Is it wrong that I eat a full snickers duo every day?

I walk 8 or 9 miles most days (due to the fact I can't drive) which equates to me averaging over 20,000 steps a day on my Fitbit. That's whilst pushing a 2 year old in a pushchair so I must be burning quite a lot of calories.

I eat a healthy breakfast, lunch & dinner but every day I eat a snickers duo (I feel quite embarrassed saying that because they're pretty big). I crave the nuts & sugar I think.

Does that sound really unhealthy?

I'm within the healthy weight range for my height.

Enjoy your Snickers.

Chathamhouserules · 14/11/2018 10:04

Yum. I want one now. If you're a healthy weight and do lots of walking no probs.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 14/11/2018 10:06

Does your fitbit not tell you how many calories you burn? won't bother buying one

I've nothing against a sweet treat every day but I wouldn't go for a snickers duo every day. Variety is the spice of life!

I've just eaten a big aero, the size you're supposed to share.I'm not over weight and I refuse to feel guilty, it cost about a quid and I fancied a treat after the school run so I ate it with my coffee. I'd imagine even though its big that and a normal instant coffee with semi skimmed is less calorific than going to a coffee shop - same goes for your chocolate treat.

It doesn't work on my wrist when I push the pushchair so I have it in my pocket then instead. It does say calories burned but I don't think it would be all that accurate for me since I'm not wearing it on my wrist (so it's also not reading my heart rate). I also read that people think their Fitbit over estimates calories burned but I'm not sure if that's true.

I think you well and truly earn your snickers duo with that amount of daily exercise.

cartwheeel · 14/11/2018 11:03

Not feeling so guilty now. Thanks all Grin will enjoy me guilt free snickers that bit more now!

Yes it is bad and the fact you are craving the sugar is a bad sign. Its not about calories or weight but about your body's ability to process sugar. Maybe limit it to once every few days?

AndMyHeartKeepsMissingABeat · 14/11/2018 12:30

You are having about 40% of your daily saturated fat allowance in one snack. Having more fatty food will take you over the limit. Health isn’t always measured just by your weight - you have to think about the effect on your cardiovascular system as well.

ComtesseDeSpair · 14/11/2018 13:08

Well, it’s not great. It’s just sugar and oil, really. Health is about more than balancing calories in and out. But if you enjoy it, totally up to you.

halfwitpicker · 14/11/2018 13:08

Is that a packet with two snickers in?

halfwitpicker · 14/11/2018 13:09

Seriously if you're not overweight crack on my love

Suzyloo · 14/11/2018 13:20

If it helps, I have a single Snickers from the snack machine most days at the office, and I only do about 5,000 steps a day (but I'm also not overweight). The single ones are 48g and the ones in the Duo pack are 41.7g each. If your other meals are healthy, I would say enjoy!

roisinagusniamh · 14/11/2018 13:32

Hmmm.....I treat myself to chocolate in some shape or form every single day of my life and double it on birthdays and Christmas.

Seniorschoolmum · 14/11/2018 13:35

Are you putting on weight? If not, your body is using the calories as fuel.

If you are, just decide if you are ok about that or not.

It has absolutely nothing to do with anyone except you.

PinkHeart5914 · 14/11/2018 13:37

Unless your overweight, I don’t see the problem with it tbh. Eat the snickers....

MysweetAudrina · 14/11/2018 13:49

I was with a guy once and there were a bag of fun size snickers on the table. He told me he wanted to eat snickers from my knickers.

MistressDeeCee · 14/11/2018 13:52

Eat the Snickers & don't worry about it. I'm in my 50s still teach dance twice weekly & I've had chocolate at least 3 times a week for years. I will not give up Aero or a slice of real chocolate cake for anybody or anything 😁.

I do eat healthily at other times tho, but I'm not puritanical about it. Life's too short to be a food bore or spend time listening to the type that speak as if eating healthily all the while is going to mean they won't die of 'nothing' one day.

If I'm lucky enough that the lights go out at 80 and not before, that'll do me

chequeplease · 14/11/2018 13:56

Eat your snickers and be merry!
desperately starts hunting through the kitchen cupboards for a snickers of her own

hiddeneverythin · 14/11/2018 13:58

Good for you!

Racecardriver · 14/11/2018 13:59

Probably terrible for your teeth but I doubt yourre over consuming calories.

PARunnerGirl · 14/11/2018 14:04

If you’re only concerned with your weight, then look at your weight or assess how you feel and that’s your answer!

If you are thinking about health, it’s not great because the calories are “empty”, in that they are not providing you with much nutrition. Just quick energy from sugar and fat. If your diet is good and you are getting enough nutrients from your food then cravings such as sugar and fat cravings do disappear. I lost around 40lbs a few years ago and had massive cravings until I sorted my diet out! I can’t remember the last time I ate a bar of chocolate like that, and that’s not because I’m a miserable cow! I honestly just don’t ever feel like it. I usually feel satisfied and full until close to when I know I am next eating.

However, everything in moderation! If you like a snickers bar then I say have one now and then Smile Life is for enjoying.

Babybearsporij · 14/11/2018 15:41

Crack on with the Snickers. You're not harming anyone.

considering running to the shop to buy Snickers

3in4years · 14/11/2018 17:03

I eat twice as much chocolate as that every day. Chocolate has always been my downfall. I know it's bad but it is hard to stop because

  • I fluctuate between slightly underweight and a healthy weight
  • I enjoy it
  • I feel there are worse vices. In a way the guilt is good. If I stopped I'd probably have to drink or smoke to have a vice!
  • I do eat lots of fruit and veg too, and hardly any other junk food
In your case it sounds like part of a balanced life. My grandfather used to say 'everything in moderation, including moderation'!
BitchQueen90 · 14/11/2018 17:14

I eat a chocolate bar and a packet of crisps every day. I am average weight for my height and do plenty of walking as I don't have a car - the walk to work is 40 minutes each way. I don't feel guilty. Grin

Enjoy it!
