I’ve just birthed a fossilised tampon...what do I do?!

Hello.
I’m so embarrassed about this. Have had loads of weird discharge for the past few days and was getting really worried- suddenly this happened. I feel quite well and everything but could I now have an infection or something? It must have been in there for two weeks.

Do I just presume I will now be fine or should I seek official advice (seriously hoping I don’t have to).

Excuse me while I now go and 🤢

I'm fascinated as to how women on here are washing inside themsleves....how far up? With what exactly? Do you squeeze a sponge up in there?

Frazzledstar1 · 19/11/2018 17:40

I don’t have time to read all responses, but I just wanted to say if you haven’t already I would strongly advise going to doctor! You may fell well in yourself but could still have an infection.

And I say this as someone who has done this twice believe it or not 😱

Mol5 · 19/11/2018 17:51

This thread is hilarious!
I think the majority of us, or know of our friends, who have forgotten there's one already in there and put a second one in only to discover an extra wayward string later on!

Those that are anti-foof washers.. genuinely.. Femfresh and other "intimate hygiene" products are literally solely for washing inside and outside your nether region.

I sincerely hope for your OH that you give it a little spruce up down there once in a while instead of "natural cleaning" aka sweaty discharge minge.

The the vagina does not sweat, so there is no "sweaty discharge".

The vulva sweats, so washing that is fine.

CaliHummers · 19/11/2018 18:03

Tbh anyone who thinks I should be sluicing my vagina with femfresh isn't someone I want to be having sex with.

The products create a need - a need doesn't create the product.

Conseulabananahammock · 19/11/2018 18:05

solleyfromsurrey surely a feather duster would work better. Or maybe one of those long poles window cleaners use with the sponge on the end 😂

louderthan1 · 19/11/2018 18:06

I've been there. I had to go to A&E three days before Christmas to get it hoiked out. One of the more distressing experiences of recent years. The triage nurse who was not a native English speaker wrote down 'tampon stucked' on the form.

To this day, amongst my friends who know the story, a tampon is known as 'a stucked'. 'Have you got a stucked handy at all?'

And the NHS is clear that these products can cause more problems than they solve.
Those who think their vagina sweats.... do you think your ear canal sweats? Your nostrils? Your oesophagus?
I wash my vulva.

AperolSprizting · 19/11/2018 18:15

@Vladimirs I imagine it happens when people are in a rush and pop a new one in without taking the other out, I’ve nearly done it several times and remembered just in time.

OP just keep an eye on early infection signs, so any one one or a combo of feeling lethargic, nauseated, too hot or too cold when you shouldn’t or a resting temp above 38. But I’d defs go to GP if discharge continues anyway cos you could have given yourself BV.

"Those that are anti-foof washers.. genuinely.. Femfresh and other "intimate hygiene" products are literally solely for washing inside and outside your nether region. "

The level of lack of knowledge is astounding. These products are created to make profit, by playing on the insecurities of women usually caused by a deeply misogynistic society. There is no need to wash the inside of your vagina at all. The outside of your body, your vulva, yes of course wash it. No need for special "intimate hygiene" products though.

sheena4514 · 19/11/2018 18:18

There is definitely something wrong with me, I swear after my daughter's birth they stitched me up too well, I can't even get one in, never mind two! I can't even have sex and need to use pads. I don't mind either of these things! I mean this is sounding like a humblebrag but trust me it isn't!

b4dmum · 19/11/2018 18:20

Serious question about washing the vagina/vulva/whatever- Is it normal to hold the flaps open and aim the shower head there? That's what I've always done. Then a little scrub around the outside. Then another rinse.

CaliHummers · 19/11/2018 18:24

And we're back to "Lets play wanking or washing routine".

vincettenoir · 19/11/2018 18:28

This is very common and nothing to worry about. I recommend trying to get a telephone appointment with your practice nurse just to put your mind at ease.

It might be worth exploring whether they think you need antibiotics, especially if you planning children.

Today I listened to an podcast about the microbiom of the reproductive tract (I’m clearly not living my best life) and it suggested infection in the vagina can have an impact on future fertility although the research on the different factors that affect it, is just emerging. I would in no way suggest that this is a make or break event for your future fertility. But just keep an eye out to check that things return to normal so you can seek treatment if they don’t.

Clearly you've never been to the same spin classes I go to. I swear to God one instructor makes me sweat from my ear holes and eyeballs, and probably my vag too (it's difficult to tell with padded cycle shorts on!)

That said, I'm definitely a non-inside-washer. Just a quick juzz around the outside (after having washed ones face of course) and for the love of Christ, not with the Original Source minty one Blush

Conseulabananahammock · 19/11/2018 18:41

anotheroriginalusername accidentally got that green devils showergel down there once. The burn...unholy!

TheWiseWomansFear · 19/11/2018 18:48

@b4dmum I don't think that's normal no... it would dry out the opening surely?

I just give the whole thing a wipe around with a flannel - I don't use soap or gel as I'm allergic

GabsAlot · 19/11/2018 18:48

sit in the bath with no bubbles or anyting else put in nice and clean after

AnotherOriginalUsername · 19/11/2018 18:49

Conseulabananahammock I use it in the morning, it's a great wake up (either that or the lime* one!) but if I'm awake enough to be in the shower, I'm awake enough that I don't need to be douching with liquid fire!

This has just reminded me of the early days of mine and my husband's relationship when we were uni students. We had a very un romatic shower à deux and he used my mint shower gel. He obviously knew he was on a promise as he washed everywhere and squealed like such a girl, his housemates came running thinking he was dying Blush

*I've made sure that I've packed lime over mint in my hospital bag for my postnatal stay!!

lostinjapan · 19/11/2018 18:53

They’re not intended for internal use and they’re not marketed that way either. I’ve just looked up ‘Femfresh Daily Intimate Wash’ on Superdrug and it clearly states: ‘For external use only’.

Conseulabananahammock · 19/11/2018 18:54

Hahaha brilliant. I didnt warn my oh (because im a bit sinister and wanted him to share the pain of the showergel) told him it smelt lovely.
He swore quite a lot after he hopped out of the shower 😂

nannykatherine · 19/11/2018 18:56

vladimir’s poutine are you a man ?

margesimpson40 · 19/11/2018 18:57

Once, nearly lost a tampon ... Eh rather ott session with partner ... End of cycle ... Will only admit on here ... And yes inside is self cleaning , soap kills good bacteria and you wind up with Thrush or vaginitis whatever the fuck that is and has anyone noticed the yanks pronunciation of clitoris what the fuck is a cli- taurus. Just asking.

Alonglongnight · 19/11/2018 19:05

I once removed my tampon and 2 came out. I was mortified and couldn’t remember when the second one must have been from. I worried myself sick for a day or so but I felt fine and was fine. If you feel ok I wouldn’t worry. Just keep an eye on any symptoms that might arise but if nothing I don’t think you need medical attention.

Frazzledstar1 · 19/11/2018 19:05

These feminine hygiene products can actually cause or exacerbate thrush. I have a particularly sensitive downstairs area, and was once advised by doctor that water should be enough.
