Have you ever gone off a celebrity because of something they've done?

I used to really like Ewan McGregor until he had an affair.

Same with Robson Green in the 90s.

I loved Michael Moriarty (still do) but he's become a huge loony and an old soak.

Liked Ant McPartlin before the drink driving and infidelity.

Have you ever liked a celeb and then gone off them because of something they've said or done? Does it just prove that celebs are human like the rest of us?

Me and DH hate cliff richard now. Mainly because all that money the BBC had to pay him came from our pockets! We pay the TV license for programmes. Not to line the pockets of a multi millionaire who had already been exonerated by the police!

Clawdy · 20/11/2018 22:48

BBC's fault, not Cliff's. Angry

Moononthehill28 · 20/11/2018 22:54

Didn’t Cliff give the money to charity though?

Moononthehill28 · 20/11/2018 22:56

Sandi Toksvig horrible how? I’m curious. I have always detested the woman but am interested to know what she did!
Also, details on Prince Andrew please?

nicebitofquiche · 20/11/2018 23:02

I've gone off loads of actors and comedians due to them wittering on about politics. Shut up. Go and do your job. I'm not interested in what you think even if I agree with you. Stop thinking being in the public eye makes your opinions worthy of being heard.

You've never heard of insurance then?

I think all the scientologists are scared of that weirdo David Miscavige. I think he's got stuff on them from the "auditing" process they do that they don't want to come out and so they can't escape the cult.

Sarahandduck18 · 21/11/2018 00:09

John Leslie

Would have expected a mention of him.

Koalablue · 21/11/2018 04:54

I could go on and on and on.

Ugh just read about Anthony Hopkins, what a douchebag!

Mustangwally · 21/11/2018 07:14

Cricketmum84 I must take issue with you on this.

  1. Cliff Richard has publicly said that he just wanted to sue the people at the top not the whole of the BBC but was told this wasn't possible. He states that he made a settlement offer that they turned down. He clearly wasn't after taxpayers money, there was just no other way to do it. I personally don't pay my licence fee for false gossip so I feel the BBC have conned me, not Cliff.
  1. The BBC only paid a percentage of the compensation, I think it was about 65%. The police paid the rest.
  1. Cliff was utterly traumatised by what happened, you can tell this in his interviews. It doesn't matter if you're rich, it is truly awful to turn on the tv and watch your home being raided by police when you haven't been charged with anything. It was a serious breech of privacy.

Publicly funded organisations like the BBC and NHS should still be accountable for their actions and the public have a right to challenge them if they step out of line.

longwayoff · 21/11/2018 07:46

Completely agree mustang. Fear of financial consequences is the only bulwark against huge institutions and helps keep them in line. Look at the way cover ups have been constructed for so many over the year and how much unnecessary suffering caused. Keep suing, people, until they clean up their acts.

Sheitgeist · 21/11/2018 08:57

If the Cliff Richard compensation thing helped in any way to stop British news agencies turning into those American ghoulish style ones that respect no one's privacy or decency, not even victims', then it will have been a good thing.
Can't believe the BBC did this.

Sheitgeist · 21/11/2018 09:04

Furthermore, the judge ruled that even if no footage had been shown, "the very naming of Sir Cliff would have been unlawful"

He had not been arrested or charged with anything, so should not have been named.

Mustangwally · 21/11/2018 10:03

And they had the audacity to put the story forward for the 'scoop of the year' prize at the Royal Television Society journalism awards. Shock

Binglebong · 21/11/2018 10:06

A book some of you might enjoy is Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult. Not her best but a large part of it is a famous person who doesn't quite match up to their public image...

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/11/2018 10:12

Sean Connery after reading comments he made in the 60's about how he would "slap a woman if she was being a bitch" Angry

beachcomber243 · 21/11/2018 10:18

Cliff Richard. For the same reasons as lilySalvatore.
Some know, some don't.

uglyandlovingit · 21/11/2018 11:09

I'm quite surprised that Cliff could be charged with anything as he is no longer a British citizen. He is a permanent citizen of Barbados these days. He has revoked his U.K. Citizenship. Why he did this is a mystery to me.

Binglebong · 21/11/2018 11:27

You don't have to be a citizen of a country to be charged. I think you may be mixed up with extradition to get them back in to the country the crime was committed in.

DunkandEggAgain · 21/11/2018 12:02

Mathew Broderick.
killed two women in Northern Ireland due to careless driving. He was in the wrong lane. victims were a mother and daughter, the mother being a physically disabled woman who relied on her daughter for trips out, which was what had happened when he drove into them.
He was sentenced to up to 5 years but he managed to only be required to pay a measly $175. He APPARENTLY could not not remember the event, why he was on the wrong side of the lane, could not remember getting up in the morning...the victims family called it a travesty of justice but were prepared to forgive Broderick amidst Broderick intending to meet with them. Broderick pulled out of this meeting.
Awful individual. He's with SJP who is also reported to not be nice at all. Well suited to each other.

Ive always hated Mark Wahlberg. he seemed like he could very well be a nasty piece of work off camera, although i couldn't put my finger on it. Looked up his wiki page a couple of years ago and read what he did. Disgusting creep.

Momasita · 21/11/2018 12:32

The Boyle man. Utterly despicable. Can't belive he is still on TV after his awful jokes at the expense of people who can't fight back Angry

dustarr73 · 21/11/2018 12:40

Cliff Richard love him or loathe him,he didnt do anything wrong. He was right to sue the BBC.

And somebody went off Olly cause he eye rolled at someone. That has to be the most stupid reason ever.

ladydickisathingapparently · 21/11/2018 13:20

The media has to be held to account for how it treated Cliff Richard, irrespective of his personal wealth and status. In the same way the News of the World was held to account for hacking the voicemails of not only celebrities like Hugh Grant and Steve Coogan, but also people who had already suffered terribly from press attention and had no desire for celebrity/fame, like the parents of Milly Dowler.

LaDaronne · 21/11/2018 13:27

I'm quite surprised that Cliff could be charged with anything as he is no longer a British citizen.

Being able to get away with crime by virtue of not being a citizen would be quite the legal loophole...
