How tall is your 6-7 year old

One of my daughters is 6 - (7 in 2 months )
And she’s very short compared to others her age . She is now 107cms

I took her to the gp a year ago but he basically told me not to worry .
I am thinking about going back because you get children have no caught up and overtaken her and she’s still tiny !

I was wondering if anyone else had a child this size or what kind of size other children her age are.

Would I be over reacting to go back again and ask for them to measure her again?

That does sound short....

My nephew is 13 months old and is 82cms

I think you should go back to your gp, even for some reassurance

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/11/2018 21:19

How tall are you and her dad? My ds is 6.5 and and taller than some of the 8yr old's in after school, but his dad is 6ft6!

MissRainbowBrite · 22/11/2018 21:19

DD will be 7 in February and is 120cm, she seems to be at the taller end of her class group but there is a massive difference between the tallest and shortest in her year.

My just turned 4 year old is around 105cms my 7 year old is about 120cms.
Doesn't mean much though, I'm 5ft 10 so my daughters were unlikely to be short.

6timesthemess · 22/11/2018 21:21

Mother- I am 5 foot 3 and my husband is 6 foot Smile

According to the growth chart she is just under the 2nd centile. I would go back to dr if you are worried.

BackToBeingMe · 22/11/2018 21:22

Dd6 is 115cm will be 7 in December, ds who is 9, 10 in February is 120cm so very small. Been seen at the hospital for past 4 years and every test comes back normal. He is just a short and very slim boy think he is on the 2nd percentile line.

BackToBeingMe · 22/11/2018 21:23

I am 5ft 3 kids dad is 6ft

spreadingchestnuttree · 22/11/2018 21:24

DD is 6 and 110cm. I'm pretty sure her older sister was smaller at the same age. So I'd say it does sound small but not unusually so. How tall are you and your DH?

spreadingchestnuttree · 22/11/2018 21:25

Sorry cross post. What about grandparents or other siblings?

AvoidingDM · 22/11/2018 21:30

Where is she in your red book?

Girls charts are different from boys in height fairly early on I think.

My DS is about a year older 117cm and 9th centile.

6timesthemess · 22/11/2018 21:31

She has 5 siblings who are I would say average height - I know my 3 year old is 104 cms so quickly catching up. My own mother was around 5 foot 3 and my dad is 5 foot 10 ish?

sosmooth · 22/11/2018 21:32

mine is the same age and is 120 however his dad is over 6ft 7 and I'm 5ft6.

AvoidingDM · 22/11/2018 21:35

2nd centile is still normal, I'd say she is just short or due a growth spurt.

What sort of heights is Dads family?
My mum is barely 5ft but both her brothers are over 6ft+ and real mix of heights in the generations before.

tomhazard · 22/11/2018 21:35

My DD was 6 last week and is 121cm but she is tall compared to her classmates. But She's always been tall. There is a wide range of heights in her class and a couple who are very tiny , probably about your dds height. I would take her to the gp if you're worried but they do come in all sorts of sizes!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/11/2018 21:40

Interesting about the different height charts for girls and boys even that early. Dd is about average height in her class, ds is top 3.

RaisinforBeing · 22/11/2018 21:45

There are quite a number of things that can cause shortness, it is not just in your genetic code, and there is treatment available depending on the cause of shortness. You should be concerned if she has fallen from percentiles or is quite a way from her expected parental height on a growth curve. This info is in your red book. My daughter is 2nd percentile age 8 and takes growth hormones as she has a genetic error that causes short stature. Without the meds she is expected to be 20cm less than expected parental height but with meds we expect her to gain 15cm of that back. It is worth seeing a gp and getting her measured regularly. If they share concern you will be referred to a endocrinologist. It is not worth a wait and see approach as the longer you take meds the more height you gain. Girls normally stop growing 2 years after their first period, boys get much longer !

RaisinforBeing · 22/11/2018 21:49

I just wanted to add that the Dr aswell as measuring height should measure growth velocity, that is the speed at which she is growing. My daughters growth slowed considerably between 5 and 7. Between 2 appointments 2 months she hasn’t grown a mm!

whereareyousleep · 22/11/2018 22:11

My Ds who was 5 in July was measured about a month ago and was 109cm

Pebblesandfriends · 22/11/2018 22:16

Dd 7 is 124cm but tallest in her class.

Ariclock · 22/11/2018 22:19

My four year old is 106cm and seems fairly average for their age.

WindyWednesday · 22/11/2018 22:20

DD 7 is 138cm.

JumpersForGoalposts · 22/11/2018 22:22
