I’ve just birthed a fossilised tampon...what do I do?!

Hello.
I’m so embarrassed about this. Have had loads of weird discharge for the past few days and was getting really worried- suddenly this happened. I feel quite well and everything but could I now have an infection or something? It must have been in there for two weeks.

Do I just presume I will now be fine or should I seek official advice (seriously hoping I don’t have to).

Excuse me while I now go and 🤢

I have hypersensitive smell though, even the male smell you discuss would make me gag. No pun intended...

Stephisaur · 18/11/2018 16:53

@Wannabeyorkshirelass the same thing happened to me! No idea how.

OP, I’m sure you’ll be ok but do see your GP or call nhs direct if you feel at all unwell.

I thought that was bean stew?

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 18/11/2018 16:55

SteakandKidney forgive me, I think I may have misunderstood. I thought you were talking about internal rinsing; if you meant just water for the outside areas is not enough for you, then actually I agree as I use soap/body wash there, too. Blush

But internal cleaning is a no no!

AChefIsTrappedInMyCellar · 18/11/2018 16:56

Only one bean though. So not much of a stew.

Caprisunorange · 18/11/2018 16:58

Another who has doubled up and found the extra one a week later poooey! You don’t need a doctor OP unless things change obviously.

DistanceCall · 18/11/2018 16:59

Wash with plenty of water. Then wait and see. Pretty disgusting, but it doesn't mean necessarily that you have an infection.

ravenmum · 18/11/2018 17:00

I wonder if some people simply don't push them as far up as others and/or have shorter vaginas? I no longer need the things either, but I could only ever have felt one in there if it was not pushed in properly, and I could easily have poked a finger up and not felt it (just the string), so going to the toilet or washing would not by any means have alerted me to a forgotten tampon.

Water wouldn't hurt your vagina, but soap defnitely would. Soap is alkaline and the vagina is naturally acidic, to ward off infection.

"Like your gut and skin, your vagina has its own cluster of bacteria to help protect it. ...If the pH increases and becomes less acidic, the vagina can be prone to infections, including bacterial vaginosis or thrush."

Absolute boak. That is pretty disgusting tbh. How could you not..know?!

maddiemookins16mum · 18/11/2018 17:02

I had American friends who were obsessed with cleaning ‘inside’ 😕

@MedicinalGin, please listen, you need to go to the hospital, you could have TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome). This can kill you, don't be under any illusion, I was wired up for four days with this. Once again, please listen.
@ShirleyPhallus, thank you for your honest post, women speaking out, empowers others. You are not disgusting, in the slightest.⭐️💐

Shirleyphallus · 18/11/2018 17:05

Happened to me years ago and I was so ashamed. I knew something was wrong because of the smell and ugh. I had a feel around with my fingers and could feel something. Mine didn't birth, I had to get it out myself. Even more deep shame; my mother had to help me.

Your MOTHER came to help you?! Omg!!!

Watto1 · 18/11/2018 17:07

I did the same as a teenager. Pulled one tampon out, discovered a second string, pulled a second one out. I was horrified but suffered no ill effects.

I was more traumatised last year when I left my mooncup in for several days. I searched the house for it and was convinced I had left it on the side of MIL's bathroom sink Shock. DH had to phone her to ask if she had discovered it . I was too mortifiedBlush. It was another two days before I noticed the horrible smell and the penny dropped as to where I had left my mooncup.

ChantillyLaceAverageFace · 18/11/2018 17:08

How do you wash the inside of your fanny??

QueenoftheNights · 18/11/2018 17:09

Sugarpiehoneyeye

Surely if someone has toxic shock they know about it as they feel terrible? You can hardly rock up at A&E with no symptoms and expect them to find TSS if you are 100% well.

Fleabag123 · 18/11/2018 17:10

No one is saying Toxic shock syndrome isn’t serious but it doesn’t happen to everyone with a retained tampon. As has been said if the OP feels well in herself she doesn’t need to seek medical attention

QueenoftheNights · 18/11/2018 17:10

How do you wash the inside of your fanny??

There are various suggestions here such as loo brush.

Someone else said she used her fingers to 'clear the discharge'. (As if it was something revolting and that would be the end of it.)

dinosaurglitterrepublic · 18/11/2018 17:10

You will probably find that things return to normal now the offending article has been removed.

ChantillyLaceAverageFace · 18/11/2018 17:12

Queen

🤣🤣🤣

Polkapjs · 18/11/2018 17:12

There’s a nice festive Zoflora out currently. That and a boot buddy- simples
But OP you are not disgusting. Do call GP though x

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 18/11/2018 17:16

I’ve had this too, it was removed by my GP, the tampon was upside down, I now check everyone and in the 9 years since this happened I have found one other in the wrong way round in the tube.Tampax weren’t interested when I told them.

ChantillyLaceAverageFace · 18/11/2018 17:16

I'd like to think my foof smells fine without sticking some chemical based, floral smelling liquid up it.

SoyDora · 18/11/2018 17:16

Water is natural and fine imo. Just rinsing outside isn't clean at all imo

Again, the NHS disagrees with you.
