Is this the best every theme song to a tv show?

My contenders are:

Are you being served (as above)
Theme from Twin Peaks
Theme from Grange Hill

The X-Files!

LuxuryWoman2018 · 11/11/2018 11:53

Fools and horses, brilliant theme song

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 11/11/2018 12:05

Are you being served? Is still flipping brilliant and the theme tune is perfect, the use of the sound of cash registers is innovative. I’ve heard many music critics say how brilliant the use of the sound of coins and cash tills in Pink Floyd’s Money is the work of musical genius. But Money was released in 1973. Are you being served? was out a year earlier in 1972 Wink

susiella · 11/11/2018 12:07

Going up!

Slightlyjaded · 11/11/2018 12:29

@Judashascomeintosomemoney Yes! I never thought about the timing of PF - Money vs Are you Being Served (funnily enough) but you are right, innovative! The Mark Ronson of it's time :)

@Luxurywoman2018. I knew John Sullivan who created and wrote OFAH (and the opening song) and it was his voice singing the theme tune. #trufact

@Slightlyjaded. I never knew that voice, I thought it was Nicholas Lyndhurst, it’s a great song, very catchy 😊

Slightlyjaded · 11/11/2018 15:28

The Sweeney was pretty good too.

Little Britain assured us that Dennis Waterman wrote the 'theeme toone' and sang the 'theeme toone' for Minder. Possible factoid.
I liked Always There for Howard's Way (1980s boat building) and The New Adventures Of Black Beauty (1970s), oh, and White Horses (1970s)

sproutsandparsnips · 11/11/2018 15:50

Poirot
Victoria

PabloTescobar · 11/11/2018 15:56

I don't know if it's the BEST but the theme tune from Moonlighting takes me right back.

EmbraRocks · 11/11/2018 15:59

Quantum Leap!

Magicstar1 · 11/11/2018 16:01

We watch Are You Being Served every evening...it’s so funny, but would never be made these days.
Personally my favourite theme tune is from the 70s - The Incredible Hulk Grin

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2018 16:02

Black Beauty of course.

Controversial- I think that the success of Big Brother owed so much to the excitement of the tune. Love it.
Personal favourite- Jeeves and Wooster . Anne Dudley is a genius. My favourite song ever is by Propaganda.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 11/11/2018 16:14

Black Beauty - Sunday afternoons, so sad though.
My fave is probably Whatever happened to the likely lads which takes me to Monday nights.
Nobody can ever remember this, but Sparkling might (waves) Midnight is a Place. Kids programme, loved the music.
Dennis Waterman is face-palm famous for singing the invariably plinkyplonky "awright guv" theme for everything he acts in.

Mormont · 11/11/2018 16:18

Robinson Crusoe
Black Beauty
Van Der Valk

Heuschrecke · 11/11/2018 16:22

Are You Being Served was a great theme.

But, oh blimey, so many, where to start?! So in random order :

The World At War , such an amazing theme.

Catweazle

What Happened To The Likely Lads

Auf Wiedersehen Pet

What About Brian

ProfessionallyUnoffended · 11/11/2018 16:23

Mormont, you beat me to it! I came on to say Robinson Crusoe!

Heuschrecke · 11/11/2018 16:31

Bonanza

Skippy (the bush kangaroo)

Howards' Way

Slightlyjaded · 11/11/2018 16:51

Another iconic Sunday afternoon theme-tune.

Book I don't remember. I have Googled but no recollection. Sad

maggienolia · 11/11/2018 16:56

Quantum leap was a classic.
Can I add the theme to Rentaghost?

EnormousDormouse · 11/11/2018 16:59

Taxi
Cagney and Lacey
Ski Sunday!
