even if it makes you wiffy Wink

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/11/2018 16:27

(We probably can't say the same about Sugar Puffs!)

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/11/2018 16:32

AfterSchoolWorry - are you a dolphin? Shock

Coffee just makes me go, no Eau D'Puffs detected!

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/11/2018 16:37

FFs definitely work here with DS, Sneaky. I don't think it's the chips and pees, (I thank you).

Urine that smells sweet like sugar puffs can indicate severe glucosuria from diabetes. If too much glucose is in the blood, large amounts can spill over into the urine, according to Cowart and Stachura in "Clinical Methods: The History, Physical, and Laboratory Examinations."

The kidneys play an important role in glucose homeostasis and process almost 180 grams of it per day, reabsorbing about 90 percent back into the bloodstream. Whatever is not reabsorbed is excreted into the urine in a process called glucosuria, explains Cowart and Stachura.

MrsWombat · 29/11/2018 16:39

I also have a very small child that smells of fish every time he's had fishfingers. Especially his wee! Didn't notice this with his older brother.

VictoriaBun · 29/11/2018 16:40

Discovering that your urine smells like fish can raise many concerns about personal hygiene and overall health. While urine does have a normally subtle odor of its own, it may take on other pungent odors from time to time. This is common in both males and females and is possibly due to underlying conditions.
Fishy smelling urine can be the result of several conditions affecting the urinary tract. This may be the result of infection, metabolic disease, or simply a side effect of a medication.

Why your urine smells like fish

VictoriaBun · 29/11/2018 16:41

Sorry didn't paste the rest !

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/11/2018 17:03

Here, it's only ever an issue after eating cod-type fish or Sugar Puffs, and so I am content that there are no underlying health conditions involved.

Goingovertosusanshouse · 29/11/2018 17:04

I get sugar puff wee but don’t eat sugar puffs!

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/11/2018 17:17

It might be worth a GP visit, Going?

UnfinishedSenten · 29/11/2018 17:23

I thought I was the only one! Shock
I've never mentioned it to anybody as it quite embarrassing.
DS also had 3 servings of fish curry at nursery yesterday, he filled his nappy and it absolutely reeked of fish.

minkies11 · 29/11/2018 18:11

No other wee problems - just fishy 24 hours after white fish and think in sweat too - urge!
BlackBeltInChildWrangling - no, I'm afraid DH does bugger all cooking apart from pasta bakes and BBQ in summer :( !

Laiste · 29/11/2018 18:48

Not with fish, but i get this but with onion !

If i eat something with onion in it (even a small amount) the next morning my hands and privates smell really oniony. Not my wee though.

ToeTouchingTitties · 29/11/2018 18:53

I’ve had it for years, but I don’t get the smell if I eat very fresh fish - to the point I can almost tell you how old the fish was by the strength of smell the day after!

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 29/11/2018 19:53

urge!
What do you get the urge to do, Minkies?!

And is it anything to do with your DH - typical! - not cooking?!

Anyway, tell him he now apparently needs to add onion and coffee to your experimental dish.

Perhaps we need to get Heston involved, if it's sciencey? Can you imagine Nigella on this one?! Shock

Wasywasydoodah · 29/11/2018 20:10

I get coffee wee. Never noticed fish but have literally just eaten fish and chips so will report back tomorrow.

SneakyGremlins · 29/11/2018 20:11

Nigella would be all over this.

We studied her in media and lots of the guys couldn't focus well. Grin

minkies11 · 29/11/2018 20:52

Effing autocorrelation lol that was supposed to be 'urgh' - OMG urge. Sorry!
Urge to stop fat finger typing haha.
