I'm not the only one who HATES the Boots Xmas ad, am I?

Because it drives me insane!

It doesn't make any sense, for one! So the daughter she keeps stealing her mum's perfume, wears make up at what? 17?! And her mum marches her back off upstairs to take it off and she does it Hmm and gets a slight eye roll? Ha! Then she sees her mum singing, wearing a bit of lipgloss and suddenly she's her hero!! So she decides to buy her another lipgloss for Christmas?!

However, the 'story' isn't the most irritating thing about this advert. It's the god awful music! .....

"If there's somebody spoilin ma fun. She's me mum". Arghhhhh!!!! Angry

Just watched it. Song VERY annoying!!

AutumnCrow · 20/11/2018 11:52

I didn't understand the story, partly because I didn't know what the present was at the end. And partly because I didn't realise it was the same mother and daughter all the way through. Oh and I didn't get the perfume scene either. I'm an advertiser's nightmare Grin

Twatforahat · 20/11/2018 11:54

It made me uncomfortable. The mum’s reaction to her wearing make up was pretty OTT and then the sickly sweet way she looked at her mum when she was singing; what a load of tosh.

formerbabe · 20/11/2018 11:56

It's nauseating.

pretzelflipzaretheanswer · 20/11/2018 12:01

Exactly, twat. Why was she suddenly so mesmerised by her mum? Because she was wearing pink lip gloss?!

former, yes. That sums it up very well. I could have just said that.

GreenTeacup · 20/11/2018 12:05

I agree, I understand the sentiment behind it but they got it so wrong on this occasion.

And on that note it has just come on Grin

Urbanbeetler · 20/11/2018 12:06

Agree completely. A baffling ad.

pretzelflipzaretheanswer · 20/11/2018 12:07

Green, Grin

Elfinablender · 20/11/2018 12:10

Wasn't her mum wearing her lipgloss, the same one she made her take off? So she bought her one of her own? Idk. Confused

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 20/11/2018 12:12

I said to DH ‘so this is an advert for parental hypocrisy?’ since the plot seems to be the Mum not allowing her daughter to wear lipstick, but then wearing loads herself? I simply don’t get it.

FiresideTreats · 20/11/2018 12:13

It's absolutely horrendous. The song makes me cringe inside-out.

formerbabe · 20/11/2018 12:13

Surely the more realistic reaction would have been the daughter upon seeing her mum wearing the lipgloss having a teenage strop of why is it ok for you to wear it and not me?!

Fairylea · 20/11/2018 12:14

Can’t stand it! As the mum of a teen that’s supposed to be about the same as as the girl in it it makes NO SENSE at all.

Confused
beefchowmein · 20/11/2018 12:15

I agree, annoying music and confusing. Making her wipe off (perfectly nice) makeup before leaving the house when she’s clearly late teens is a bit odd. I mean is that really a thing for most families? Then the rest of the ad revolves around her mum wearing lipgloss?? Very strange.

dogzdinner · 20/11/2018 12:15

Wouldn't it have made more sense if the mum had seen the daughter singing in a choir, thought 'ooh she's so grown up and sensible' and then given HER a lip gloss for Xmas?

pretzelflipzaretheanswer · 20/11/2018 12:18

dogz, yes, it would. But unless the music was different too, I'd still find it infuriating.

OP posts:
LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/11/2018 12:18

Completely missed the lip gloss part and thought she was just proud of her mum for singing.. Woops

RightOnTheEdge · 20/11/2018 12:22

Omg! I can't bear the song it's horrendous.
The story is rubbish as well Confused

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 20/11/2018 12:25

Nope. You are not the only one.

GreenTeacup · 20/11/2018 12:31

I thought it was playing on how the teen respects her mum. She starts by trying to do her hair and can’t get it right and then she has her take off her lipstick which is so outdated - daughter basically saying you don’t understand and so boring cause your just old Mum stuck in a past decade.

Then sees her Mum in a gorgeous lipstick and suddenly Mum isn’t so out of date after all, realises she also likes the latest lippy and they connect under the Christmas tree.

pretzelflipzaretheanswer · 20/11/2018 12:33

Green, really?.. Confused

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 20/11/2018 12:36

Yeah, it's a bit muddled isn't it? I don't quite get the moral of the story.

I don't like the 'me mum' thing either, even though that's something I hear every day. It's jarring because it's unnatural and forced in a song.

Rachelover40 · 20/11/2018 12:36

I think it's a lovely advert. It illustrates how mothers and daughters often disagree but in the end, love eachother. The girl sees her mum as a strong person in her own right when she watches her singing in the choir. Brings tears to my eyes actually.

pretzelflipzaretheanswer · 20/11/2018 12:39

Shatner, completely forced! I hate that style of music, for that reason.

I think she also sings "stunning and strong", but it sounds like "stonning and strong". It makes me clench my fists and grind my teeth.

OP posts:
Knittedfairies · 20/11/2018 12:40

I don’t understand it, although it would be marginally less annoying without the ‘me mum’ bit. Only marginally though.
