Whoever is buying all the unicorns....

Please stop!!

I’m absolutely completely sick of all ‘girl’ clothes and toys being unicorn themed. For instance I just thought I’d browse Monsoon’s Black Friday offer for little stocking fillers for my 4 year old and it’s just unicorn fucking central. Pink, glittery, unicorns. What are we doing to our girls!

If we stop buying unicorns they might perhaps become extinct

Unicorns are on the way out. Its sloths and alpacas next

festivellama · 23/11/2018 14:53

Unicorns are so last week.

MarklahMarklah · 23/11/2018 15:16

H&M had glittery, or possibly sequined dinosaur tops a while back. They've got a lot of options for kids at the moment, fancy and plain and it's cheaper than Monsoon.

They are a shop. They are market led. Lots of people want to buy pink unicorn things for their kids so the shops sell it.

WindyWednesday · 23/11/2018 15:33

Llamas next.

Gimmeesugar · 23/11/2018 15:54

@nonagrey there is absolutely nothing wrong with pink. It's one of my favourite colours

My objection is that when 90% of the girls accessories for a popular shop are that colour it starts to feel a little insidious

But that particular shop markets itself as sequin/lace/fills/silk central. So it’s not unexpected really.

I’ve just looked online at their accessories page. There is quite a bit of pink, but there are also blues, whites, greens, navy, gold, camel, silver and reds.

And yes, unicorns are the animal of the season but there are also butterflies, puppies, mice, penguins, koalas, cats, flamingos, bunnies and fairies.

You’d be as reasonable to complain about the amount of sequins used as the amount of pink tbh OP. Do the sequins feel insidious?

Buy her the butterfly poncho in navy - it’s gorgeous.

The blue sequined bag would look lovely with it. A 4yos my DD would have swapped her grandmother for that combination. Grin

I'm 29 years old and I'm still buying the unicorn stuff...for me!

WhyAmISoCold · 23/11/2018 17:07

My DD loves pink, sparkly unicorns so I'll carry on buying it. Not one thing she wears has any of this on it.

1tisILeClerc · 23/11/2018 17:15

DD did 'sloth' a few years back. The all black 'Goth' or equivalent stage is a bit boring. I hear they turn out quite well adjusted eventually.

gamerwidow · 23/11/2018 17:19

It is currently impossible to buy things for DD in the girls section. She is going through a hates pink and girly phase and gets irritated by lace or sequins of glitter because it makes her itchy. Her last lot of clothes came from the boys section instead where it’s minecraft and sharks and camo track pants.

FitzChivalryFarseer · 23/11/2018 17:26

Actually, I think most of it is being bought by my late 40s friend for herself. She has no kids but is forever posting photos of her latest unicorn themed purchase.

PunkAssMoFo · 23/11/2018 18:08

There’s no more unicorn stuff in Monsoon than there is in most other shops. It is a phase that needs to die down a little though...

I've noticed the abundance of unicorn themed stuff too. I buy my 2 year old stuff from the boys section all the time.

Sailinghappy · 23/11/2018 18:14

My girls love unicorns!!

WeeMadArthur · 23/11/2018 18:19

Don’t worry OP, I think that Llamas are beginning to take over, although they will still be pink and glittery.

froufroufoxes · 23/11/2018 18:20

Jinx @WeeMadArthur
I just popped in to say who decided Llamas were a thing now?!

WeeMadArthur · 23/11/2018 18:30

Well exactly @froufroufoxes , some people say the shops sell this stuff because it’s what the customer wants, but how do the shoppers know that they like it before it starts turning up en masse in ALL the shops at the same time? We buy what they decide to sell us.

BertieBotts · 23/11/2018 18:36

Unicorns are out, Llamas are definitely in.

BertieBotts · 23/11/2018 18:37

And foxes.

KindergartenKop · 23/11/2018 20:25

I want boy's clothes with unicorns on.

SoyDora · 23/11/2018 20:40

Unicorns are out, Llamas are definitely in

DD1 got a gift from a school friend for her birthday with a ‘llamacorn’ on!

FermatsTheorem · 23/11/2018 20:41

Different-animal-corns are a thing (I discovered from DS).

Also llamas are in because of Fortnite.
