Modern trends that annoy you

Following on from the modern dining trends that annoy you what general modern stuff annoys you?

Mine are:

People taking selfies in toilets

Being asked for my email address at a till

Wasteful plastic tat in the shops

OP posts:

People who train. No, you're going to the gym.
Modern eyebrows and make up. Badly applied highlighting drives me potty, I want to walk up to them and blend.

Abra1de · 10/11/2018 18:58

I love this thread.

PaperHalo · 10/11/2018 19:01

Snapchat filters - YOU DONT LOOK LIKE THAT!!! And the moron friends that comment - you look beautiful hun

TheWiseWomansFear · 10/11/2018 19:02

Jeans without front pockets - way to highlight my hip dips and make it difficult to carry things

Teenage girls Pouting when they don't know how/ can't do it properly so they're puckering their mouth and look idiotic

People having a go at people on Twitter, including companies... most of the time it's just your average intern behind the screen worrying about fucking up

People complaining about millennials as a homogenous group

@Chwaraeteg how else would you eat cake but with a fork?

IcedPurple · 10/11/2018 19:08

Celebrities writing books about childcare!!!!

I'd go further and say celebrities writing and offering opinions on anything other than their area of expertise, eg, pretending to be someone else, kicking a ball, looking good in designer clothes etc.

Why do we think that just because someone happens to be good (or in some cases not so good!) at one particular thing, somehow their opinions on politics or relationships or the environment are more clever and interesting than those of the girl working behind the till at Aldi?

IcedPurple · 10/11/2018 19:10

People who go on and on about how busy they are. I don’t care!

Same here!

Though I don't neccessarily think it's a new thing - I remember Julie Burchill slagging off the busy bores years ago.

I reckon in the minds of many, busy=important. Except it doesn't. A lot of the time, it just means you're poor at time management and prioritisation.

FrightsaidRed · 10/11/2018 19:13

Loving your beard so much it's like your fucking pet

^ absolutely brilliant! GrinGrin

Selfies.

The fakery of social media.

Whole families wearing matching pyjamas on Christmas Eve then posting the photo to Facebook / instagram.

Phrases like ‘let’s connect’ normally used by the aforementioned twunts who treat their beards like pets and wear overly pointy stupid shoes.

Brigante9 · 10/11/2018 19:17

Facebook posts "Happy 6th birthday to my gorgeous boy, love you to the moon and back, blah blah". The child isn't going to see this, it's blatantly to remind everyone that it's little Oscar's birthday cos the kid sure don't care!

Blogs talking about yourself. No-one cares, shut the fuck up, you egotistical idiot!

FrightsaidRed · 10/11/2018 19:20

Oh and snapchat animal filters. Why the hell do people put animal filters on to look like cats or rabbits? Why???!!

IcedPurple · 10/11/2018 19:25

Nobody simply 'has a baby' these days. They 'welcome' one.

And don't get me started on "We're pregnant!" No you plural are not pregnant. Only one of you is.

MiddlingMum · 10/11/2018 19:35

Actually, I'm such a middle aged grump I agree with most of this thread. The bits I don't actually agree with are things I know nothing about like Instagram and Snapchat. They sound very vacuous though.

Athena51 · 10/11/2018 19:37

Bloody Snapchat filters especially when used by grown ups, they freak me out.

People who use so many filters on selfies that they are barely recognisable. When people say 'oh hun, you look lovely' I can barely restrain myself from saying that they don't actually look like that Grin

Polkasq · 10/11/2018 19:44

Agree with so many of these! The eyebrows, the creepy Christmas elf, social media virtue signalling, the identikit "I'm original" beard/pug look, etc.

"Can I get X" instead of "I would like X please"

Bus drivers who don't reply when you say thank you as you get off the bus

Dog poo bags hanging on trees

Driverless cars (yikes!)

Seasonal virtue signalling. People who year-round buy themselves non-essential stuff, accessories, consumables, take-away hot drinks, extra shoes, magazines, flights, etc. but at Christmas make a show of no cards/gifts for other people because they're so "wasteful". Shouldn't it be the other way round?

Tribalism on all sides, with people in social media bubbles with a uniform accepted view

Romantic scenes on TV with nothing left to the imagination.

OhFlipMama · 10/11/2018 19:45

Dog poo bags full stop. Why put something that's organic into a plastic bag that won't decompose? I don't get it. Bags for this purpose should be compostable.

PussGirl · 10/11/2018 19:47

The vastness of everything - plates, cups, glasses, buckets of coffee.

IcedPurple · 10/11/2018 19:47

"Can I get X" instead of "I would like X please"

Bloody Americanisms! I have an irrational hatred for them!

I inwardly cringe when I hear someone non-American talk about their 'vacations'. Surely you mean your holidays?

IcedPurple · 10/11/2018 19:55

Another thing: Every restaurant is 'tapas' these days. Err, no. "Tapas" are a specifically Spanish form of eating, and not usually a main evening meal. I recently went to a 'tapas style' Indian restaurant and found that 'tapas' was code for tiny servings. I had to raid the fridge when I went home!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 10/11/2018 20:02

OhFlip You have to pick up dog poo in something, I think most dog poo bags are biodegradable these days.

megletthesecond · 10/11/2018 20:02

People who use the weird airbrushed "beauty face" filter for family pics. It makes them look like plastic shop dummies.

ChocolateTearDrops · 10/11/2018 20:10

@Chwaraeteg

A cake or dessert fork is hardly a modern trend. Hmm

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 10/11/2018 20:20

Loving salted caramel comment.😁

TheEndofIt · 10/11/2018 20:29

Light boxes. Usually with naff messages.

Slug eyebrows.

The "me, me, me" world of social media. I don't give a stuff what you've eaten for dinner.

Cake smashes. And gender reveals.

Gimmeesugar · 10/11/2018 20:30

I was going to say Salted Caramel but can see someone has beaten me to it. It’s really ruining a lot of food experiences for me!

itsbritneybiatches · 10/11/2018 20:30

People who stand so close to me in the shop they push their trolley so close it touches my arse.

Tutlefru · 10/11/2018 20:35

The grey trend.

Grey wallpaper, grey paint, grey carpet, grey curtains you name it it’s grey! Insta homes are a wash of just bleak grey spaces.

Where’s the colour at?!
